question

Well... lately I've been at a loss to make minifigure wise. I have a really great Bionicle planned, so yeah. Tell me in the comments what I should make!

I'm uploading this time lapse video of Sex Peak Lookout in Montana because I haven't been able to figure out what the tiny white dot is that shows up at about 7 seconds into the clip and then doesn't move until it disappears in the last few frames. It's located near the center of the screen. Jupiter (brightest object in the sky) passes by close to it. I thought it might just be light refracting off the lens, but I've never noticed a refraction like that before. If you have any theories let me know. Thanks!

Taken with a Nikon D850 camera using a Nikkor AF-S 14-24 lens looking southeast at around 9pm to midnight. Frame rate is 1 photo every 5 seconds. September 27, 2022.

È stato solo un attimo, un attimo in cui non si pensa altro che imbracciare la macchina fotografica e scattare, un attimo in cui la luce si affaccia sulla terrazza immobile, un attimo di contemplazione impresso in eterno.

What's your favorite Christmas candy?

While waiting in line at McDonalds for our Mocha Frappas, I noticed the reflection of our car in the back hatch of the Jeep ahead of us. I've taken thousands of photos of cars at car shows and almost all of them have reflections to be dealt with one way or another. But I don't recall ever seeing one upside down like this. Maybe there's a simple explanation but I can't figure it out. Can someone tell me how this happens? Or is this just another strange 2020 thing?

This is a photo of three comets: C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE), C/2019 U6 (Lemmon), and C/2017 T2 (PANSTARRS). Here's the story of how this photo came to be...

I received an interesting question from my neighbor regarding Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) and a Meteor after I posted it to Flickr four weeks ago: Have you ever seen two comets in the same photo?

I couldn't remember ever seeing a photo like this, but I filed the idea away. Interestingliny, when Comet NEOWISE came up in conversation with some astronomy friends over the weekend, someone mentioned that another comet might be close enough to it to capture in the same frame. I checked Stellarium and found not just one nearby comet, but two comets that could be captured in the same frame with NEOWISE.

I also noted that the comets were spread out over about a 10 degree span, and that I would be able to contain them within a single frame using my Canon EOS 60Da with a 55mm lens. I had the great fortune to be able to use Arcturus and Muphrid in Bootes to help get my camera on target.

Getting the image that I wanted required that I stretch my processing skills, but somehow I managed. Not only was I able to see the two dim comets, I cross checked against Stellarium to verify that the two green blobs were indeed Lemmon and PANSTARRS.

That same Saturday evening one of Howard Astronomical League's dark observing sites was opened for its members, and I went out on my first attempt to image the three comets. I set up with my camera mounted on a Omegon LX2 Mini (mechanical wind up) tracker. I had not used this device for some time, so I found myself fumbling with it way too long. By the time I was polar aligned, had the target framed, and decided on the exposure, I was exactly one hour later than I had hoped to start imaging. By then the comets were very low, and ground fog had started to appear. I did not have a dew heater for the camera lens, so it was completely overwhelmed by moisture.

I could see NEOWISE in my unprocessed images on my dewy laptop screen, and I was able to verify that I was capturing the star field that contained the other two comets. Even though I could not see the comets in these images, I was hopeful that I would be able to pull them out in post-processing. But try as I might in the clear light of day, I got nuthin!

Amazingly, we had another lucky break in the clouds, and the site was opened again on Sunday night. I added a battery and dew heater to my pack up, and headed out again. Equally as important, I spent some time reacquainting myself with the tracker in the clear light of day. It was another very moist evening, but not nearly as challenging at the night before. I was able get up and running to start shooting sub-frames as soon as it was dark enough, and I could see that my data quality was much higher than the first time out. I couldn't see the other two comets, but I saw enough stars that I was pretty sure that I could pull the other two comets out in post processing.

Besides the obvious breakthrough in capturing three comets in the same image, this is the first time that I have produced a star field any where close to as rich and star-filled as this one. My second place effort doesn't even come close. I must add that I am pretty impressed with the tracker. Of 50 sub-frames that I shot, I threw away only one for a tracking issue. Not bad for a low-tech wind up device?!! I'll be sure to set this device up again before I forget how to use it.

