I don't seem to have any other photos of this train so I must have caught it just as it arrived in Sherbrooke. I didn't take a lot of photos of Canadian-American's F40 rebuilts and this is certainly the only time I saw five on one train.
I made it back to Maine a few times during the Iron Road years, I interviewed for a job with them and was offered same, but during the interview the senior management team couldn't or wouldn't answer critical questions, so I declined the offer and have never looked back. Those years were corporate crime at its best IMHO.
This excellent GE builder's photo comes from the amazing ETH Zurich online library. ba.e-pics.ethz.ch/catalog/ETHBIB.Bildarchiv/r/102959/view...
Built 1940-1948, 37 Examples, 15 for the EFCB (Nrs. 2101-2115) and 22 for the Paulista Railway Company, also in Brazil. Electric broad gauge locomotive with 2-C+C-2 wheel arrangement. Oblique side view showing operator, for the Central Railway of Brazil (no. 2101), filing no. 9575, E318.31
I've seen a 1947 photo with this exact sign at this exact same intersection. Speed Avenue does not refer to velocity. It refers to a famous local family (Think of Abraham Lincoln's best friend Joshua Fry Speed whose family was from Louisville.)
Some franchised businesses can be sold for a gain to someone who the franchisor has approved. Yeah! Franchisors can be helpful in finding business buyers, especially since they are the only gateway in which a business buyer can be approved.
Some franchising firms do not allow you to sell the business.
Some franchises are sold for mere pennies on your invested dollar to a new franchisee approved by the franchisor, which receives franchise license fees again from the new buyer. Sigh. An unprofitable unit to a franchisee can be profitable for the franchisor, which can have it sold and receive buying fees from a new buyer–yet again for each time the outlet is bought. The troubled outlet remains and looks rock solid to consumers on the outside but internally the franchisee ownership changes again and again. Consumers sometimes might see a sign in between new business owners of the franchised outlet that says, "new management" as if the new business owners were new employees (managers).
Other franchises are shuttered at a complete loss.
My Egill, checking out and old car in the Transport Museum at Ystafell.
Outside the museum is a "car-cemetery". My boys loved it :)

Where Gentle Breezes Blow
"Grundarfjörður is a growing community on the fjord Breiðafjörður near the midpoint of the northern coast of Snæfellsness peninsula. The site is characterized by a unique climate and unusually beautiful surroundings. Fishing is the chief industry in Grundarfjörður, half of the town's working population being employed in this sector, although other services and industry are growing as well. The town is considered unusually beautiful and well-kept and has received several awards for its neat appearance".
CCWeek24: Breaking the Rules (Add a human)
No human added today! But WHAT IF I could somehow get a model up there to stare at the camera? Lying on her side in a red dress on top of that yellow sign. Maybe the niece of nephew Lee. I wonder if she looks good. She's probably pretty old. Maybe put wings on her. Hmm. I would need insurance. She could fall off.
While I waited, my mind drifted to Stephen Hawking's book Black Holes and Baby Universes. Wild ideas. I looked down and visualized those concepts. It was only natural that I wanted to know what was on the other side of that black hole. I could see hints of something glistening just on the red edge of that singularity.
What was it?
Sip.
Oh, orange soda, of course. I just dispensed it from the soda fountain into my cup a few minutes ago. Duh!
As I ate delicious chicken fingers I looked up at the portrait on the wall and recognized the face. John Christopher Depp II was born in Owensboro, Kentucky. There were other Kentucky connections too. As he hit stardom in Los Angeles, Depp was a fan and friend of writer and Louisvillan Hunter S. Thomas. Depp acted in the film adaptation of Thomas’ book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
The Wendy's Company HQ
Dave was the founder of the burger chain and franchising firm. His daughter Wendy grew up to be quite a businesswoman and franchisee.
Scanned from a color negative, a grab shot on a ski trip to Magog. My first photo of the very few I took of Montreal Maine & Atlantic.
When it rolled out its grilled chicken, marketers at Yum Brands decided to stop calling the quick service restaurant chain fried, Kentucky, or even chicken. The world famous chicken chain would try to fence off its territory from newcomers by using its acronym, KFC. Competition from other chicken chains such as Popeyes with its newly added “Louisiana Grill” name, Bojangle’s, Raising Cain’s, Zaxby’s, and Chick-Fil-A was sizzling. Restaurants serving buffalo wings were hot too. Besides quick service, fast casual and casual dining restaurant chains that specialized in chicken would compete for their share of the belly.
