Today was a one-photo day. A good sort of one-photo day. As I was walking from the station to work I heard a kerfuffling commotion, as some girls saw each other, and - presumably because not dead or homeless after yesterday's extreme fire danger in the Blue Mountains, where many people (us included) fled to lower and safer grounds - ran excitedly squeeing towards each other and hugged madly.
Manual lens, camera in manual mode, didn't meter, didn't focus, didn't aim, didn't stop walking, shot from the hip... Got it. :-D
Camera got put away after that; sometimes you feel sure you're not going to find another photograph that feels worthwhile.
40091 at Stoke after arrival with a 1748 relief from Llandudno on Sunday 30th May 1982. This loco was taken from Flint to Stoke and from there we headed into Manchester for the overnight to Llandudno Junction to start to 40-fest that was to follow on Bank Holiday Monday with the Pope's visit to Heaton Park.
EMU 304036 is in the background ready to work a service to Manchester Piccadilly. The Whistler was withdrawn in September 1984 and scrapped 4 years later at Crewe.
These plinths and reliefs (circa 145 AD) in the entrance courtyard of the Palazzo dei Conservatori were originally at the Temple of Hadrian.
The figures on the plinths represent the provinces of the Roman empire. The emperor Hadrian was known for his extensive travels to most of the provinces. On the left is the plinth 'Hispania', and on the right "Mauretania'.
At the centre here is a relief of Trophy of Arms.

Dit muurrreliëf bevindt zich links naast de hoofdingang van de Daltonschool aan de Aronskelkweg. Rechts een uil als symbool van wijsheid. De gestileerde vogels bovenin doen mij denken het werk van Esscher. Op het andere reliëf stond sport en spel als motief afgebeeld, hier moet er echt gestudeerd worden.
Aan de andere kant van de hoofdingang bevindt zich nog zo'n reliëf met een andere voorstelling.
Gymnasium Atheneum Havo
Dit schitterende gebouw bestaat dit jaar 100 jaar.
Architect Co Brandes kreeg de opdracht om aan de rand van Den Haag een school te bouwen. Kijkduin was leeg, de school had alle ruimte. Pas later zijn de woonhuizen eromheen gebouwd in dezelfde stijl.

Macquarie Street in Sydney is home to the State Parliament Building, Rum Hospital and a number of commercial buildings from the British colonial era. The street is favoured by many leading medical specialists and lawyers for their 'chambers'. This ornate relief being above the entrance to one of these.

This sculpture of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove is in the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC.

Carved marble capital on a column in the Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai.
The light fixture behind is pretty nice, too. Also noticed the vaulted and domed ceiling work.

L'effet relief 3D est obtenu en modifiant l'intzensité lumineuse du fond de la photo en l'occurence, l'eau et les arbres de façon à bien les discocier de la passerelle par elle même. La progression lumineuse sur la passerelle est découpée en quatre tranches qui ne se remarquent pas du fait des traverses. Par contre, le fait d'avoir assombri le fond rends l'eau noirâtre là où les étangs d'Argoeuvres sont plutôt jaune/vert.
Ce cliché est à rapprocher de la photo précédente ou l'effet inverse a été recherché :

In this relief, we see men on two different skiffs trying to knock each other into the river, either with a pole, or hand-to-hand. A greasy pole, feats of strength . . . If the hieroglyphs describe ways in which Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep have been disappointed in the last year, this may be one of the first depictions of Festivus.

This stunning outdoor relief greets visitors to the Fellowship Congregational Church in Tulsa, OK. I have no idea who designed the church or the relief but am working on finding out -- will let you know when I do.

This stilted cabin at the beach of Sankt Peter-Ording actually serves as a public toilet and was a welcome haven on that stormy day.