Canon EOS 60Da with 50mm lens at f/2.8, and mounted on a Omegon LX2 Mini Tracker. Twenty minutes total integration time in 47 x 25 second light frames (nearly 20 minutes total integration time). Calibration frames consisted of 25 dark frames, 25 flat frames, and 25 flat dark frames. Light frames and calibration frames were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker, and post-processing was done in Photoshop.

One question ... 2 answers , infinite viewpoints !. Is it art ?

Or is this FHING ART ? for those who appreciate anagrams and old money !

For reference - area in picture approximately 10mm ( 1cm ) width.

In this instance to get this close I used a Miranda 35-70 fitted back to front via reversing ring to triple extension tubes. Shot at f22. I used liveview and a macro slider to make focussing easier - though with these longer exposures I really do need to think about finding a more solid base to put the objects on than my coffee table ! I could also consider using flash !

Week 8, Wednesday

Before I began to understand anything about my own photography, I used to look inspiration from other peoples work. It's easy to trap yourself with an idea that you need to find your own photographic character from world outside. With a click of a mouse one can browse all kinds of photographs of different ideas, characters and styles; and have so overflowing possibilities that it actually just introduces insecurity. They don't feel home, because they don't come inside you. The only way to overcome this is to pay attention to your own photography and start asking questions.

It is interesting to try to understand why we take such photographs as we do. I believe everyone has prominent photographic or other visual experiences from their youth that defines their taste and photographic eye. Maybe they relate to vivid photographic experiences, maybe they come from TV and movies, or they might be related to artistic black&white photographs, record covers or war propaganda pictures in history textbooks that you saw when you were young. Maybe you had friends who introduced you to photography. Or it was your parents. Maybe it's photographs from your personal past that convey hidden meanings to you. It can be anything really, and of all photographs you've seen in your youth, you only remember particular ones which have some meaning to you and which have stratified into your visual memory. I believe these kind of experiences also define, to some extent, your way of seeing things and world through photography – your photographic eye, which also makes you somebody with meaningful visual past and not just anybody. It would be shame to leave these visual influences untouched and one of my goals regarding this photo blog is to lure my own influences forward by taking photographs that feel like me. So, for every photograph that I'm somehow satisfied, I ask same questions: why did I take this particular photograph and not something else? What's in there? What does it say about my visual past and influences? Is it me or someone else? Needless to say, there is much more questions than there are clear answers.

My wife found this winter form question mark sheltering in our back yard.

But it isn’t over.

My armour damaged, my nose bleeds....yet I still stand firmly. Friends around me may have fallen, but I feel the electricity surging through my veins.

Then Igarashi stands up as well, his face heavily scarred. He tries to use his “powers” on me, but he fails to do so when I’ve finally got a hold—as I shock him right on the spot. It's over for him. Connor, covered in dust and grime, rises but behind him, knocking Igarashi on his feet.

Now the student looms over his defeated sensei, huh, well played. I couldn’t be more glad to see him alive, my older brother. He was holding a staff, despite the rough, scarred edges, in his left hand, and the katana on his right. Even if I can't see through his mask, I could picture how his eyes would look like, being ready to execute him right away.

Connor: “This is over, Igarashi. You’ve used up your powers, and it’s out of your reach for the katana to be understood. This is a relic to be respected. Worse yet, you lied to us far too long. You have committed so much heinous crimes for too long. Ambition for power and all that... ”

Igarashi: “Yes—-young one.....yes! I conspired against you....because possessing the sword meant I would ascend to the highest rank of the crime families! I wanted more power....the ability of a superhuman.....but you had to stop me! You have given yourself to the cause of your family and friends more than us!”

Connor: “Unfortunately you misused it, and that’s not how it works. Abusing the greatest thing the guild ever stood for: honour. I’m sorry, but you’re going to—“

Igarashi: “Die?! Fine, go ahead and kill me! Do not forget who trained you? Who raised you to become the man today?!”

Oddcrow: “Wait! Cease your fighting at one! Dusksmoke, you’re not going to kill your sensei! I only did my part to protect you....I thought sacrifice was a way out.”

Connor: “Yes. But I’m holding back. People like him don’t deserve death like this, despite the actions he’s done. But he did have a hand in raising me. I guess I’m going to call it fair. In fact, you’re the one to make a choice. Because you’re going to be the next leader. You were my sensei after all. This isn’t a matter of his nationality or race, but I believe you have potential and true leadership. My fellow guild, would you agree?”

