Fast Friday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of the most anticipated days of the Month of May, and the 2026 edition delivered massive speed as teams prepared for qualifying weekend. With turbo boost increased to qualifying levels, the Dallara IR‑18 machines unleashed their full potential during mock qualifying runs, producing the fastest laps of the week so far.

According to the official Practice 4 results, Felix Rosenqvist topped the charts with a blistering 38.5650‑second lap at 233.372 mph, the fastest lap of the month and a clear statement heading into qualifying. Alexander Rossi followed closely with a 232.932 mph run, while Scott McLaughlin, Takuma Sato, and Marcus Ericsson all broke into the 232 mph bracket as well.

The top ten was stacked with speed: Alex Palou, Ed Carpenter, Pato O’Ward, Rinus VeeKay, and Nolan Siegel all posted laps above 232 mph, showing how tight the field is in qualifying trim. Even deeper in the order, drivers like Christian Rasmussen, Scott Dixon, Conor Daly, Will Power, and Jack Harvey were all within striking distance.

Fast Friday is where teams finalize their qualifying aero configurations, practice four‑lap averages, and simulate the pressure of the real qualifying runs. With only 836 total laps turned in the session, teams focused on precision rather than volume — short runs, clean air, and maximum speed.

These photos capture the raw intensity of Fast Friday: trimmed‑out wings, boosted engines, and the fastest speeds of the Month of May as the field prepares for the battle for the Indianapolis 500 pole.
