This ram pump manages to pump water quite a distance. The water runs downhill from a pipe at the bottom of the cistern. Part of the water comes out a valve at the pump, the force of which drives a shaft up and down. As the shaft moves, it creates enough pressure to pump the rest of the water all the way back up the hill and to the top of the windmill!
Cheviot Cross ram, I was told after this photo that he is a piece of work, luckily I had a zoom lens and a fence in the way and I'm not stupid enough to enter a field where I don't know a large animals behaviour. Knowing his reputation I feel this picture fits his character.