Assassins: “Yes. We vote in favour. He....is our new leader.”

Oddcrow: “Alright. He’ll be exiled. To an island where he will be spending the rest of his life. Take him away.”

Igarashi: "Wait--no, you can't do this! You will regret this! I will come back! I will have more power, and I will wield the katana however I see fit! Dusksmoke, you will pay!"

Connor: "No, you won't. I'll make you won't see the light of day if you try to ever make a return. Your last days and fate will be a collective judgement. Send him off, please."

***

Oddcrow: “Well, I guess this isn’t too bad after all, from a schoolteacher to a guild master....”

Dustsmmoke: “Nah, it’s good. You ever seen a cybernetic warrior going around doing stuff? That’s what I did....I saved children. From the Spectres.”

Oddcrow: “All these years, we were mistaken on the wars from the outsiders. However with Connor’s faith, he managed to bring us together. To shape a better guild. Because we’re not killers, exactly.”

Ty: “That’s honourable.”

Erin: “Yes. And will his old classmates and best friends, I can't wait for our big reunion”

Ty: “Glad to know you’ve got my back, like Avalon does.”

Sam: “This is where we’re leaving off, are we? To save the day again!”

Edens: "Well, I can't exactly leave you hanging at the end of every mission like that, fill the paperworks and---

Riley/Jesse: “C’mon Doc, at least give us the holiday back!”

Edens: “Right, right....vacation continues. No disruptions. Only if it's emergency. Two weeks, sound good?”

Kieran: “Let’s call for a celebration. Let's cheer ”

Oddcrow: “You are granted an extended stay in Japan. Go anywhere you want, how about that too? For Avalon, you are deemed worthy and you can come whenever you please. You have gained our trust. We are in your debt and would be gladly to call you allies.”

Edens: "For sure, we have your word. Now we gotta...clean up a bit before alerting the agency."

Harry: "Well, least to say I'm done killin' anyone for the night."

***2 days later, at Edens' Japanese penthouse:***

Ty: “Maybe I could take a look at the ancestry books, considering I’ve got my heritage here.”

Erin: “I’m sure you’ll love finding them here, Shiro.”

Ty: “Since when did you start calling me that again? Oh, and yeah, maybe I could bring gran and mom here one day...maybe even my sister.”

Erin: “Sure, family’s fun. I don’t know. Maybe since the first day? I had a big crush on you when we got to elementary. I think's it's cute.”

Ty: “That’s....makes sense. I knew I laid eyes on you since we met. I love you, Erinbug.”

Erin: “I love you, too, Ty.”

Connor: “Ahem, good chemistry, you two. I knew that’s why I aced every test in science class. Sensed it in the air around me. Couldn’t hold back before you wanna kiss, cuz I had to bring the gang back together like a glue.”

Erin: "I remember how you liked me for a while before it ended up a wingman for him."

Connor: "I was very helpful wasn't I? Crush turned into one of the best friendship. I helped you get notes for him. You know, just anything to impress. Ty, I helped both of you. Give me some credit."

Ty: “Very funny. You sound just like your brother.”

Jesse: “Well, Arden genes, hermano! Except for the fact when the other team’s gone around town. Gary and the ladies are going crazy at shopping, man.”

Edens: “Well, it seems like this is definitely elementary reunion after all. I got a question stuck in my head since then....have you actually considered it yet, Dusksmoke? On our offer?”

Connor: “Oh, on that? l’ve thought it through. Oddcrow’s a better leader than I am. Though for me, I could work solo even if there’s nowhere to go....and my friend’s still in hospital.”

Jesse: “We’ve got a spot up for you if you need it.”

Sam: “Could always lend a hand in Japanese weapon mastery and those herbs of yours, so I can work on medical stuff with Kurt and co.”

Connor: “Hmm, that’d be interesting.”

Ty: “You’ve proven yourself too, earned a worthy spot. Avalon deserves a sixth member just like Gamma....turns out it might be you now, Connor. Which makes you 11, sort of.”

Connor: “I’m game. This is might fight now, since guild stuff is gonna have to reform and change in time. Guess I do have a lot to catch up in what you guys do, eh? Wait, is that Agent Khattar?”

Khattar: “In the flesh, agents. I’m sorry if I’m interrupting a nice reunion, but I’m here to announce I’m officially in on the Paladin stuff.”

