Ketam Quarry, also known as Aik Hwa Quarry, is a disused quarry located in western Pulau Ubin. Ketam Quarry produced up to 160 to 180 tonnes of granite per month at its peak in the 1990s.
Before its 1999 closure, Ketam Quarry employed more than 100 workers and supplied 30 to 40% of mainland Singapore's granite requirements.

A picturesque picnic spot in a former granite quarry next to Haytor rocks. Although tucked away this is a best known secret to many so it's pretty much impossible to enjoy some alone time there but it is a joy to pass along hiking tracks in the area, especially with the heather in bloom.
Yesterdays sunrise at Quarry Lake. I waited and waited and I was treated to a glimpse of red. It was a great way to start the day.

To the right, on the quarry floor, the blasted and excavated stone can be seen being fed into the (remarkably small) crushers before being fed on to graders which seperate the various sizes and deposit them into small piles on the ground. These are then shovelled into dump trucks which will wind their way up to the relevant drop point. For the railway bound grades this point is on the left of the shot, the trucks reaching this point via a tunnel under the line. The stone is then loaded on to the railway wagons either via the conveyor fed loader or, in this case, using shovels.

Standing at the edge of the quarry looking down into the entrance of the Hydro Electric Power station I was rewarded with a fleeting bit of light which came through a tiny gap in the clouds just a few minutes before sunset.
Another from a recent wander up at Hadrian's Wall. Never realised that the company that quarried here demolished a large section of the wall to extract stone for commercial purposes, should never have been allowed to happen!
