NS local P87 snakes from the S-line to the yard lead at Biltmore with extra tonnage from Greenlee for Asheville. Biltmore was a fairly significant junction for the Southern Railway in decades past as this was the point where the S-line to Salisbury, NC joined in with the W-line from Spartanburg, SC.

Right beside the Humber Bay Arch Bridge is an area where the City of Toronto has provided colourful Muskoka Chairs for your viewing pleasure.

The most popular outdoor spa in Iceland is the Blue Lagoon, which is actually man-made. It uses mineral-rich water from the nearby geothermal power plants where superheated water from far underground is used to run turbines that generate electricity. The milky blue shade colour comes from the water's high silica content and the temperature is just right around 38oC (100oF).

With the rear of their train clear of Parkers in Gardner, 287 with CBFX 6030 leading accelerates through Otter River, passing Seamans Paper on the right. The tired looking SD60Ms is one Burlington Northern's first order of the units, built with the three cab windows versus the later teardrop style as shown on the trailing CN SD75I.

The urban music school in Fellbach is a striking building near the Schwabenlandhalle seen in the background to the right. The school is a member of the Landesverband der Musikschulen Baden-Württemberg and the Association of German Music Schools.

One of the interesting little things I found during my trek through Nebraska were the stone or concrete right-of-way markers that follow the edge of the state roads. Here one of them sits a couple dozen yards off Nebraska Route 2, up against a barbed-wire fence where private property begins. Cutting through in the distance is the BNSF Sand Hills Subdivision, and a repainted SD70MAC leading another load of coal east.

One of several islands on this stretch of the River Tees offering the best vantage points to view and photograph Low Force waterfall. Unfortunately the river level prevented access this time although it did give me another opportunity. This is a double pano of 12 images (2x6) at 16mm hand held.

There is nothing like walking to get the feel of a country. A fine landscape is like a piece of music; it must be taken at the right tempo. Even a bicycle goes too fast."

Right place and time...the Cape May/Lewes Ferry passing by these weathered pilings!

Right before sunrise, a BNSF intermodal curves along the Needles Sub as it approaches Siberia. I climbed this hill with a somewhat different shot in mind, and as I walked past this composition the thought came into my head that if a train showed up before the sun rose, this shot was probably the best I could do. I couldn't see any trains coming out of Amboy, so unless one was hiding at Bagdad which I couldn't see, there were no trains out there. I continued up the hill, but 30 seconds later I was shocked to see a train appear, coming out of Bagdad. I returned to the prior composition and bagged the shot. It wasn't until I got home that I realized I'd taken one of my all time favorite photos.

This photo feels somewhat transformational to me and my approach to photography. It was a result of a completely spontaneous overnight train trip. In recent years, I could always talk myself out of going trackside. Rather than my normal square peg in a round hole approach to photography I was flexible and honest with myself, choosing this shot (which I had previously not known existed) over other shots I've dreamed to for this area that honestly just don't work. But this one does. The most transformational thing may be that I'm finally feeling a little motivation and excitement about photographing trains locally again. If this photograph is an omen of things to come, 2025 could have a lot of great shots in it

Left or right, which way to go

Along the paths, as the light does flow

Down through the trees, green and high

As you follow the rays, up in the sky

Tempting you left, tempting you right

Searching for love found in the night

That is found at the end of the day

Along the path that leads the way

Right before the H1 duo left the yard yesterday morning, this also left. And, because the railroad is going to railroad, both of them got parked in the forest of Saltillo until that evening. Thankfully, this guy got on the move in shooting light. The H1's? Not so much. We win some and we lose some, don't we Sam?

Jenny Holzer: Light Line, Guggenheim NYC

This exhibition presented a reimagination of Jenny Holzer’s landmark 1989 installation at the Guggenheim. Climbing all six ramps of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed rotunda to the building’s apex, the site-specific installation transformed the building with a display of scrolling texts, featuring selections from her iconic series, such as “Truisms” and “Inflammatory Essays”.
