If a Nuclear Waste Repository is built will the Canada/USA free trade agreement force us to take the USA waste as well?
The National Museum of Ireland: Archaeology is the national repository for all archaeological objects found in Ireland and home to over two million artefacts.
The building, designed by Cork architects Thomas Newenham Deane and his son Thomas Manly Deane, is a Dublin architectural landmark.
In the great centre court, a balcony is supported by rows of slender cast-iron columns with elaborate capitals and bases decorated with groups of cherubs. On the balcony, further rows of plain columns and attractive openwork spandrels support the roof.
The museum's purpose is to collect, preserve, promote and exhibit all examples of Ireland’s portable material heritage and natural history.
Interpret and promote the collections and make them accessible to audiences at home and abroad
Be the authoritative voice on the relevant aspects of Irish heritage, culture and natural history.
The National Museum of Ireland was founded under the Dublin Science and Art Museum Act of 1877. Previously, the Museum’s collections had been divided between Leinster House, originally the headquarters of the Royal Dublin Society, and the Natural History Museum in Merrion Street, built as an extension to Leinster House in 1856 - 1857.
Under the Act, the government purchased the museum buildings and collections. To provide storage and display space for the Leinster House collections, the government quickly implemented plans to construct a new, custom-built museum on Kildare Street and on 29 August 1890, the new museum opened its doors to the public.
Exhibitions include the finest collection of prehistoric gold artefacts in western Europe, outstanding examples of metalwork from the Celtic Iron Age and the Museum’s world-renowned collection of medieval ecclesiastical objects and jewellery.

Opening pages of "Nurse Dandlem's Little Repository of Great Instruction, containing the surprising Adventures of Little Wake Wilful, And his deliverance from the Giant Grumbolumbo. Written By the Famous Prussian, For the sole Amusement of the Chickabiddy Generation." Embellished with copper plates. Published and sold wholesale by James Lumsden & Son, price twopence.
Page 2 (left) gives the volume's title, written out decoratively in fonts of various style and size. Key words are emphasised in capitals; the word "Repository" rendered in Germanic script alludes to Nurse Dandlem's "Prussian" identity. Prominence is given to the note "Embellished With Copperplates", which is set off from the rest by a frame of two lines above and below. Information on publisher and price is given at the bottom of the page.
Page 3 (right) shows a full-page copper plate illustration of the book's assumed narrator, Nurse Dandlem. This character, "a hundred years old", is introduced as "a great friend to all good children". The following pages refer back to this frontispiece in their "Description of Nurse Dandlem and her little School": "we have a striking likeness of her in the frontispiece, with all her little learners about her, the Misses on her right hand, and the little Masters on her left. See how quiet they sit!"
The chapbook begins with a description of Nurse Dandlem and her pupils, with detailed examples of "good" and "bad" children among them. It then relates the story of Wake Wilful, "a very naughty boy", with comments by Nurse Dandlem that trace his misfortunes back to his disobedient character.
The illustration, oval in shape, is framed by a band above and a wreath of laurel leaves below; both confer an esteemed, classicaly noble character onto the contemporary, familiar scene of children being instructed. A well-kept fire and exact clock point at regular habits and homely virtues. Below the illustration is a caption reading "Old Nurse Dandlem Instructing Good Boys and Girls", on which the word "instructing" is given special prominence.
This chapbook was, typically for its kind, intended as an educational and moral tool, instilling a desire to be virtuous in its young readership while also being enjoyable.
