Common toad (bufo bufo), European toad, toad
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_toad
The common toad, European toad, or in Anglophone parts of Europe, simply the toad (Bufo bufo, from Latin bufo "toad"), is a frog found throughout most of Europe (with the exception of Ireland, Iceland, and some Mediterranean islands), in the western part of North Asia, and in a small portion of Northwest Africa. It is one of a group of closely related animals that are descended from a common ancestral line of toads and which form a species complex. The toad is an inconspicuous animal as it usually lies hidden during the day. It becomes active at dusk and spends the night hunting for the invertebrates on which it feeds. It moves with a slow, ungainly walk or short jumps, and has greyish-brown skin covered with wart-like lumps.
Another image of the Great Sand Dune National Park, taken soon after I crossed the Surge Flow.
Due to the detour (road closure) that delayed us by 3 hours, the sun was about to go below the dunes when we got there.
No epic golden colors here, just light and plenty of shadows; nevertheless, I'm happy with the few images that I got, and they are far better than the ones I took from the first visit in Sep 2019 - the early afternoon sun was flat and boring! 😉
The northeast region is having a heatwave, it's hot and humid ; oh "joy" of a hotter planet!
Have a fun-filled day, my dear Flickr friends!

Warm-colored thrush, with bright reddish-brown tones above, buffy breast, and white belly. Spots are indistinct and washed out, concentrating on upper breast. Beautiful song is cascading spiral of flute-like notes. Found in a variety of wooded habitats, often favoring wetter areas. Winters in South and Central America; very rare in the U.S. after October, unlike Hermit Thrush. (eBird)

The trail was cool and dim, and the Veery thought he was alone, but we were there and got the photo to prove it. Another of the elusive thrushes caught on camera. I love their call and have missed seeing or hearing over the past couple of years. It seems that they have moved from the trail near me to this one which is usually so mosquite-infested that I avoid it.

Two Australian pelicans on a very early morning flight towards the sunrise, keeping very low to the water. It is always amazing to watch them glide along effortlessly just inches off the surface.

Not just a traditional settlement but as an architectural monument is mentioned the depicted Ganadio, one stone villages of Konitsa's Municipality at 870 meters altitude on the slopes of Smolikas.

The most aggressive kingfisher in our region and pretty much seen everywhere. Its an opportunistic bird that hunts many things - birds like Indian White-Eye, smaller chicks, Lizards, Skinks, little crabs, frogs and fish too.
The birds have lots of patience and they are often seen perched rather than flying. They find a spot and wait, wait, wait till they find some prey to catch. It could be some frog, insect in the fields, or a fish / tadpole, frog in a pond nearby.
On this day, I found this one waiting on the side of a road next to a small stream that is around 2 feet below the road. It sat there for a long time and dived 2-3 times for a catch and yet when it came back to this perch, there was nothing in its beak. As I changed my angle, I sighted another Kingfisher below and think there maybe a nest. Both the birds were not leaving the area and the birds tend to nest on muddy walls.
Thanks in advance for your views, faves and feedback - much appreciated.

The landscape seems to breathe here. It's windy, and unseasonably warm for this time of year in Southern Colorado, no snow.
That's Greenhorn Mountain in the BG. I'm heading west along an old mountain road. I'm around 5 miles from the East Spanish Peak mountain, just below the snow line. I've driven by so many Elk, Deer, and Yak, the Yak are tagged so there must be a farmer that lets them graze freely. Talk about stress free... It's an interesting mix of landscape elements up here, thousands of acres of plains and farmland bordered by a Pine Forest. Then the baron snow line and mostly rock to the Summit @ just under 13,000 ft.

A small bird maybe 10-12 cms long and a migrant from China to India. They are often sighting foraging on the edges of paddyfields or around cattails and bushes.
The birds maintain a very low profile, almost hard to see unless we are specifically looking for them. They arrive during the peak harvest season where the fields are brown and hence camouflage very well in the fields.
I was after a Marsh Harrier that landed in the paddy fields and wasn't even looking for this warbler. I assumed this was the Clamourous Reed Warbler since that was making very loud noises and moved away to focus on a Rail. This year, there have been an increased number of sightings of this bird. Soon they will be on their way back once the reverse migration starts.

Norwegian Prima, departed from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal for a 5-night cruise to Bermuda, was about to make a S-turn to head south.
Thanks for having a look, wishing you a pleasant day!
More from Linlithgow on Friday. Dull and dreich here today which gives me time to get photos filed away. Awaiting delivery of a Canon RF 100-500 lens having partexed my old 500mm for it. The 500 was great but getting a bit too much to carry around.
View from our rental apartment just outside of Portree. You can see Portree and the Old Man of Storr in the background. When the tide would come in, the body of land in the water is a full island.
Another image of tombs and commemorative slabs in the Tower (belfry) from that fascinating place, Jerpoint Abbey. It is believed that St. Nicholas (the original Santa Claus) was brought by two Crusader knights from Myra, Turkey to Jerpoint. The table tomb and slabs are of the Butler family and other powerful families of the area, who used the ruins as a burial site. The Butler family were leased the monastery after the great Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII in 1542.
Still on the theme of model car interiors, this is the Ferrari 308 GTS by model maker Norev. Their models are also at the lower end of the budget but start to include such niceties as carpet. Also nice to see them include that wonderful and traditional Ferrari chrome gate for the gear lever, which itself had the gear pattern on top of the lever. This model even has a tinted band at the top of the windscreen (remember them?) No opening doors on this model, but it does have a removable roof. Sat nav in this one is a good old fashioned street directory and a road atlas (or whatever you might have called your maps in the rest of the world) - ah, the good old days!
A 12 image focus stack taken with the Canon R10, with the RF 16mm lens. Lighting from a medium warm LED desk lamp around 6 inches above the model.
The camera lens was actually touching the model for this macro shot, and the total width of the model is about 3 inches.
The dust is full size! I really did dust this before shooting! ; )
