THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW played Lancaster, Pennsylvania in October 1977.
The Lancaster Independent Press (LIP) was one of the leading alternative papers of the 1960s and '70s. Aside from political coverage their film reviews by Charles Leayman and Ross Care were picked up by journals across the country. The paper was founded and originally edited by Lamar Hoover.
Appropriately for RHPS the Lancaster Press was also known as LIP.
When, finding the title offensive to Lancaster sensibilities, the mainstream Lancaster newspapers refused to print the ad for the film CARNAL KNOWLEDGE LIP was the only paper in the area to publish the ad.
