Eindrücke von LOCOROTONDO
Einer der schönsten Orte Italiens, "Borghi più belli d'Italia" ist Locorotondo in der Mitte des Valle d'Itria.
Locorotondo, der "runde Ort" liegt in 410 m Höhe. Seine kreisförmige Struktur mit den weißen Häusern inmitten eines Netzwerkes von Gassen breitet sich rund um die Hauptkirche San Giorgio Martire aus.
Der Charme von Locorotondo liegt nicht in den einzelnen Sehenswürdigkeiten, sondern in seiner gemütlichen Atmosphäre mit schmalen Gassen und den weißen Kalkstein-Giebelhäusern, die mit vielen Blumen als Farbtupfer positive Emotionen wecken. Interessant sind die extrem schrägen Dächer "cummerse".
Obwohl Alberobello mit seinen Trulli-Häuschen nur in 8 km Entfernung von Locorotondo liegt, haben beide Orte eine völlig verschiedene Struktur und Bauweise.
Durch das Stadttor Porta Napoli aus dem 16. Jahrhundert betritt man das historische Zentrum.
Gegenüber befindet sich ein kleiner gepflegter Park mit einer Terrasse, von der aus man ein wunderbares Panorama über das Valle d'Itria und Martina Franca hat. Zu Recht wird Locorotondo als Balkon des Itria-Tals bezeichnet.

I have always loved an inviting arch or doorway. This is a fabricated image. The stone arch is based on a work "Stone Arch - Stock by HBKerr on DeviantArt". I used his free bitmap as a fill for my drawn wall shape and made a few minor alterations to fit the mood. The RCTS Solway Ranger railtour leaves Penrith for Workington behind Ivatt 2 Nos 46426/46458 on 13 June 1964. After the Ivatt 2-6-0's had reached Workington the majority of the participants joined a DMU, whilst the stock and the two steam engines set off for Carlisle via Penrith.
BR Standard 'Britannia' pacific 70003 ''John Bunyan'' waiting at Thetford station on a bright sunny day in March 1962, during the the RCTS 'Great Eastern Commemorative Steam Rail Tour', to mark the end of steam on the GE mainline..
70003 was withdrawn by BR five years after this picture was taken - in March 1967 - and scrapped in November of that year. Two examples of the class have been preserved.

It's a great year for me, so far, in bird shot terms. The Nuthatch nest that became a Woodpecker nest and now, on Sunday past, I stumble on a family of Mistle Thrushes, I hear them often, catch a glimpse now n again but, get decent shots? Never, before now.

Metro-Cammell class 101 dmu E53171 and E51222 forms part of the RCTS railtour "Mancunian Railtour", as we wait 40 minutes for a late running Hudderfield service at Penistone.
The line to the left is the abandoned Woodhead line to Hadfield which had closed just over 5 years previously
