The title quotation is meant as a humorous play on words. An egg does indeed make a fragile gift. (unless hard boiled, or better still a Faberge egg !)
But it does not really address Janets thought provoking and challenging theme of 'defining beauty'.
So my serious quotation is from the landscape artist John Constable
"I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may, - light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful." John Constable
Constables quote is a bit of a 'catch all' and I dont claim to have done justice to light shade and perspective.
I was tempted to feature a 'painted lady' butterfly (see my photostream) which most people will regard as beautiful. But decided to remain with the hens egg, even though as Confucius pointed out some will not see it as beautiful.
I think it is. There are eggs with a prettier colour or pattern. But a hens egg still shows a beauty of form, and is one of natures beautiful and practical designs. Wonder and beauty are close kin.

“There is no darkness but ignorance”.
One can only hope that we do not move to the Orwellian sense of light, “to the place where there is no darkness”.

Two quotations by Thucydides, from Pericles’ Funeral Oration, are inscribed
on the retaining wall:

2017 and its quotations are over, so I've decided to treat 2018 as a blog/diary. No more looking on "Brainy Quote"... New Year was a pretty mundane day. I went to bed early on New Year's Eve and the hermit-like existence continued today. Stumbled out of bed after 11.30 (It was warm and by staying in bed, the smart meter wouldn't advance exponentially). Spent the rest of the day watching TV, deciding how to redesign my bedroom and get half the junk in my house to the tip. Finished off by baking. Rock'n'roll....stay tuned for more day to day meanderings throughout the year.
Yes, there's a story here . . . which will hopefully be forthcoming!
While quickly searching in our garage for a *prop* to help me with a project I was assembling, I reached into a rectangular glass sandbox in which, over many years, I had saved odds and ends of broken artifacts. All of a sudden I literally screamed as I had not remembered putting this ceramic puppet's broken ear into the sand! So I've been spending time putting her back together, and she's almost ready for a show! Who said one can't make something new and creative from a sow's ear!?!
In preparation for an idea I have up my sleeve, I found the following quotations of interest! Enjoy!
