The Nash Family moved to this site in 1859 and built a log cabin. About ten years later, they built this farm house. The house was recently restored to the way it looked in 1869.

Paint chips from the house were used to determine the original exterior and interior colors. That resulted in a green house with gold trim. Those were typical colors in the Victorian era.

The house is the focal point of Nash Farm, a 5.2 acre restoration project six blocks off Main Street in Grapevine, TX.

While on our trip to Lexington, Kentucky, we stumbled upon a distillery that was off the beaten path, Castle and Key Distillery. This historic distillery is located in the community of Millville, south of Frankfurt on Glenns Creek. While there, we bought a bottle of their single barrel straight rye whiskey.

The following is the description printed on the bottle's labels:

Through The Courage Of Our Convictions...

The site of our distillery is rich with Kentucky history. Here on the medieval-style grounds dating back to 1887, whiskey was once made under the watchful eye of Colonel E.H. Taylor. Decades later, after his passing, the distillery itself fell into disrepair and sat abandoned for half a century. And that, we thought, would not do. When we started Castle & Key, our dream was to build on Colonel Taylor's fine foundation. Our single barrel rye is perhaps the purest fruit of that ambition each bottle derived from one barrel, never blended, the full breadth of a whiskey's journey from grain to glass enclosed in a singular product. Where Colonel Taylor around today, this is the dream we'd pour for him to let him know his Castle is in good hands.

The eastern side of Winchcombe station has an extensive layout of sidings and a former goods yard, which now house engines and much rolling stock, both preserved and awaiting restoration. This sneaky peek shows three roads full of old coaches awaiting their fate, with the distant engine shed. This scene is at the 11.74 mile mark. Public access is not possible to this yard on the grounds of (groan) Health and Safety, but being an Explorer by nature I can't be bothered with all that Nanny State crap!

"The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is a railroad museum in Strasburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The museum is located on the east side of Strasburg along Pennsylvania Route 741. It is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission with the active support of the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania (FRM).

The museum's collection has more than 100 historic locomotives and railroad cars that chronicle American railroad history. Visitors can climb aboard various locomotives and cars, inspect a 62-ton locomotive from underneath, view restoration activities via closed-circuit television, enjoy interactive educational programs, and more.

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania was created to provide a historical account of railroading in Pennsylvania by preserving rolling stock, artifacts, and archives of railroad companies of the Commonwealth. However, the museum has branched out over the years, acquiring some pieces that are not directly related to Pennsylvania, but are important to the history of railroading.

In addition to full-size rolling stock pieces, the museum offers a number of other commodities, which include several model railroad layouts, a hands-on educational center, a library and archives, and a smaller exhibit gallery on the second floor.

Strasburg is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. It developed as a linear village, stretching about 2 miles (3 km) along the Great Conestoga Road, later known as the Strasburg Road. The population was 3,132 at the 2020 census.

The town was named after the French city of Strasbourg, the native home of an early settler. The town is often called "Train Town USA" because of the many railroad attractions in and around town, including the Strasburg Rail Road and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Much of the movie Witness was filmed on a farm nearby. Much of the borough was listed as a historic district by the National Register of Historic Places in 1983." - info from Wikipedia.

The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.

LGOC/London transport AEC Renown "Scooter" LT1059 seen some years ago , this bus is still awaiting full restoration by the London bus preservation trust at Cobham.

after covering up the synthetic net/grid/fabric the clay plaster must dry out, which takes several days. Prescriptions say it will dry 1 mm a day. In the meantime the carpenters will go ahead with the wood work and later the bricklayer will return and finish off the plastering with a thicker layer.

More photos to come.......

Water pumps are not all created equal... The rusty one is the old one. I suspect it is a cheapo 1yr reman unit, even though the shop that installed it charged the owner top dollar. Note it has smaller blades on the impeller and has pressed-in hose connections... The seals failed just after a year - good timing on their part... :(

The new one is a new Master cast unit with a lifetime warranty. Note the wider impeller and cast hose connections...

Good surface prep is essential to a good seal. I needed this to go on right the first time and not leak as it is a pain to replace it. I used engine cleaner on all surfaces, followed by alcohol (including the new pump as it had a light film of oil on it to retard rust during shipment).

I used Permatex flexible sealer on both sides of the gasket, following the instructions well. Not a drop leaked after installation! Woo-hoo!!!

1970 Red Chevelle Restoration Repair

End of a weary day - The new water pump and fuel pump are installed and engine cleaned up a bit. No water or coolant was added yet.

The core support was painted (last picture) along with the frame rails at the front.

The belts were installed and tightened in the specific way described in the service manual and the POR15 was left to dry overnight.

Now the engine looks bad... It looks "rusty", but it is the old discolored, flaking gold paint. It needs to be repainted soon in the original gold color, which will be a lot brighter and elegant looking. That will be done later next year when the A/C system gets restored.

The accessory brackets and air cleaner will be powder coated then, too!

Heck, might as well do the pulleys and fan while I am at it!

As the Phase I restoration activities wind down at the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve (ELER) the day approaches when areas of the reserve will be open to the public. The plans have long called for public access to levee-top trails, the construction of a kayak launch on Mt. Eden Creek (a new Eden Landing!), and a chance to see the impressive Oliver Salt Works ruins at close range.

Over the last year or so it seems that with each visit to Eden landing I find new projects underway in anticipation of public access. These include benches and signage near the outlet of Salt Pond E9, signage standards installed near the row of wind pump ruins in Salt Pond E14, construction well under way at the kayak launch site, new fencing to denote areas out-of-bounds, and most recently construction of viewing platforms underway at the Oliver Salt Works site.

Last Sunday I headed out to ELER with the idea of taking some follow up color and texture shots of the shallow waters in the newly reconfigured Salt Pond E12 complex. On arriving I found these ponds largely dry with huge bags of pea gravel placed on several of the “bird islands” dotting the landscape. So, I wandered over to the Oliver Salt Works site where I found construction had begun on public viewing platforms. This construction became my subject for the day.

This was a pleasant day of kite flying with the Sutton 16 lifting my lighter Canon EOS-M cradle with ease. After photographing the Oliver Salt Works site, Claudia and I walked the camera down to the largely dry E12 pondlets and then back up to the new flow control structure at the west end of E13. All together this was a productive session. This particular set of photographs covers the Oliver Salt Works construction site.

I am taking these documentary photographs under a Special Use Permit from the California Department of Fish & Wildlife. Kite flying is prohibited over the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve without a Special Use Permit, as is access to this part of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge.

The restoration of the Cutty Sark is coming along with the masts being erected. Shame about the conservatory around the bottom as you will no longer be able to appreciate the lines of the hull.

The rest of Cutty Sark Gardens in Greenwich is still a building site.

This house, at North and Woodward, built in 1888, has been vacant for years. Lately, though, I've seen cars parked here, and people going in and out, and it has a new owner this year.
