LONG LIVE OUR STRUGGLE FOR BETTER CAMPUS FACILITIES .

NSUI is pleased to inform the JNU community that the Congress government of Delhi has met several longstanding demands regardinrJ the transport facility for the campus. Following a signature campaign on campus -in which 1600 students enthusiastically participated-a delegation of NSUI activists met the transport minister Ajay Maken on 8-10-2002. The .
delegation comprised of Chandan Kumar, Prem Chand, Madhumita Chakravorty, Alimullah Khan, Sudhakar Badigar, Duryodhan, Mayur Shekhar Jha and Anand Pandey. The minister was responsive to the demands raised by the delegation and the following decisions were immediately taken. It is noteworthy that very recently, the Delhi goverhment had acted on an NSUI petition to start a computerised bus pass counter in the campus. .
A) A new route no 507 (Okhla ~ Purvanchal Hostel) will start from 11-10-2002, Friday. B) Officers have been instructed to ensure regular and punctual operation of 615, 621 and 666. C) The Secretary, State Transport Authority has been instructed to ensure that private buses plying in route numbers 615 and 621 do not overcharge. .
NSUI congratulates the students for supporting the campaign and the Delhi government for being responsive to the concerns of the students of JNU. .
It must be remembered that the SFI was trying to sabotage the signature campaign organised by the NSUI. Having done nothing to resolve the long-standing transport problems of JNU, the SFI was getting jittery over the achievements of NSUI. It is evident from the utterances of SFI-JNUSU office bearers. We request the student community to take note of the following quotable quotes from SF/'s JNUSU President and Vice-President respectively, referring to the screening of a few films last week by the NSUI and Nehru Discussion Forum. .
"We will not allow such things (film shows) to happen in this campus," s.?ys SFI's JNUSU President. "We will take you to court on charges of violating copy right laws," says SFI's JNUSU vice-president. .
Now that is the difference. We try to solve the transport problem, SFI requests students not to cooperate with the NSUI. We organise some affordable entertainment for the students; they threaten to sue us~!! Friends, you decide which side are you in this divide. .
Friends, the JNUSU has decided to handover charge to the Election Committee tonight itself without holding the final council meeting in which accounts of the past year should be presented. This is in direct contravention o the .JNUSU constitution and exposes SFI's hidden agenda in trying to manipulate the dates of the forthcoming .JNUSU elections. As known to every student in the campus, SFI would want the election to be held between 30th October and 1st November, 2002. The dates of the elections should be decided by the Election Committe~not in the Executive Council of the SFI. .