Edens: “Just before you all get surprised, Navin’s now a partner with Paladin. He might belong to Interpol, but we secretly had an agreement to benefit conditions on our terms. Again, I'm sh*t at keeping it secret.”

Harry: “Though the boards would never agree...I’ll still play it through. Cheers.”

Khattar: “Cheers to you too. I’m sure it is going to be fine, a promise is a promise—-it’ll be confidential. I trust all of you given your defense in Tokyo and the countries you hopped on fighting. But as I suspected, that there are bigger hands behind what we’re looking at. They might be planning something....and your business friend is in danger.”

Edens: “Mason? He’s doing fine....but he’s been strange as always.”

Khattar: “Then you’ll have to keep an eye on him. For now, I will leave you guys be. Have fun! And also, Dusksmoke, your friend is doing alive and well. Go check up on her when you have the time.”

***

Board member: “And he’s officiated? Wonderful. For this event, I will not hold regard or remorse, but you should have let us know, Remus."

Edens: “Yes. Dusksmoke was always one of ours. He’s been playing the mole this whole time.

Raze: “Pfft, fine. You have it off easy this time since it's the Paladin council deciding together. But I will not tolerate your secrets being kept from us, privately and personally as a high ranking official. There will be no next times. You know what the

consequences, don’t you Avalon?”

Ty: “Of course. I’m proud to lead this team, ma'am.”

Raze: “And the Interpol agent....he’s an ally too?”

Erin: “Precisely.”

Raze: “What about the sword?”

Harry: “In the care of the guild. We know who the White Ninja is....will send in the details later.”

Sam: “But yes, allow us to have this holiday first....the job can come in for a bit.”

Raze: “Approved. You are now dismissed. Raze and council out.”

Once we disconnected with the leaders, we were left to our own. What a relief. There’s so much questions to ask. So much answers to be sought—-which means there are deep mysteries yet are unsolved.

I know it isn’t over yet, but I’m glad that I’ve found my brother, who I deeply miss, a boyfriend who I truly love, and my friends getting together, at full circle. The experiences of saving lives have never been better.

But I can always assure to the world, that Paladin is needed, no matter what cost or conflict there is....

We’ll be there.

To answer all the questions:

This is actually a mangrove seed tree found washed ashore. Mangrove seed tree is very independent and has self-surviving mechanism. Once it drops itself from the mother tree branches, it will straight away stick itself vertically in the shallow seabed in mangrove population.

Probably this seed tree has been washed away from its original location due to strong current/high tide. I thought this seed tree would be a great conceptual photography. After I took this shot, I throw it away in the sea and I believe it will find its way and survives.

I started uni today. It was awesome! I love my classes and the atmosphere.

But I also found out Shepard Fairey may be going to jail for lying to the court about trying to get rid of evidence for the Obama hope poster. This is all going to sound very childlike and uninformed coming from me but having to go to jail for lying about using a photo? What a complete waste. He has a family, he inspires so many and does actual good to the world. But instead he's being potentially punished with a 6 month jail sentence. It really makes you wonder what the point of a lot of things is.

These letters are from a art project I did about 2 years ago inspired by Barbara Kruger. They felt about street art-ish so here's my photo for the day.

Lady Knox Geyser is a joke

We really questioned before we went how the Geyser would go off every day at 10:15 am, but figured they would not make that up. When you get to the Wonderland Park, you have to go to the main building and get your ticket. Then you have to drive to where the Geyser is. We all entered an area where there were seats and the first thing we noticed was this little Teepee looking thing that looked like it was made out of paper mache. At about 10:20, the guy who was directing traffic in the parking lot came out with a bag of stuff. He gave a short talk and then dumped the bag into the mouth of the Geyser. Like a cheap high school lab experiment, the Geyser went off for about 2 minutes and shot about 20 feet in the air. That was it, the whole show.

Are there any barbie competitions open for auditions? I could not find a Barbie photo so I just found this.

The Question, in Minifigure form. To be honest, I’ve not seen (Or can I recall seeing if in fact I did) a minifigure version of the Question. I’ve seen some decal type ones, but never a purist one. Regardless, I made this one!

I plan on having Question appearing in my Task Force X side stories in a bit. So look out for him and his crazy interconnecting theories.
