Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

Our troopers wanted to remind you to be careful while at work. Take your time and do it right, don't cut corners as this is when accidents tend to happen.

Our troopers also wanted to let you know that it's okay if you remove your boss' landspeeder's transmission...as long as it is by mistake. You should also have someone help you reinstall it!

Enjoy today's shot!

While the flights of the RSS Pale Blue Dot and the RSS Mote of Dust provided successful proof of concept that hyperspace travel was possible, their ventures within the Solar system never truly achieved what the final goal was: faster-than-light travel. That honor was reserved for the RSS Hedy Lamarr that embarked on a 4-and-a-half-Month-40-light-years-round trip to the Trappist-1 System (solarsystem.nasa.gov/news/335/10-things-all-about-trappis...) in 2361, gathering a plethora of valuable data during a close flyby.

Behind the scenes:

It did take me forever to build that follow-up on the RSS Pale Blue Dot (flic.kr/s/aHskHoPuG3) and the RSS Mote of Dust (flic.kr/s/aHskUJZMn8). There were a number of attempts and iterations, most were never photographed, some were photographed but remained unpublished.

Seen inside the shed at Wishaw, Loram liveried 08632 continues to receive attention. Having been onsite since mid-2021, the loco has seen the removal of the unreliable and ill-fated 'Remote Control' equipment that was installed by EWS.

08632 is one of my favourite shunters, having been on site at Allerton TMD during May 2003 when I was there on work experience. I was fortunate enough to assist on it's D exam at the time. Having kept up with the loco over the years, it has been just about everywhere!

During the final few years of it's EWS career, it had a bit of a famous assignment being deployed to Harendale Quarry for use on trip workings to Harrisons sidings. This involved a short period of mainline running. It was replaced quick quickly by 09020 due to the slightly higher speed of the 09. Sadly this experiment came to nothing with Network Rail not fully sold on the idea of having a 27mph shunter on the West Coast Mainline. Following being stepped down, it had a lengthy spell at Wolverhampton Steel works. It also served at locations such as Bescot, Cardiff Tidal, Daventry, Hoo Jn and Mountsorrel. It's final EWS/DB assignment came at Mossend after being released from a DB red repaint in 2014 at Bescot. Offered for sale in the Autumn of 2016, the loco was snapped up by RSS.

In RSS ownership it has served at Glasgow works, Llanelli, Leeds Neville Hill, Eastleigh, Bescot and Derby Loram.

As I study the different skin hues of the young Black women depicted in this photograph, I'm reminded of a poem by Langston Hughes named Harlem Sweeties. It goes something like this:

Have you dug the spill

Of Sugar Hill?

Cast your gims

On this sepia thrill:

Brown sugar lassie,

Caramel treat,

Honey-gold baby

Sweet enough to eat.

Peach-skinned girlie,

Coffee and cream,

Chocolate darling

Out of a dream.

Walnut tinted

Or cocoa brown,

Pomegranate-lipped

Pride of the town.

Rich cream-colored

To plum-tinted black,

Feminine sweetness

In Harlem no lack.

Glow of the quince

To blush of the rose.

Persimmon bronze

To cinnamon toes.

Blackberry cordial,

Virginia Dare wine

All those sweet colors

Flavor Harlem of mine!

Walnut or cocoa,

Let me repeat:

Caramel, brown sugar,

A chocolate treat.

Molasses taffy,

Coffee and cream,

Licorice, clove, cinnamon

To a honey-brown dream.

Ginger, wine-gold,

Persimmon, blackberry,

All through the spectrum

Harlem girls vary

So if you want to know beauty

Rainbow-sweet thrill,

Stroll down luscious,

Delicious, fine Sugar Hill.

Catirumbava - Orthogonys chloricterus (Vieillot, 1819) - Olive-green Tanager

People came to Jesus. My, how they came to Him. They touched Him as He walked down the street; they followed Him around the sea; they invited Him into their homes and placed their children at His feet. Why? Because He refused to be a statue in a cathedral or a priest in an elevated pulpit. He chose instead to be—Jesus.

There’s not a hint of one person who was afraid to draw near Him. There were those who mocked Him. Those who were envious of Him. There were those who misunderstood Him. There was not one person who was reluctant to approach Him for fear of being rejected. Remember that.

Remember that the next time you find yourself amazed at your own failures. Or the next time acidic accusations burn holes in your soul. Remember. It’s man who creates the distance. It’s Jesus who builds the bridge!

Stone Chariot Wheels for the Gods in India at Bhoginandishwara Temple in Nandi Hills, Karnataka, India

Nandi Hills is a famous landmark for the urban populace of Bangalore. Everyone goes there, at least, once.

Not too far from the base of the hill is an old Hindu temple called Bhoginandishwara which is frequented by the locals and lots of devotees from Andhra Pradesh.

The pot holed road leads to a gateway to the temple complex. Stone wheels with decorative painted embellishments are placed on one side and that is a beautiful sight to see. Full mark for design sense.

It had just rained a few minutes before and the temple walkways were wet with water and thankfully not too many devotees were there bar a dog and a solitary person who stood with his hands behind him wondering whether the weather would be fine.

Today, I wonder whether "secularism is a disease" as postulated by the Hindu Right wing leader of RSS and shook my head in utter disbelief.

At the time still with with it's French modifications visible, RSS owned 08939 sits at their Wishaw base for attention. This is one of two Class 08 Shunters sent to France in 2009 to work for Euro Cargo Rail, which initally was also branded 'EWS International' (can be just seen on cabside) before ultimately becoming a part of DB Cargo France.

The idea first coming about in 2006 with both 08939 and 08738 identified for multiple working installation. Repainting in to the grey Euro Cargo Rail livery came in late 2006 for both locomotives before some testing in the yards of Toton of the multiple working equipment. Things then appeared to stall somewhat with both engines remaining at Toton until 2009. During this time both were used when needed on regular shunt and pilot duties.

April 2009 and both were collected by road transport for a trip to France. Once in France the pair were sent to work in the Rouen area and were used in the Vallourec & Mannesmann Tubes complex. Considering the investment in terms of the installation of the multiple working equipment, transport costs and training for the ground staff in France, their stay was rather short with both loco's back in the UK (and storage) by January 2011.

Offered for sale by DB in 2015, both 'Euro Gronks' stayed together being purchased by Railway Support Services (RSS). Prior to returning to service in the UK, the rather large black cage that was applied in France to the nose end of each locomotive has thankfully been removed. 08939 retains the livery albeit it with EWSI branding removed and patched up in places with dark grey paint.

Since reinstatement 08939 has served at Leeds Neville Hill, Eastleigh and Felixstowe on hire contracts. It is currently based at the DB Cargo depot at Wigan Springs Branch where it performs pilot duties.

After last weeks posting of an older photo of 08939, it was a pleasant surprise to find the other 'Euro Gronk' 08738 sat at Wishaw for attention last weekend.

Having been returned from France at the same time as 08939, both had a substantial period in store at Toton before being sold for reuse. The pair were kept together and both purchased by RSS. Since reactivation the loco has 'yoyo'd' between Eastleigh and Felixstowe before returning to Wishaw for attention.

Of note, the multiple working socket installed for use in France can be seen on each end underneath the radiator grille and in between the marker lights.
