* El Castillo de Medellín comenzó siendo un campamento romano en 74 d.C. En el siglo XIII se convirtió en una fortaleza medieval. Después de la reconquista del castillo en el año 1234 por Fernando III el Santo, perteneció a varios dueños durante el siglo XIV. El castillo lo reconstruyó el rey Enrique II, en el año 1357, si bien no alcanzó su forma definitiva hasta la segunda mitad del siglo XV. Entre los años 1475 y 1479, tomó parte a favor de Juana la Beltraneja al igual que la mayoría de la nobleza extremeña.
Se encuentra emplazado sobre una colina junto al río Guadiana. Fue declarado monumento histórico artístico y bien de interés cultural en 1931.

Protea is both the botanical name and the English common name of a genus of South African flowering plants, sometimes also called sugarbushes or fynbos. The family is Proteaceae. In local tradition, the protea flower represents change and hope. The extraordinary richness and diversity of species characteristic of the Cape flora are thought to be caused in part by the diverse landscape, where populations can become isolated from each other and in time develop into separate species. The main vectors responsible for the transfer of pollen in protea cultivation are birds, insects, and wind. Some Protea species exhibit both self-pollination and cross-pollination as a method of reproduction. Cross-pollination is preferred, though, as a method of reproduction because it provides genetic diversity in the population. When cultivating proteas, breeders use hand pollination as a controlled method to transfer pollen from one flower to another. Proteas usually flower during spring. The general structure of their flower heads consists of a mass of flowers on a woody receptacle. The ovary is protected by the receptacle, thus is not seen when looking at the flower, but the anthers are present at the top of the flower, which can then easily transfer the pollen to the vectors. 11113

While visiting in Grand Rapids I came across this sculpture, I found it interesting although I am not sure quite what it represents.....anybody know??
This image represents an unexpected sight. Exploring areas near Kanab, Utah, we were on our way to Old Paria, which was billed as a ghost town with a wooden structure which would make for a wonderful foreground against the striated hills behind. We read that the structure was actually built as a movie prop and was used in westerns, including The Outlaw Josey Wales. Supposedly, it was damaged and moved to higher ground nearby to protect it from floods. We found, or rather didn't find the structure, which we're pretty sure no longer exists. At least we couldn't find it, and it wasn't for lack of trying. We were rewarded, however, with this view along the way. Luckily, the area had been dusted with snow that morning, adding a delightful frosting to the hills and gullies and the remnants of the snowstorm in the sky.
This boarded up shotgun house may date to the early 20th Century. It would be nice to believe that it was saved and relocated for local historical preservation purposes.
Shotgun houses generally consist of a gabled front porch and two or more rooms laid out in a straight line. Rooms are directly connected without hallways. Shotgun houses may have derived their name from that room format, as it was sometimes said that a bullet shot from the front door would pass through the house without hitting anything and exit through the back door. However, the term may also be derived from togun, the Yoruba word meaning “house” or “gathering place.” Although shotgun houses are small, were inexpensively built, and generally lack amenities, they have been praised for their architectural virtues, which include the ingenious use of limited space and decoration such as gingerbread trim and brightly painted exteriors. They represent a unique African American contribution to architecture in the United States, dating from the early 19th century to the early 20th century.

Painted ceramic benches representing all the provinces in Spain are arranged round the square.
It was built because of the Ibero-american Exhibition of 1929, held in Seville. Its creator was Aníbal González. He mixed a style inspired by the Renaissance with typical elements from the city: exposed brick, ceramics and wrought iron (worked by Domingo Prida). Its floor plan is semicircular. It is dominated by 2 towers, one on each side of the enclosed area, which frame the central building where the main rooms are. Between the two towers runs a network of galleries with an arcade of semicircular arches leading to exits in different parts of the square, where a fountain stands.

Anakena, a paradise beach:
Anakena, which is the main beach on Easter Island, represents the typical picture that we all have when we think of a paradisiacal beach. Its white and fine coral sand, crystalline turquoise sea, calm waves and coconut palms (brought from Tahiti several decades ago) make it an ideal place for rest and leisure.
Anakena beach invites to bathe at any time of the year, as the water temperature is maintained at an average of a pleasant 20ºC, with small variations in summer and winter.
Anakena is still a pretty unspoiled beach, with few swimmers, especially during the morning (organized tours usually arrive in the afternoon) or in the low season, which allows, sometimes, to enjoy alone this small, remote and beautiful paradise.

