Hi All & Tim
May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.
I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.
I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.
Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.
There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.
We forge the chains we wear in life.
No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.
There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.
Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.
The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.
There are loads more to choose from and I have to say I was very surprised, perhaps I should read some of his books instead of relying on BBC Childrens Dramas from my earlier years when, hard to believe I was a sprog with hopes and the occasional dream, many of which have been far exceeded in life.

Many thanks for all your hard work at Flitton Moor on Tuesday. We were slightly down on the usual numbers but it didn’t stop you getting a whole lot done! I know David was pleased with the result and in his own words:
Thanks to all those who turned out on Tuesday at Flitton Moor - you did an amazing job as always.
Re fencing: I was expecting at the very most that half of the fence would be completed - and you did 2 thirds of it. Well done. The FoFM will finish it shortly in the new year.
Thanks also to those who manned the fire - and dragged brash to it. Almost all the was cut down was burnt.
And a special mention to the 6 hardy souls who spent the morning digging nettles.

The next Tuesday task will be at Sandy Smith on the 2nd January and will be doing a bit more thinning/coppicing in the plantation near the bridge over the Flit plus maybe a few other jobs.
But there will also be a task at Maulden Heath next Thursday (28th) if anyone wishes to come along. The task will be clearing brash and regeneration in the Adder Field and, of course, having a fire; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am.

If you're living in Europe, November 30 2010 marks the last day you can send in your Kodachrome films for developing. Which is such a shame, I actually can not find any words for it. At least no words which would be quotable.
I decided to use up my last roll during last summer on a trip to London, Cornwall & Brighton. Here it is.
St Mawes, Cornwall
I was barely home this weekend. My first weekend in HK after my Taipei trip
and for those who know me (or who have traveled with me), that's saying a
lot about my current state. You see, I have a bed time and I'm pretty strict
on it as going past it has very serious consequences. And when I'm on
holidays (how very English eh, Josin?), I tell myself that bedtimes, or any
form of proper rest for that matter, are not allowed. When you paid quite
some to fly somewhere, you are there to see places, experience cultures and
eat weird food-- not to sleep until noon after a big night out. Thus, after
very single holiday, I need at least a weekend (or 2, depending on the how
strenuous the trip was-- for all that biking in China, I needed around a
month! That was bad!) to recover. But the past weekend was anything but
quiet rest.
Friday night after work was dinner with some friends then off to a night of
1 drink that got me home just a little before 5 am. I was a wreck who woke
up at 2 pm on a Saturday. After some conference calls with Grace and the
guys, we agreed to meet for some dim sum (at 4 pm! We were deluded!). But of
course, dim sum time is over so we had a good lunch (at around 5 pm, we were
all together in Kwai Fong the previous night so all those present started
our days after noon) instead. Then we wanted to do something "laid back" so
we hopped on the tram to Victoria Park and walked around a bit. After which,
we went to play a game of bowling (that, by the way, is the most complicated
process I have ever gone through just to throw a heavy ball and topple
pins-- maybe Grace will tell the story in her blog, I feel exhausted just
thinking about it!). We called it a night around 11 pm after a good
Vietnamese dinner.
Now, on to the highest point (literally and figuratively -with a tang of
sarcasm- *peace Kian!*) of my weekend. Kian organized/planned this trailing
(it was more climbing than trailing, really) activity up 495 meters to see
the amazing view from the Lion's Rock somewhere in the New Territories. He
was assuring everyone that it's an easy trail. I read in the Lonely Planet
that there are easy parts and hard parts but Master Kian said we'll only do
the easy parts and we believed him like blind ducks. Hehe. So off we went.
We started around 1:30 pm for what we expected to be an hour to 2 hours of
easy walking. Okay, easy was far from it. We were climbing the steep
mountain holding on to barks and ropes for dear life (well, that last bit
was an exaggeration but really, it WAS NOT EASY!). We were all sweating like
pigs under the scorching heat of the sun which couldn't have been said
better when Yurgo the Greek said, "we chose the perfect time for hiking."
Haha! We stopped a couple of times for rest as some of us felt like one more
step is just asking a little too much from our already exhausted legs. There
were a couple of spots that were so temptingly comfortable (sitting on a
rock under the shade of a tree with the cool breeze on your face) but we had
to go on. As Marcos (another Greek, they have this penchant for quotable
quotes) put it, "we are not the meek ones to stop mid-way"--or something to
that tune, I was too tired to remember his exact words. Haha! After a little
more leg-abuse, we got there. We made it!
495 meters up is definitely a better view of Hong Kong. If going up is too
much work (it is, believe me and save your legs!), I took some photos from
up there. Beautiful eh? It should be, I woke up with the most sore legs in
the world this morning and I guess, for the rest of the week.

