The Sunday afternoon 6M51 working from Doncaster Down Decoy to Liverpool Biomass Terminal working is often used to move additional locomotives from 'base' in Doncaster ready for the week's Liverpool-Drax biomass workings.
It was no surprise, therefore, that the working after the Christmas break included a couple of additional locomotives Dead In Train - both of which happened to be special livery "celebrities".
Standard livery Class 66, 66 730 "Whitemoor" led the GB Railfreight trio of Sheds through Acton Bridge in the late afternoon sun, with BR Green 66 779 "Evening Star" and rainbow-adorned 66 773 "Pride of GB Railfreight" tucked in behind.

I love watching the Tour De France but with upwards of 5 hours racing somedays I find I need to do something while I am watching it. A couple of years ago I decided that July would be dishcloth month as they are so mindless I can work on them and follow the race at the same time. On Sunday I noticed I was running out of cotton and there was still 6 days of racing left so I made a trip into the craft shop to stock up. I think I may have been a bit over zealous as when I got home and had a good look at the purchase I realized just how much I bought. Oh well I should be good for the last 5 days and possibly next year as well.
Our lad is back to school tomorrow. It's going to be his last year in primary school - next year it's off to big school. Where do the years go........??? Anyhoo, we've been shopping today to restock his pencil case.

This last couple of days I have seen a huge flock of Fieldfares restocking on calories for their imminent journey back to their Fennoscandian breeding grounds. Most of them were in the fields but this individual perched in a conifer briefly, before joining the rest of the flock.
According to the BTO, around 680,000 Fieldfares arrive in Britain each autumn from their breeding grounds in Russia and Scandinavia. A few pairs do breed in Britain too but they are very rare and erratic. In winter they usually travel around in large groups, stripping trees of fruit or berries very quickly then moving on. This contrasts with Mistle Thrush which will try to defend a berry tree for its exclusive use, but cannot hope to win against a big gang of Fieldfares. When the berry trees are stripped they move onto the fields to feed. In their nesting grounds they usually nest communally and will vigorously defend the "colony" against would-be predators, even dive-bombing and defecating on the intruders. This contrasts markedly with their behaviour in Britain in winter where they can be remarkably skittish. And one final thing, its scientific name pilaris nonsensically means to remove hair from a mistake made centuries ago (the word depilation comes from the same root). The mistake came from the similarity between the Greek word for a thrush (Trikhas) and the word for hair (Trikhos).

I wanted to do a "Star Citizen" style ship, with a lavish cockpit that has a somewhat luxurious feel to it. The general shaping is more akin to a generic RTS fighter, but I tried to spice it up with just enough details to compliment the ostensibly simple shape.

Tra il 1987 e il 1989 con un progetto di "Restocking" effettuato in collaborazione dalla L.I.P.U. (Lega Italiana Protezione Uccelli) e dalla Regione Sardegna, sono stati immessi nel Monte Ferru di Cuglieri 36 grifoni, portando cosƬ a circa un centinaio il numero complessivo di avvoltoi attualmente presenti nell'isola. Insieme al capovaccaio, si tratta dell'unica specie di avvoltoio che vive e si riproduce nel territorio italiano. I grifoni sono caratterizzati da una colorazione marrone rossiccia sul dorso e sulla parte superiore delle ali, il petto color sabbia con leggere sfumature rossicce, piumaggio cortissimo sul collo e sulla testa, di color bianco, ed infine la parte inferiore delle ali scura rispetto al dorso. La coda ĆØ relativamente corta e l'apertura alare ĆØ di 243 ā 270 cm. Il volo dei grifoni ĆØ caratterizzato da battiti lenti e profondi. Possiedono una netta predilezione per il volteggio, durante il quale tengono le ali leggermente arcuate verso l'alto con dita ben distanziate cosicchĆ© il profilo frontale appare simile ad una "V" poco profonda. Possiedono, inoltre, vista ed olfatto acuti, grazie ai quali sono capaci di identificare una fonte di cibo anche a grandi distanze. L'habitat ideale dei Grifoni ĆØ l'ambiente aperto, sia montano che collinare, dove gli individui possono localizzare le carogne e nidificare tra gli spuntoni di roccia. Si tratta di una specie piuttosto sociale, che ama stare con i propri simili nelle zone di nidificazione e spesso nella ricerca di cibo.

They also have acute sight and smell, thanks to which they are able to identify a food source even at great distances. The ideal habitat of the griffon vulture is the open environment, both mountainous and hilly, where individuals can locate carrion and nest among the rock outcrops. It is a rather social species, which likes to stay with its own kind in the nesting areas and often in the search for food.

The 171 was restocked for its new contract with new E40Hs, but it was also withdrawn between the Elephant & Castle and Holborn, destroying a vital link; people coming from south-east London now have to take two buses just to get into town.
There is much to take in in this scene...
In the foreground is Freyberg Beach which (along with nearby Oriental Bay) was restocked with sand shipped over from Nelson (in the South Island) in 2006 and is now a very popular beach ā especially during the Summer months...
Multi-million dollar Apartments across the road from the beach provide their owners with fabulous views of the harbour, down-town Wellington and the mountains away to the north...
Towering above the Apartments is St Gerardās Monastery ā originally built as a home for the Catholic Order of Redemptorists but which is now home to The Institute for World Evangelisation. icpe-nz.blogspot.co.nz/p/about-st-gerards-monastery.html
In the upper left of the scene is the old broadcasting studios and transmission tower for the former classical radio station 2YC near the top of Mount Victoria; Mt Victoria itself towers over the city and harbour...