Representante de la arquitectura de finales del siglo XIX, obra del arquitecto Santiago Rebollar, que finalizó su construcción en 1892. Destaca la fachada principal, rematada con el escudo de la ciudad, y la de la Merced, con una tribuna de columnas jónicas coronadas por un frontón. Toda la parte baja del edificio es de piedra caliza blanca y la superior de ladrillo visto y piedra caliza.
En el interior una impresionante escalera, desarrollada en dos vertientes y cubierta por una cúpula decorada por Ángel Andrade y Samuel Luna. En sus galerías, como exposición permanente, destaca la obra de Andrade junto a otros pintores y escultores de la provincia.

Son uno de los símbolos de la ciudad y poseen un enorme valor tanto cultural como histórico. En 2010, el Comité del Patrimonio Mundial decidió presentar la zona de canales concéntricos del siglo XVII como candidata a entrar a formar parte de la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO.
Como dato técnico, es interesante saber que cada tres días el agua de los canales es totalmente renovada, lo cual se realiza cerrando cada noche una decena de esclusas y bombeando miles y miles de metros cúbicos de agua desde la isla de Zeeburg.
Si bien la cantidad de canales es bastante importante, los canales principales son cuatro, dispuestos en forma semicircular concéntrica: Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht y Prinsengracht, aunque hay otros canales secundarios más pequeños que son también muy atractivos.
Típica de Amsterdam es la arquitectura de las llamadas "casas del canal", construidas por pequeños y medianos comerciantes, caracterizadas por sus estrechas y relativamente altas fachadas. En su mayoría consistían de un depósito de mercancías instalado en el altillo y la vivienda propiamente dicha. Las mercancías eran transportadas por los canales y subidas a los altillos por medio de unos montacargas que todavía pueden observarse en algunas viviendas. Los característicos hastiales (rectos, escalonados, en forma de cuello o campana) que rematan la parte superior de las fachadas fueron pensados en principio para ocultar los tejados, aunque respetando en la diversidad un cierto estilo típicamente holandés. Hasta que el sistema de numeración vino a reemplazarla, la forma de identificar cada vivienda consistía en colocar una placa con escenas que representaran el oficio o la ocupación de sus habitantes. Algunas todavía están en su lugar, otras fueron rescatadas y expuestas en los jardines del Rijksmuseum.
Cette sculpture, implantée dans la roseraie du Jardin de ville, représente le héros de la mythologie antique Hercule. Elle se compose d'un piédestal en pierre et d'une statue en bronze fondue en 1996 d'après un original datant de la fin du XVIè siècle conservé au musée de Grenoble.
Cette sculpture évoque deux des douze travaux imposés au héros par la déesse Junon : tuer le lion de Némée dont la dépouille s’enroule autour de sa jambe et retombe à ses pieds ; voler les pommes d'or du jardin des Hespérides qu'Hercule tient ici dans sa main gauche. Le modelé puissant, particulièrement celui du torse qui laisse apparaître les muscles saillants, donne à cette œuvre une présence monumentale que renforcent la régularité des traits du visage et le regard déterminé. Longtemps présenté comme un portrait allégorique du duc de Lesdiguières, attribué à Jacob RICHIER, sculpteur attaché au duc et connu notamment pour les décorations du Château de Vizille, Hercule est aujourd'hui considéré comme une œuvre anonyme de la Renaissance italienne. Transportée à Grenoble au début du XVIIIè siècle par les descendants du duc, l'œuvre est achetée par les consuls de la ville de Grenoble en 1719, en même temps que l'hôtel et son parc. En 1740, elle est installée dans la partie boisée du jardin appelée "le bocage", au centre de l'actuelle roseraie du Jardin de ville. Restée au même emplacement pendant plus de deux siècles, la sculpture est tombée de son socle en 1989 en raison d'une usure extrême. Restaurée, la statue a pris place dans les collections du musée de Grenoble. Deux copies en bronze permettent, néanmoins, de la retrouver dans l'espace public : l'une dans le Jardin de ville depuis 1996, l'autre dans le parc du domaine de Vizille depuis 2008, à l'emplacement originel de la statue.
Representa a la familia Umbelíferas, las encontramos en este mes de agosto por bordes de caminos rurales luciendo todo su esplendor, sus umbelas, entre 5 y 10 cm. de diámetro cuando están abiertas lucen multitud de florecillas blancas de pétalos asimétricos cuando las flores están cerradas parecen nidos de pájaros, allí se guardan los tesoros que son sus semillas, sus formas asemejan a delicados encajes antiguos.
Los ingleses le dieron un nombre que le va de maravilla a esta planta, la llaman: ” Encaje de la Reina Ana ”En invierno desaparecen quedando en la tierra solo las gruesas raíces esperando la próxima temporada. Está distribuida por Europa, Norte de África, Asia, Norteamérica hasta el norte de México.Usada como planta medicinal, su raíz es diurética, usada también en cosmética y perfumería, esta y otras plantas modestas, deberían de hacernos pensar los beneficios que nos aporta la naturaleza para cuidarla y protegerla.