I've been on a bit of a tea trip lately. The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lagos on 18 July 2017 took the observance of the Nelson Mandela International Day to two cities in South West Nigeria. Two events were held at Freedom Park Lagos and St. Louis Girls Grammar School, Mokola Ibadan, Oyo State, reaching over 640 people comprising of students, NGOs and media. Life Is Punctuation.
When you work with words all day (and who doesn’t, really?), it’s easy to believe life’s story happens entirely in the words.
After all, the plot of life is driven by verbs banging about, bouncing off nouns and pronouns in sometimes complicated ways, with a (hopefully) tasteful dash of adverbs and adjectives along the way.
Not too many words, but we pray not too few.
But unless your life is haltingly narrated by Christopher Walken or William Shatner—or brilliantly spoken aloud by Victor Borge—the equilibrium, pauses, and signifiers of punctuation often slip by, unpronounced, unmentioned, and unnoticed.
The story of a life needs punctuation to make sense of it. We need the bangs of surprise, the quiet ellipses of reflection and grief, the joyful dashes of interruption, the question-marks heralding change and learning, the serial commas of brief pauses, and the bullets of to-do lists.
We need the parenthetical asides, the editorializing brackets, and knowing what was said—and left unsaid—between the quote marks. (Heaven help us when we omit the “scare quotes” of sarcasm!)
Life is more than the words on our page, it is also very much found in the punctuation.
May every day begin with a question mark and end with a full stop and be filled with punctuations of surprise, love, joy, kindness, righteous anger, and even verb-less silence now and again.

I've been attending Body Balance classes for a month now. Doing tai-chi, yoga, balance, Pilates and meditation exercises 3-4x a week gives me joy and fulfillment.

Easily one of the most quotable people I know, Lisa's brain functions in a way unlike any other. I am positive that if the medical community was made aware, they would wish to conduct some scans.
Two-thirds of this triptych were from a little hidden beach about twenty minutes walk from the UVic campus. Last I counted, that's three beaches within easy walking distance. Absolutely in love with this part of the country. Although, technically my phone kept telling me that I was in the United States.

Hi All & Tim
May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.
I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .

Many thanks for all your hard work at Flitton Moor on Tuesday. We were slightly down on the usual numbers but it didn’t stop you getting a whole lot done! I know David was pleased with the result and in his own words:

Re fencing: I was expecting at the very most that half of the fence would be completed - and you did 2 thirds of it. Well done. The FoFM will finish it shortly in the new year.
Thanks also to those who manned the fire - and dragged brash to it. Almost all the was cut down was burnt.
And a special mention to the 6 hardy souls who spent the morning digging nettles.

The next Tuesday task will be at Sandy Smith on the 2nd January and will be doing a bit more thinning/coppicing in the plantation near the bridge over the Flit plus maybe a few other jobs.
But there will also be a task at Maulden Heath next Thursday (28th) if anyone wishes to come along. The task will be clearing brash and regeneration in the Adder Field and, of course, having a fire; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am.

from one of my all time favorite Replacement songs, "I'll be you" (Paul Westerberg is eminently quotable). for some reason, when I heard this song come up on my morning playlist, I realized that this is where feel like I've been this week. I keep feeling like I don't have much more in me...like I'm a temporary lull. I keep waking up with a blank slate in my head. then, just as I began to feel the pressure of the ticking clock, it occurred to me that I could try being someone else. instead of a "self" portrait, I would do a portrait of someone else...that someone just happens to be me being someone else. get it?
