The world record locomotive Siemens ES64U4 (EuroSprinter U4) of ÖBB pushes a RailJet train into Munich Central Station.

This particular locomotive holds the world speed record for electric locomotives, at 357 km/h. The record was set on the high-speed track from Nürnberg to Ingolstadt on Sept. 2nd, 2006, while the loco was still owned by Siemens and carried the number 1216 050.

In May 2008 the ÖBB received the loco, since June 23rd 2008 she runs as 1216 025 for ÖBB.

I flew up to Peace River (thank goodness for points!) with a few friends to see this Common Crane. It is only the second record for BC and was found by Jeannie Smith and Mark Phinney. It was feeding in a field with 2000 Sandhill Cranes. It is such a gorgeous bird. I was lucky to see this ABA Code 4 bird in the summer in Arizona but the views there were far more distant. I still can't get over that I have seen 2 very rare Common Cranes in North America this year!

This was my tenth new BC bird this year, which is crazy. What a great year so far!

Maybe sometimes we got it wrong, but it's all right

The more things seems to change, the more they stay the same

Ooh, don't you hesitate

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song

You go ahead, let your hair down

Sapphire and faded jeans

I hope you get your dreams

Just go ahead, let your hair down

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow

St Andrew's Church in Winterborne Tomson, Dorset, England, was built in the 12th century. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is a redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It was declared redundant on 1 June 1972, and was vested in the Trust on 26 March 1974.

The small flint and stone Norman Anglican Church of St Andrew has an apse at the east end and a barrel vault roof which curves around it. The roof was replaced and windows inserted in the 16th century. The oak door is heavily studded. The interior has limewashed walls, a 15th-century font and flag stone floor, along with early 18th-century oak fittings. The eighteenth century oak pews, the pulpit, screen, communion rails and matching table with barley sugar turned legs, and other woodwork were provided by William Wake, Archbishop of Canterbury, who had been raised in the village of Shapwick and whose family lived locally. The west end has a late medieval gallery with a panelled front which was probably originally a rood screen. The roof is topped by a small weatherboard belfry which resembles a dovecote.

By the early 20th century, the church had fallen into disrepair and was being used as an animal shelter by a local farmer. Repairs were paid for by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings who sold a collection of Thomas Hardy’s manuscripts to raise the funding. The work was supervised by A. R. Powys who also oversaw the work at the Old St Cuthbert's Church, Oborne

RIP, Don White, 11/26/21.

My uncle Don passed away this morning. He was the original record collector in our family, starting back in the 78 rpm era. He had the largest collection of music of anyone that I have personally known. This was just a small portion of his collection that he was able to take with him when he had to move into a retirement home. Keep that vinyl spinning...

Without the knife ,this could be just a close up of a rose ,so I drew a cutting knife to show how big the rose is.

A first for me. Always envied other folk capturing this. Hopefully I'll get a closer shot soon.

We put an electric heater and a water bowl on our patio. I keep warm water in the bowl and the birds are sure enjoying it. Not a very good picture through the class and a screen.

Our area is not prepared for the weather we are having.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentines.

DRY Weather

My friend, we are not going through a good time, here the relative humidity of the air is very low and there are many fires in the forests (Environmental Protection Area). Criminal fires, very sad...

Little creatures like this are dying,

fewer and fewer animals in the wild...

Meu amigo, não estamos passando por um momento bom, aqui a unidade relativa do ar está baixissima e com muitos focos de incêndio nas florestas (Area de Proteção Ambiental). Incêndios criminosos, muito triste...

“Record Store UK” was a nationwide event that was scheduled for the 18th April but obviously didn’t go ahead.

There is great interest nowadays in vinyl records, cassette tapes and other means of recording music that had been thought of as being largely defunct and this has spawned a wealth of smaller, independent retailers dealing in them.

Vinyl Attraction in Newark had not been opened long and suddenly had to close again due to the lockdown. The window is always very interesting, with many discs and memorabilia featuring many groups and names from my youth, even some records that I actually owned.

The event is put back to June and, as yet, no news as to if it will actually happen.

Happy Window Wednesday!