Daucus carota subespecie sativus, appelée populairement carotte, est la forme domestiquée de la carotte sauvage (Daucus carota), espèce de la famille des ombellifères, également appelée apiacée, considérée comme la plus importante et la plus consommée au sein de cette famille. Elle est originaire d’Europe et d’Asie du Sud-Ouest. Elle est cultivée pour sa racine beaucoup plus grande, savoureuse et de texture moins fibreuse que l’espèce sauvage.

Las esculturas zoomorfas representando totos y cerdos fueron en origen una manifestación simbólica del pueblo pre-romano de los vettones, habitantes de las actuales provincias de Ávila, Salamanca, Cáceres y parte de la de Toledo al menos desde el siglo V a.c. hasta la conquista romana, hacia el 136-133 a.c.
Los Toros de Guisando no se hallaban ligados a un castro pre-romano, como en otros casos conocidos, sino a una antigua ruta de comunicación ya existente en tiempo romano. En esta época se realiza la inscripción latina del primer toro, que dice "LONGINUS PRISCO - CALAET Q PATRI F C" ("Longino se encargó de hacer (este monumento) para su padre Prisco, de los Calaéticos"). Ello indica que pudieron ser reaprovechados en el siglo I-II a partir de las tallas anteriores o incluso esculpidas expresamente para constituir un monumento romano de carácter funerario y/o conmemorativo.
La vistosidad de los toros debió hacer que en tiempo medieval fueran incorporados a la venta Juradera como algo pintoresco, formando parte de ella.

* La Fuente del Río, es el lugar donde brota el curso del Río Cabra (Afluente del Genil y subafluente del Guadalquivir)). Desde este lugar, el romano egabrense, Tribuno Militar de la VI Legión, Marco Cornelio, hizo construir un acueducto que condujo estas aguas hasta la población de Igabrum. Y así consta en la epigrafía que se puede encontrar en dicho lugar.
La Fuente del Río está declarada paraje de interés natural a nivel internacional.

Svrzo House represents the culture of living of city Muslim family from the end of XVII century.
After the siege of Sarajevo, the house was rebuilt and reopened again in 1997; during 2005 another bigger reconstruction has been done: roof, pavement, installations and restoration of pictures.
Sciacca can boast a great cultural tradition starting from its
urbanistic patrimony represented by the historical centre
of medieval origins with the sixteenth century plant still
perfectly legible. The urban expansion of the “marina
district”, dating back the eighteenth – nineteenth centuries, strongly
characterizes the sea view.

Las Alondras y todos los representantes de su familia los alaudidos, son cada día mas escasos,
Habitantes de espacios abiertos, sufren como otras tantas especies de aves, la explotación intensiva de muchos pastizales.
Campos de cultivo de cereales de crecimiento rápido que se siegan antes de que las aves puedan haber terminado su ciclo reproductor y rociados de herbicidas y pesticidas que envenenan a sus presas, la verdad es que no lo tienen fácil para sobrevivir.
Sin embargo, bastan que en esos cultivos intensivos, se dejen pequeñas parcelas de terrenos sin sembrar, donde crezcan las mal llamadas malas hierbas y no se echen tantos pesticidas y herbicidas a los cultivos, que al final también nosotros los terminamos ingiriendo y acumulando en nuestros tejidos, para que las alondras y demás aves habitantes de estos espacios, pudiesen criar y alimentarse.
¿Estaremos dispuestos a ello?.
En algunos lugares se hace con resultados muy buenos en lo referente a los aguiluchos cenizos y pálidos,
Ojala esa sensibilidad cada vez este mas presente, pero tengo muchas dudas de ello.

