🎧 Xavier Rudd - Follow the Sun
Okay... that was not Plan A. Today I planned to shoot a potential cloud inversion, but a tree blocked my way to the ideal vantage point. Heading back home, I decided to take a look at this angle and debut my 70-200mm. Landscape photographers know: when conditions throw you lemons... :-)
The good news is that I didn't come back home empty camera. Hope you like it!

Door een berichtje van een bevriend treinspotter (waarvoor nogmaals dank!!) reed ik deze morgen even naar Sint-Genesius-Rode. Er waren namelijk twee omgeleide cargo's onderweg op lijn 124: eentje in de richting van Antwerpen en eentje richting Frankrijk.
Voor de eerste omgeleide cargo richting Antwerpen koos ik voor een plekje op de lijn dat nog niet ten prooi gevallen is aan de GEN-werken (alhoewel die eigenlijk volgens de originele planning al bijna klaar moesten zijn (dacht ik), wordt het einde hier nu voorzien voor 2031!!) en daarom vatte ik post op het perron van station De Hoek. Hier vind je nog altijd lage perrons, oude bovenleidingspalen (uit het jaar 1951) en een oud bruggetje over het spoor en dankzij de bewolking kon ik dat bruggetje perfect mee in beeld brengen - over een aantal jaren zal hier namelijk een moderne brug liggen om niet minder dan vier sporen te overspannen.
Maar zoals jullie kunnen zien, straalt alles nu nog de 'tijd van toen' uit en in dit sfeertje passeerde me dan kort voor de middag de omgeleide cargo vanuit Woippy naar Antwerpen-Noord. De trein was vanuit Namur eerst richting Charleroi gespoord om vervolgens via Nivelles en het oostelijke ringspoor rond Brussel richting Vilvoorde en Mechelen te rijden. De normale route loopt in principe via Ottignies en Leuven maar omdat de spoorlijn tussen Gembloux en Ottignies nog steeds niet hersteld is van de waterschade door de overvloedige regenval midden juli, werd er dus een ommetje gereden.

LINΞΛS 1321 and 1320 are on their way from Woippy (F) to Antwerpen-Noord (B). As a result of railway works due to the flooding in mid-July, this train did not run via Ottignies and Leuven but took the long way from Namur to Charleroi and via Nivelles and Brussels to Antwerp.

Though Rio receives many praises for its natural beauties, the city surroundings are also a gift from nature. Specifically, the "sea" of mountains that surround my hometown. This photo was taken on a foggy morning right after sunrise, and you can see the mountains that start on Niterói and spread into other cities.

Analyse what to leave behind.
Setup your next moves and your next landmark.
Why am I writing this?
About one year ago, I went on my first #photo walk with a group of great #people. I was thinking about how quickly some of them became good #friends and I figured it'd be nice to look back to some shots of that day.
As my last landmark check was over one year ago, I decided to apply my grandfather's process on re-doing the post production of one of these shots.
I must say it blew my mind to observe how much my #technique has evolved in less than #365 days.

Created on June 2002, the Três Picos Park is a state park in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The state park is the largest preserves a large portion of Atlantic Forest in excellent condition. The park has the greatest biodiversity found in Rio de Janeiro due to the range in altitude from 100 to 2,316 metres (328 to 7,598 ft). Vegetation ranges from dense sub-montane rainforest to cloud forest and alpine meadows. It is considered a priority for conservation. It is home to endangered species such as hawks and cougar (Puma concolor) that require large areas of preserved environment within which to find their prey. It also includes a variety of arthropods, fish, amphibians and reptiles.
On top of that, it has one of the "best skies" in Brazil for astrophotography, with minimum light pollution that allows a perfect view of the Milky Way's core. Lovely!

Two days were enough for me to fall in love with Três Picos, a place located on the countryside of Rio de Janeiro. A lovely place to relax, breath in some peace and breath out our daily routine's stress.

"Russell's Raiders" taxies back in at Sion after a test flight 13 years ago today.
Then operated by Jet Alpine Fighters, she later moved to France as F-AZZU.
Unfortunately, during a local flight on 31 May 2011, she suffered an engine fire and during the attempted emergency landing clipped power lines and ended up in a field, where she was damaged beyond repair by the ensuing fire. Luckily the 2 POB both escaped with only minor injuries.
Niterói is a beautiful city right next to my hometown, Rio de Janeiro. It's a lovely place with an exciting view of the Wonderful City.