Records show that pilchards were exported to France as early as 1302, and in the late 18th century there were five seines and 55 boats based in the harbour. In the 1880s there was still a drift pilchard fishery and in the autumn around sixty boats fished in the North Sea.

So... My plan was to do badgers on the Mendips tonight, but they didn't show for what ever reason. Then I remembered the Nightjars were only a fifteen-minute drive away, so off I poodled.

I'd heard one out on the ridge the last time I was there, so I thought I better head in that direction. As I neared the top one flew right past me, I knew then I was in the right place. I stood and waited, but by then the cloud was coming over, and it was getting really dark really quickly, so I thought I'd bang it on the head, pick a better night and try again...

As I walked back to the fence line I could see a tiny blob about the size of a blackbird sat on a post, I couldn't quite make out what it was, so I put the pop-up flash on and hit the shutter button. 1/15 of a second was not ideal... had I thought about it, I could have changed the settings, walked up to the little fella (might even be a female as no obvious white on wing or tail outers) and got a better shot, but I was only thinking bird in flight captures... Anyway, I've now hatched a better plan... :@)

Here's another one in my series while in my Lakeview neighborhood in Chicago looking South towards downtown at night with a blue vinyl record on top.

This was a night when everyone was looking for the "Northern Lights" that appeared for about 45 seconds when I had my back turned after waiting for a couple of hours before and after. I may post another photo at some point of the city architecture that is in focus but I liked this feeling a bit better....

Chicago is a city of music with many adventures awaiting and yet it is not completely clear what those adventures entail so there's a bit of magic in the future. Chicago can be a rough city and a city (just like any city in America) full of classism and racism. It can also be a beautiful city where people look out for each other and you can see and experience beautiful art and music. Only the people who live here can determine the experience and its up to us to make the city thrive in its true potential and not succumb to all of the political upheavals and evils that are about to take place. Keeping Chicago a blue city means keeping it a Sanctuary City. It means not banning books. It means protecting the LGBTQ community. It means providing safe options for all. It means looking out for and celebrating diverse voices. All of these things we can continue to do if we work together.

A city like Chicago has a constant flux of visitors that move in and out of it each day and each small but definite interaction also changes the city. We want to welcome everyone in even in this precarious position but if there are those who bring in their hatred and their ignorance, we want to also show them a different way of life so that, when they return home, they realize there are some changes that can be made in their own homes and in their own towns.

Well chuffed to see this 'unringed' bird fishing along the Cripps River as I was driving home this evening, especially after telling people for days, we'll have an osprey here by the end of the week and then not seeing one... Good job I wasn't looking the other way as I crossed the bridge, or I would have missed it.

Shot through the reeds at Westhay. Nice to get one on the deck for a change :@)

Bit of a surprise to see this splendid otter pop up in front of the hide at Catcott lows today.

A shot of the stylus in action as the turntable spun.

En record a les barquetes que feian companyia els remers en els seus entrenaments diaris.

Tan debó ben aviat poguem gaudir de nou de la seva presència !

Don't laugh... Taken at gone 10:30pm... My first Nightjar ever YAY!! ... Tick. :@)

Think I might have to work on the quality a tad.

The first record of a mill at Worsbrough was in the Domesday book of 1086, although the exact location of the mill along the River Dove is unknown. The oldest part of the mill standing today dates from about 1625 and forms the two storey stone building known as the Old Mill, which houses the waterwheel. Before the Mill House was built in the mid 18th century the miller and his family would have lived in the mill itself. There are large fireplaces on both the ground and first floors and the lintel over the fireplace on the first floor is inscribed with several dates and initials of the millers.

The Old Mill was probably modernised in the early 1820’s to improve its output, and in the 1840’s the New Mill was built next door. The machinery in the New Mill was powered by a steam engine and a third floor, where grain could be stored in bulk, was added.

Trade for corn and flour began to drop off towards the end of the 19th century as cheap imported wheat came in from abroad.

The male I believe... A marked improvement on my last go at this.

This guy was over the Mendip hills, I spent a couple of hours looking for Ring Ouzels and Wheatears on Crook peak but blanked...

The Hobbies should be about now... thought I saw one last week out at Westhay. Can't wait to spend some time with them. Top sport. :@)