Sadly not anymore for the LTB is a non-profit diy Arts, Music & Community venue - we’re a showcase for Coventry’s grassroots culture!
The premises were originally built in 1910 as prestigious showrooms for The Rover Company - and have had various uses since then. A Food Office for collecting ration stamps and council hq during wartime, then (following a major facelift in 1955) several department store occupations - then, most recently, The Litten Tree Pub.
Now under demolishment and redevelopment is planned, with the building set to be replaced as part of the City Centre South residential scheme - Coventry City Council has however granted us ‘meanwhile use’ foc, until 10/1/25.
It was a wonderful privilege for me, to go through this building, with the Coventry Photography Group and share with them their loss of this very fine community venue building, in which many of their photos were on display there and I was glad to provide some of my photos to a photographer (Bill Savage) who is writing a book and making a publication of this place; Titled: Shooting the Photographer!

There was a zoo here until the 19th century when animal welfare concerns saw the remaining animals transferred to more suitable accommodation in the new London Zoo at Regents Park.

La Capilla Sandy Hook se encuentra dentro de la Unidad Sandy Hook del Área Recreativa Nacional Gateway. Construido en 1941, esta capilla histórica fue utilizada originalmente por el ejército de los EE. UU. En Fort Hancock.
Las nubes en la pintura Goya solía pintar muchas nubes de tormenta. Velázquez cielos complejos. Los retratos de nubes son una conexión histórica. Incluso la denominada como pequeña Edad de Hielo, entre los siglos XIV-XIX, aparecen representadas en los cuadros del pintor flamenco Pieter Brueghel El Viejo. Los pintores impresionistas buscaron capturarlas como si de una instantánea se tratara. El pintor del renacimiento Piero della Francesca pintó extrañas nubes lenticulares. Uno de los mejores cuadros que reflejan el contacto entre el humano y la naturaleza es El caminante sobre el mar de nubes, de Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), exponente de la pintura romántica alemana. Incluso vemos tormentas en los cuadros de El Greco. Y entre los mejores retratistas de cielos encontramos al flamenco Jacob van Ruysdael, el paisajista británico John Turner y el romántico John Constable, que fue, además de pintor, un estudioso de las nubes.

L’exposition «Meubles et intérieurs suisses» du musée national suisse ou Schweizerische Landesmuseum, Museumstrasse 2, Zürich, canton de Zürich, Suisse.
Cette exposition présente les meubles et les intérieurs provenant des collections du Musée national suisse en s’articulant autour des salles historiques datant de la période comprise entre le 15e et le 17e siècle. Celles-ci sont intégrées dans le bâtiment et font la réputation du Musée national bien au-delà des frontières helvétiques.
La collection de ce musée ouvert en 1898 est présentée dans l'ordre chronologique en commençant au rez-de-chaussée. Les points forts du musée sont les objets de la collection archéologique de la Suisse, la section médiévale et les reconstitutions d'intérieurs de diverses époques. Las Tablas son uno de los últimos representantes de un ecosistema denominado tablas fluviales que se forman al desbordarse los ríos en sus tramos medios, favorecidos por fenómenos de semiendorreísmo y la escasez de pendientes. El humedal se forma en la confluencia del río Guadiana y su afluente Cigüela y es uno de los ecosistemas acuáticos más importantes de la península ibérica por la variedad y calidad de la fauna y flora que habitan en ella, así como por aquellas aves que la emplean en los pasos migratorios. Las Tablas sirve de refugio a más de 2.000 especies (plantas, aves, insectos, peces, réptiles... ).
Sin embargo, la supervivencia del parque peligra debido a la sobreexplotación de los acuíferos. Debido a esta degradación, el 22 de octubre de 2009 la Comisión Europea abre un expediente a España,6 mientras que la Unesco ya había expresado con anterioridad la posibilidad de retirar la figura de Reserva de la Biosfera. La Unesco abrió un expediente contra España a instancias de la denuncia presentada en noviembre de 2007 por las organizaciones ecologistas (Ecologistas en Acción, Greenpeace, SEO/BirdLife y WWF); en ella se argumentaba que la Reserva de la Biosfera de La Mancha Húmeda y, en especial, Las Tablas de Daimiel, presentaban un alto nivel de degradación que suponía la pérdida de los valores que las habían hecho merecedoras de la calificación como Reserva de la Biosfera.
