The way she laughed when I asked if it was OK to take a couple of candids of the paper temple made me think maybe she didn't realize others had used that term to describe her habit of spreading stories out in piles on the floor and across her desk.
So, i have this crush on Rachel Maddow......

It's interesting how perpetrators of harm so often feel sorry for themselves, and portray themselves as victims.
At least Tony Hayward realized he'd made a PR error when, full of self-pity, he told reporters "I'd like my life back", oblivious to the death and destruction of people, wildlife, habitats, economy and so much more.
Rand Paul, the Tea Party darling, never recognized or apologized for defending BP and Massey Energy by claming "Sometimes accidents happen". It was more important to him to distract attention from his own remarks against civil rights by blaming President Obama for being "un-American" in criticizing BP.
Sarah Palin, another Tea Party darling, recently tried to distract attention from her ignorance and deception about energy by blaming environmental activists for dangerous off-shore drilling.
This is not the first oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico - it's similar to the 1979 IXTOC spill more than 30 years ago, which was caused by not by the actions of environmentalists (as Rush Limbaugh has claimed), but by another corporation which not only failed to take adequate precautions against death and disaster, but did not have an adequate plan, much less the capability, to handle the spill when it happened.

Rachel Maddow: "I am 37 years old and this happened when I was six. . . The stuff that didn't work back then is the same stuff that hasn't worked now; same busted blowout preventer, same ineffective booms, same underwater plumes, same toxic dispersant, same failed containment domes, same junk shot, same top kill. It's all the same technology. The Ixtoc well, which couldn't be plugged for nine months, was in 200 feet of water. Now, in 2010, we're using the same techniques to try to plug a well that is leaking in 5,000 feet of water."
The Ixtoc well ultimately spewed some 3.5 million barrels of crude into the Gulf, according to official estimates. It was the second worst spill in history and the worst ecological disaster to ever affect the US mainland.
"The oil wells keep talking about how technologically advanced they are," Maddow said. "But, what they've gotten technologically advanced at is drilling deeper. They haven't gotten any more technologically advanced on how to deal with the risks attached to that. They haven't made any technological advances in the last 30 years when it comes to stopping a leak like this when it happens."

The spill has brought verbal attacks on BP from everyone up to Barack Obama, who said yesterday during his third trip to the gulf region: "What I don't want to hear is, when they're spending that kind of money on their shareholders and spending that kind of money on TV advertising, that they're nickeling and diming fishermen or small businesses here in the gulf who are having a hard time."

Months ago when TRMS was covering the story of North Korean satellite imagery i spent a while upstairs in the graphics department helping produce zoom-ins on Google Maps and the guy I was working with had one of these stuck on his bag.
When I asked where he got it he said he made it himself and handed me one.
The "Maddow" is from the Metallica/Maddow "justice for all" album cover parody I did. He must have done the B/W image himself.

Headshot of Rachel Maddow. A radio host on the liberal station, Air America Radio. Openly gay and a Rhodes scholar, her cheeky and articulate delivery is making her a rising star for the APF left.

"You know what? If it helps Obama get the economy going again, he can wear a Batman costume for all I care, Viking helmet, togas - I don‘t care. Wear what you want. Be comfortable, man."

My mom, my sister Deana and I went to a town hall forum tonight in Seattle which featured Air America hosts Rachel Maddow, Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, Sam Seder, Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes (ugh) with moderator Ron Reagan Jr. Very engaging, funny at times, frustrating at times, but certainly entertaining and worthwhile. We had a great night! We just had to get a shot with Rachel Maddow, who fills in for Keith Olbermann on Countdown from time to time. She's brilliant!! The others were great, too but I tend to have a hard time with Rhodes...she really dominated the conversation for much of the event (she hushed a bit towards the end), and tends to enjoy saying rude, inflammatory and unnecessary things. But anyway...fun night!

(The story here is that Jon has a cold and didn't want to give his germs to Rachel. At first they just waved at each other but then they worked out this solution.)
