CosyWall Insulation (CWI) is an external wall insulation system (EWCIS) designed to insulate the walls of older homes. It provides thermal and acoustical insulation to existing wall cavities and is installed without the cost and hassle of removing the internal linings. Installation is done via small holes through the external cladding, or from inside via holes in the internal linings. The result is high installed R-values and a warm cosy home.

After installing AIRFOAM for 6 years, in 2013 we changed to Cosy Wall Insulation for existing walls. CosyWall insulation is manufactured in selected North American plants by melting and spinning a blend of inert, natural minerals. It is the only formaldehyde free, non-combustible, water repellent, durable dry-blown wall insulation with a trouble free history since 2002 of insulating New Zealand external wall cavities. A blown-in system is a process to install insulation. It’s extremely quick and pumps the insulation into spaces to ensure that they’re well filled at the right density to work at the optimum performance.

CosyWall insulation is a multi-purpose product designed to provide effective thermal and acoustical insulation for existing water tight external timber framed wall cavities, fibre cement, plywood or sealed masonary veneer claddings. In addition Cosy Wall insulation can be used to insulate new walls or provide acoustical insulation on internal walls. This is a type of insulation that will go in this space between walls. Blown into the wall cavity, it quickly fills the space creating a barrier designed to prevent heat transfe. Wall Insulation can reduce heating costs and helps to stabalise the overall temperature of your home, making it comfortable to live in all year round.

External walls account for up to 35% of heat less from the average house. With an uninsulated cavity, heat can easily escape meaning it requires more energy to maintain a comfortable temperature. A wall cavity filled with insulation can help reduces this heat loss, making the house warmer and reduce or in some cases remove the need to use heaters and fireplaces to heat your premises. Cavity wall insulation (cwi) is installed by professionals usually from the outside by drilling small holes in the wall and injecting loose insulating particles which settle to fill the cavity in your wall. Once complete, the drilled holes are filled again with minimal change to the aesthetics of the wall. A three-bedroom, semi detached home can be insulated in less than three hours by a trained installer.

A 60 second time lapse video of a custom Boulder County vacation home designed by F9 Productions Inc. Footage was filmed from 8:39 AM to 3:48 PM MST and entailed over 1265 still images each taken at 20 second intervals. The structurally insulated panels (SIPs) were installed by Precision Panel Colorado and as mentioned in an earlier blog post @ www.f9productions.com/blog.html, "the SIP panels helped us to not only achieve amazing R-Values of 48 on the roofs and 24 on the walls but also vaulted ceilings throughout the home thus increasing the feeling of the interior spaces" We will be filming part 2 of this two part video series in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

In the process of reroofing and residing the entire house due to storm damage in May. See that flimsy green insulation? Apparently it has an R value of 2 (I think that's what it was called). See how it doesn't cover the entire house? See all those large gaps between the insulation? That's because it wasn't properly done the first time. Now I'm beginning to understand why the propane bill has been so incredibly high for all these years.

After this house changed hands a few months ago the current residents have made some changes. First came a HVAC service company. Today it is a contractor bringing insulation materials to improve the R-value (resistance to temperature conduction) so the house uses less electricity to cool or to heat the interior, no matter how extreme the ambient air temperature in summer or winter.

Horizontal measurement, to the nearest 1/8 inch was accurate enough. Of the four sections of my 16-foot door, I had to cut panels to three different widths. So measure each section.

I bet they froze their nuts off..

This project is a personal dream come true. It consists of an all cedar post frame salvaged from a logging site that were left for trash.

I chose an old way of infilling the walls called 'Light Clay Straw'. Rice straw mixed lightly with a clay slip and then packed between to forms on either side. This r-value and substrate surface is ideal for beautiful clay plaster finishes.

Lily: "are you sure about the R-value of rolled vs. rigid foam insulation? My calculations suggest otherwise..."

Westbrook Superintendent Dr. Reza Namin received the Maine Public Utilities Commission/Efficiency Maine’s Hastings Award in a ceremony at the Maine State House.

Gov. John Baldacci presented the award to Dr. Namin. In a statement, Baldacci said the school department has made extraordinary efforts to increase the energy efficiency of its buildings and incorporate the work into the curriculum.

Last year, the school department allocated $600,000 of stimulus funds to improve the energy use in its buildings across the district. The City Council unanimously supported the board’s request.

In the past few years, new school buildings and additions in Westbrook have included upgrades in energy efficiency. The changes include new heating systems, solar gain, heating and cooling system control technology, and increased insulation and R-values in walls.

The school department also has made upgrades in lighting its gyms, hallways, and building trades facilities. It is now using high-output energy-efficient fluorescent and compact fluorescent lighting.

“This award reflects the partnership with the city and school,” Dr. Namin said after the ceremony. “In order for us to improve our buildings, it requires us to work together..”

The award is given annually in memory of Philip C. Hastings, founding director of Efficiency Maine.

Measure the second cut. I cut my center panels to 44-7/8 inches.

This is the cold, barren, empty door. It's the hot door in summer.

Saving energy and cutting energy costs aren't just about using an efficient gear and after that maintaining it appropriately. There is one specific thing you likewise ought Trying to save money on utility bills in your Arkansas home as energy prices continue to soar? Vented crawl spaces are notoriously inefficient spaces, costing homeowners millions in collective energy bills each year. The R-Value is the measurement of resistance to heat transfer in a material the average recommended R-value for a basement or crawlspace. You want to steer clear of types of healthy homes auckland can retain water, support mold growth, and lose R-value due to the moisture. The best crawl space insulation provides a vapor barrier as it insulates and will not be damaged by humidity this insulation is created from very fine fibers of glass and is typically pink or yellow. When it gets moist due to the humidity found in most crawl spaces, it can support mold and mildew growth. This further decreases its already low R-value.

