I've been waiting on this new Indy record shop to open in Bruntsfield, close to my work, for the last several weeks, and it finally opened recently. I nipped in for a browse after work on the opening day, chat to the owner, and picked up a couple of nice vinyl albums (a John Lee Hooker and a Miles Davis album). I'll be back in regularly, I think!
I'd have taken a photo of this cute storefront even without the cat, but I was delighted to see it there
Great record shop in Scarborough, had a quick look around could have spent much longer here but had the grand kids with me :(
Record Store Day today so we are highlighting one of our favorite vinyl shops, A-1 Record Shop on E 6th St in East Village. A-1 has been in business since 1996 & stocks a very well curated selection of used vinyl from a wide variety of genres @a1recordshop
So apparently I have this issue where I take pretty cool photographs, transfer them from my camera to my computer (and later to an external hard drive) where I forget about them. Such was thhe apparent case in October, 2011 when I made tyhis photograph in Columbia's Five Points of the iconic Papa Jazz Record Shoppe complete with some dude riding a skateboard up Greene Street!
Papa Jaszz has been a staple in Five Points for decades even as many other recprd stores came in went in Columbia, both locally owned and the inevitable chain stores, some of them within the confines of Five Points. Papa Jazz opened in 1980. It is located at 2014 Greene St, Columbia, SC 29205
We stumbled across this place by asking a street record seller for a Ray Barretto LP I wanted. He led us a few blocks over into the upstairs room of a shoe shop, which was packed with all kinds of old latin records. I could have spent days here, this place was a dream!
And I didn`t have time to check the US LPs or the 45s. They didn`t have the Barretto but I found couple of Charlie Palmieri LPs on Tico, at a good price :) :)
We've been to Oregon's "Bay Area" twice in the last month for an extended new years weekend and back again during Martin Luther King Day weekend to see giant ocean waves. I noticed this past weekend that there's a record store here in North Bend. Now I'm already planning our next trip back here, although I'm fully expecting to find nothing but AOR dollar-bin fodder.
Misty Mountain Roc (formerly The Electric Banana) on Stratford Road in the upper level of the Ego Hour hair salon. Claude and Sharon Gantt first opened MMR in the Knollwood Manor Shopping Center in 1972, then moved to the former Electric Banana location Stratford Road in 1974 where they stayed until closing in 1983. It was the best record store of it's time.
Here is a zoom-in from the previous photo of the headshop with Sharon behind the counter. On top of the stereo speaker to the far left is Led Zeppelin IV, probably playing side 2, song 1 on the turntable. Can you smell the incense burning? Better grab a pack of papers while you're here.
