The upper Belverde palace in Vienna, Austria.
This once palace is now an art museum containing art from all over Austria.
I just love the royal purple on the Costa's Hummingbirds. A shot from back in June when it was cool enough in the morning to actually enjoy outdoor time.
Found the Queen waving from the back seat of a car yesterday and she made my day. The car pulled up beside me and my husband in the parking lot of Burger King .HA! I have never seen anything like this and I just had to share. Hope it brings a smile to your face like it did mine.

When I arrived home.....my bearded iris' were still blooming.....so I've been playing with them the last couple days......always trying to get something a little different than the year before...........and yes....this one is cropped for effectiveness.....liked the squared effect for framing.

Grizzly 399 is the most famous brown bear mother in the world, with her own Facebook and Twitter accounts. She is followed by as many as 40 wildlife photographers, and millions of tourists come to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem to see her and the other grizzly bears. I was delighted to finally observe at least one bear in the wild.

There is a lot of pre-colonial royalty left in Africa. This is a miniature brass figurine of the Asantehene, King of the Ashanti (in what is now Ghana). These pre-colonial political structures have survived remarkably well and work in tandem, not in conflict, with the modern democratic processes. I bought this sculpture in 1971 in Accra and do not know anything about its age etc. But you can see the King sitting on his throne, under his parasol and accompanied by one of his councillors. In the 19th century, the Ashanti were involved for many decades in a ferocious war for independence, that is, against British colonialism. To finance this war of independence, they traded in gold and in slaves. The proceeds from this were needed in order to buy weapons (rifles and ammunition). The latter were delivered not by the Brits but, among others, buy a company from the Hanseatic Free City of Bremen. This company was also the main financier of the Bremen Mission to West Africa. This mission started itself by buying slave children on the African slave markets. There you have the complicated and very much international history of West Africa in the 19th century!

Macro Monday theme: Royal
Really wanted to avoid the obvious things for this one. My husband has some old medals with crowns that his grandfather had and tried those but wasn't happy with the results. This is my wedding tiara (obviously nothing like what the royals would wear!) with a royal blue background. I haven't worn it since my wedding, but I have a matching necklace and earrings that I have worn since.
