Rocker girl. Makeup and photos by Amanda Richards

Here's one of the first edits from our rocker chick concept shoot last night. Hair/Makeup by the talented April Pink Beauty.

This shoot was a real collaboration. Sarah, April and I worked throughout the week prior on a theme, makeup, styling and shared inspiration images (this one for example). We wanted to incorporate records (these are all Sarah's - she's into the Boss just a tad) into a few shots and this was one of the favorite ideas.

I shot this one standing on a chair above Sarah and originally her head was at the bottom of the frame (in portrait orientation) but I find looking at a portrait where the person is upside down to be a bit hard to enjoy/judge. So I rotated it 90 degrees (my wife preferred this look as well).

The lighting for this was a bit different. Shooting someone on the ground presents some challenges. Sarah was laid next to the wall which had a white paper background on it. So I used one YN560 flash in a 36" umbrella to bounce off the wall for some fill - that was just above Sarah. Next to that there was another YN560 speedlight shooting into a reflected umbrella adding more direct fill to her and the records. And then I had my SB910 in my 26" rapidbox, next to me (below Sarah as she is now) pointed more directly at Sarah. All fired by Cactus v5s. Just trying to wash the scene in nice even light and still be flattering - hopefully I was successful.

Comments and thoughts welcome as always.

WIP. It does not pivot quite as loosely as I'd like, but I'm happy enough with the scale and proportions. This should end up as a "sit-on" Mars Curiosity tribute rover thing for FebRovery.

Might try and work a differential bar into this too.

Fun shoot with an old friend

I got Christmas put away while watching the disgrace upon the Capitol. The unrest and violence expressed makes me very anxious. It made me feel good and safe to bring my old rocker, the one I rocked all my babies in, back in after removing the Christmas tree. I hope everyone found something peaceful today.

Yep, graduation photos for our kids has arrived, and first up is Jade Elaina Morris :o)

Have a seat and rest and relax on the porch for a spell.

Not sure if she’ll be my lead singer.

Just need the girl with the closet and the three little kiddies.

Still think I might need another drummer to reroot.
