This huipil which dates from the decade of the 1920's was exhibited at the Museo Textil de Oaxaca in a show devoted to textiles dyed using cochineal, indigo and/or Purpura pansa (caracol; tixinda). The lavender colored thread on this huipil was colored using Purpura
The Museo Textil de Oaxaca recently ended its wonderful exhibition of rebozos. This rebozo from Quetzaltenango, Guatemala was on display at the museum

This Guatemalan huipil comes from Quetzaltenango. The light purple thread was colored using Purpura pansa (caracol), the juices of a marine mollusc. Museo Textil de Oaxaca
