Castro's is a small bar, but popular with east-end crowd. 'The Reverend' is not a great singer or a mesmerizing trumpet player. He is fun, has charisma and showmanship. His band is excellent. They play for the tip jar and when people have fun, they are generous.
The Sunday Blues was very joyful with the help of Mike Sedgewick (guitar), Mark Ansara (drums) and bass player Justin Snikkar and Walter on vocals and trumpet. Paul Renaud (harp) and Janet Christie (violin) guesting on few tunes. Castro's is around for over 35 year, the historic photos (over 200) on the wall feature Lenin, Marx, Che, Ghandi, Churchil, but not Putin yet. Of course Fidel is on few of them.

Andrey Kurkov: “This war will last as long as Putin is alive”
www.newstatesman.com/podcasts/world-review-podcast/2022/0...
It's a current screen shot, it's not a picture of me, but you have to take a stand against Putin! It's not against Russia, it's a beautiful country like any other country in the world. It is Putin who is putting his own people in this unspeakable situation. Putin's greatest enemy is not NATO but individual freedom and self-determination, which a dictator fears like the devil fears holy water.
I wonder, if we live on a planet with so many resources for everyone, why do some always want more and more? I wonder if in prehistory there was already this political polarization, if we lived like animals, devouring each other. Or if developing this absurd capacity for aggression while we imagined that we were evolving.
Mona Lisa, as everyone knows, is the work of the genius Leonardo. I've been using Mona as a poster girl for comunicate the most varied ideas. This last one is a protest against the ignorance of Wladimir, a being with a crocodile brain, a threat to life. Demonstrating how much his insecurity is capable of destroying under the effect of fear and force, this way Putin lives.
Unfortunately, on our planet, a Leonardo is born, while we have an infinity of Putins. Looking inward, I perceive something of Putin within myself. We have to turn Putin into Leonardo. This is the goal of what we call evolution. It's nothing easy. But you already knew that, didn't you?

but switch off your smartphone, off for such hours, otherwise Mr Putin and his war against Ukraine comes back into your brain and soul...

A message for Putin. Please listen. John Lennon may have been a dreamer and his dreams may not have been possible but his heart sure was in the right place.

I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this song by Lennon. It moved me deeply then and it does today as well, maybe even deeper.
comments off on purpose . . . well, I thought they were anyway.

I'll check the next doll layer next time. He's got to be down there somewhere. And yes, I know, I accidentally flipped the image, I actually like it this way. You'll get over it, you will see.

On Feb. 24, 2022 Russia under Vladmir Putin declared an unprovoked war on Ukraine and launched a full-scale invasion. Russia is currently bombing peaceful Ukrainian cities, including schools and hospitals and attacking civilians who are fleeing conflict zones. During the first week of the war, more than 1 million refugees have been forced to flee Ukraine and the situation for civilians is rapidly deteriorating. Ukraine and its people urgently need your help.

The Faces of Putin.
I spent the last week travelling through Moldova and Ukraine so I've got some interesting shots to share. This was inside a restaurant called Propaganda in Chisinau, Moldova.

At Place du Canada on Boul. René-Lévesque in Montreal, there was a great crowd present, protesting the invasion of the Ukraine. So many flags around the city today.
I am hopeful that Putin gets whacked real soon.
It's been said that Canada claims the highest number of ex-pat Ukrainians.
I've always said, " We should never think the unthinkable can't happen". For those of us in this part of the world that often means never thinking it won't rain today, but elsewhere I mean such as, "Never believe the sun might not rise tomorrow", or that the Earth won't spin off its axis into Outer Space, or a war like the First or Second World War will never happen in Europe again.
Today I don't think the Ukrainians care whether the sun rises tomorrow or not. They have more important things on their minds. I wish other people in this country had had more serious matters on their minds recently. Instead of caring about cake and parties, they should have worried about a lunatic with the same ambitions as Hitler, who did not care if he started World War 3 by invading a peaceful, democratic 'European' nation. Those people who were more bothered about cake and parties will have given encouragement to Putin, that no one was that bothered. Russia has been meddling to undermine western democracy for ages, corrupting elections, the media and internet with lies and misinformation. We live in dangerous times even without Covid (now where did that come from?) and China is not far behind Russia in fighting for world domination.
Twice Britain was at the forefront of restoring freedom to Europe. The EU has played a big part of getting us into this mess with Russia. Indeed the EU was set up to try to prevent war in Europe again. I dread the day we have to show them again that democracy and freedom is better than dictatorship.
I hope Ukraine manages to fight off the aggressors. And that Putin is condemned forever and consigned to the human dustbin of infamy with Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, etc

Russia has launched a devastating attack on Ukraine, a European democracy of 44 million people, bombarding its cities and closing in on the capital, Kyiv, prompting a mass exodus of refugees.
