The Skellig Islands are 2 uninhabited, rocky islets off the southwestern coast of Ireland. Skellig Michael is known for its well-preserved early Christian monastery. The site, reached by steep steps, includes stone beehive-shaped huts, oratories and crosses. Thousands of puffins breed on Skellig Michael during the warmer months. To the northeast, the island of Little Skellig is home to a large colony of gannets.
The islands have now been plucked from relative obscurity to appear in the latest Star Wars films - The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
I know there's an option to replace photos. But I needed something for my 200th post milestone. And after getting more familiar with this platform and my own tools, I thought I'd have another crack at this shot and make it better, (besides, this shot would get no new publicity if I just replaced it, it's very far back in my roll).
My editing software has a very similar interface to adobe photoshop, so I'm sure most of my discussions on that topic on my posts will be familiar. The original shot had a few edits that I liked when I first started in April but after all this time felt too simple. Mainly the entire lower half of the image was pure black because I wanted all people out of the image. But after the disappointing reception of the Halloween series, apparently I couldn't risk going overboard with shadows anymore. So I took the original shot and older edit and began to merge the two seeing what I could do for "mk 2".
I wanted to rely more on the original shot for more editing options to show my improvements over the first post. The only part of the older post remaining in this is the red lantern. brighter towards the top, a gradient on the bottom, and blood red from the illumination. The rest of the image was taken from the original shot. The sakura branches and the lanterns have more light on them. The bottom is no longer completely dark. As much as it pained me to leave people in the shot, opting to instead blur them instead of painting it all black like last time. Added a special watermark as well for this one.
I don't intend to continue revisiting already posted shots, this is a special occasion. But was it worth it? Is this edit better than the last one?

Editors Note...
Once a year a pull out a few sets from years past to start of the new year. In 2024 this year I have went back & revamped one of my favorite severe storms photo shoots of 2018
Back then I over colorized & over saturated the images. Pixelated & not my best work... Images were what I wanted but not the final product. If you want to see those to compare to these remastered images... here is your Flickr Link to that set of images...
But these are Gems of Gems.. I've even added about 50+ images in this set that I wasn't able to work on back in 2018. I even made a video with the old images to kick off the 2023 season... You can watch this right here on Flickr... Click Here ** Please remember I used the old images in this video **
Lightning is my forte... It is why I chase storms. To have an photo opportunity come up like this & traveled only 6 blocks from my home to get these pics...Gotta Luv Nebraska!

About that evening...
An epic night of sunset light and storm light @ twilight. Its almost every storm chasers dreams... or at least, in my own opinion, to get along side of a storm like this, as its firing away some incredible CC & CG every few seconds. What more could you ask for...
I was that Lucky Guy that evening. Just mother nature and I. Close to home after a few long storm chasing jaunts is just fine by me. She was producing and I was capturing every incredible second of this storm.. No Forking Bolt went away that evening without me getting a snap of its presence..