It will protect your crawl space against water as it seals gaps and stops air leakage. However, this insulation is very expensive and is often messy and uneven when applied. Closed-cell spray foam is available in two forms: one-part and two-part. The two-part is often used by insulation contractors and combines two compounds at an application nozzle. One physical difference between the two is that closed-cell spray foam is typically very dense and hard, while open-cell foam is soft. Open-cell foam insulation is expensive, has a low R-value, and like healthy homes auckland, is messy and uneven when applied. Open-cell spray foam should not be used in crawl spaces because it does not create a vapor barrier to protect your crawl space from water and moisture.

Rigid Foam Insulation - This insulation is installed using foam panels rather than spray, making it cleaner to apply. These panels are mounted on the walls of a crawl space and use a closed-cell insulation design. The best news for most homeowners is that these foam panels tend to be less expensive than typical spray foam insulation. It is widely known that cooling and heating prices account for more than half of the energy resources in a home. Therefore, adding insulation and sealing your home from the atmospheric air are the two most significant power-saving enhancements you can make to your home. Insulation also serves as a sound barrier, which at times can be a plus towards providing a quiet living environment. Therefore, incorporating insulation in your healthy homes auckland will maintain it warm in the fall and winter seasons, cool during spring and summer, and quiet throughout the year. Sealing your home increases the effectiveness and efficiency of your insulation padding.

We opted to leave the outlet and wiring accessible and will cobble a removable something to fill the space; might even involve some 1/2 inch foam material. We used 2 inch Polyiscyanurate (Poly-iso-cyan-urate) 4x8 sheets with a rated R value of 13.1. We had talked about doubling the thickness but thought it would be an awful big bump on the wall.

bit.ly/zqzi0yThere are six actions a home owner may well adhere to in picking new air conditioning gear: decide which with the devices need to be put in or replaced pick the proper devices find out the proper devices size choose if a variable speed or staged program is ideal for one's specifications find out if zoning is ideal, and lastly examine techniques.

The 1st phase is to choose if the devices need to be put in or replaced. Based mostly on the US Department of Vitality, it is time to adjust when some of the home's rooms are either also cold or also very hot the residence has excessive dust and/or humidity concerns noisy cooling program electric charges are growing and also the devices specifications restore the air conditioner at least twelve a long time previous the thermostat is left at a steady temperature and also the Vitality Star rating is under five. In some circumstances, enhancing the present system's efficiency, adding insulation, and sealing air leaks can be prescribed as an alternative of replacing the air conditioning program.

The second phase would be to select the appropriate gear. The air conditioning program must be electrical power successful to be capable to lessen the electric charges which may well continually rise due to the air conditioning approach. By picking very successful techniques, the operating fees can be diminished. Also, successful techniques have an superb effect on the atmosphere. An air conditioning approach can be rated using the SEER program. If the rating is substantial, a lot significantly less vitality is employed by the air conditioning unit. An air conditioner which is very productive utilizes 38% significantly less electrical vitality than 13 rating SEER, which is the minimum efficiency unit now. A brand new air conditioner is 62% a lot a lot more successful than a 20 12 months previous air conditioning unit. Picking a incredibly productive air conditioning unit saves funds and the atmosphere. An Vitality Star rated air conditioner can be a minimal standard.

The third phase is to size the devices which is done by a competent and knowledgeable particular person in order for it to be effectively carried out. An air conditioning contractor will be the personal that must do the sizing of the devices. To be capable to make an precise estimate, the contractor will measure the windows, floor space, ceilings, and walls to be capable to compute for the room's volume. The R-value of the home's developing components, windows, and insulation will also be assessed. The area with the distribution ducts, the problem of the insulation and joints with the seals, and the size are also portion of computing the size with the devices. The house's orientation also impacts the computation of the equipment's size.

The fourth phase is to locate out if a variable speed or staged approach is a lot more proper for the residence. Comfort and ease, even temperatures, and preserving vitality. The fifth phase is to find out if zoning is proper for the residence. To be capable to preserve, the home owner can decide the rooms which call for air conditioning. Since not all rooms will call for air conditioning, expenditures of installation can go down. Also, the electric statement will not be as substantial when all rooms have air conditioning. A programmable thermostat could also be put in to be capable to handle the temperature inside of the rooms. The sixth phase is to examine air conditioning techniques to be capable to make the appropriate alternative.

This is what insulation looks like when air drives into insulation. This is exzactly what wind washing means. When unconditioned air drives into any insulation (except spray foam) it deplete the R value!!

rolco shutter housing open (empty).

shutters are cut to width and attached to the roller. shutters slide up and down through the channel.

the shutters provide shade on hot days and privacy at night. they provide a physical barrier security system (lower insurance premiums) when they are down, as well as sound reduction from outside sources of approx. 80%. the shutters greatly reduce wind wash in cold/ windy periods as well as increases our window efficiency by approx R8 over the windows stand alone R value. our windows will be R6. so that would translate to our windows at a minimum having the same or better thermal resistance than most builders true wall values!!! that's not really fair though because they will be far better than that taking into consideration our ability, to control when we allow the free energy (passive solar) to enter the building. the inverse will also be true at night, not allowing this free (stored heat in thermal mass) energy to escape. shading-win, security-win, sound-win, thermal heat loss and gain-win. pay once and get 4 huge benefits, seems like money well spent.
