This watch tower is sitting next to a power substation. I don’t know it’s purpose. It certainly wouldn’t be to look for fires in the middle of farm land and a couple of miles from the river.

Ken is a German Pointer who lives the life of Riley at Bonsi a lovely estate in Tuscany. His owner is one of the sons of a great friend of my sister-in-law's.
The German Shorthaired Pointer is a breed of medium-sized pointing dog developed in nineteenth century Germany. It is energetic and powerful, with strong legs and great endurance. It is a versatile all-purpose gun dog suitable for hunting and retrieving on both land and water, with a strong drive to find and chase game. It may also be kept as a companion dog, though as a high-energy sporting dog, it requires significant amounts of exercise.
German Shorthaired Pointers have a short coat that comes in various combinations, generally a mix of liver and white. They have moderately long floppy ears set high on the head. Longer, broad, and strong, muzzles allow retrieval of heavier game. The dog's profile should be straight or strongly Roman nosed; any dished appearance to the profile is incorrect according to breed standards. Their eyes are generally brown, with darker ones being desirable; yellow or "bird of prey" eyes are a fault. The tail is commonly docked, although that is now prohibited in some countries. In competition, they are penalized if the tail is curved either up or down while the dog is moving. When the GSP is in classic point stance, the tail should be held straight out from the body, forming a line with the pointing head and body. Like all German pointers, GSPs have webbed feet, and are known for going after waterfowl in the water.

The Great West Window was completed by 1340. The window, which is nicknamed ‘the Heart of Yorkshire’ due to the shape of its upper stonework, illustrates the authority and purpose of the Church. Other notable features in the Nave include the statues which line the triforium, many of which are missing their heads after they were damaged during the Reformation in the 16th century.

Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, Colorado, USA
My wife Fran and I, recently spent 9 days in Colorado, primarily photographing the deer rut. The first 2 days there it snowed 16 inches. It was a ton of fun and a wonderful experience. The largest terrestrial animals in North America, bison are characterized by a hump over the front shoulders and slimmer hindquarters. Both male and female bison have a single set of short, sharply pointed, hollow horns.

The Elite, or Lotus Type 14, was the first purpose-designed road coupe from the innovative mind of Colin Chapman, founder of Lotus Cars (1952). This endeavor followed his open Six and Seven roadsters and a series of very successful sports racers, starting with his first fully enclosed aerodynamic 1954 Lotus Mk VIII.
Chapman’s approach was always to “add lightness,” instead of moving to bigger, heavier engines. He achieved this for the Elite by pioneering an all-fiberglass monocoque with only localized steel reinforcement. The 1953 Corvette showed the potential of a fiberglass body on a steel chassis, but Chapman took it a step further. The Elite was entirely fiberglass, including its load-bearing structure. Suspension parts and the front subframe supporting the engine, bolted directly to three box sections molded into the fiberglass body. His advanced glass-reinforced composite body panels were lightweight and cost-effective but, more importantly, it was the world’s first fiberglass monocoque production car.
The curvaceous body style was the work of Peter Kirwan-Taylor, John Frayling, and aerodynamicist, Frank Costin. The resulting design had a low drag coefficient of only 0.29. Underneath was an advanced suspension derived from Lotus 12 Formula 2 racing car and used “Chapman struts” at the rear. You can see their tops poking up through the rear window. The resulting build, and combined lighter weight, gave the Elite a nimble, exhilarating performance out of its 75hp 1.2-liter Coventry Climax “Feather Weight Elite” (FEW) inline four-cylinder engine. 1960 Motor magazine road test noted its maximum speed at 111.8 mph with 0–60 mph in 11.4 seconds. “Speed, controllability in all conditions and comfort in all its aspects make this compact two-seat coupe an extremely desirable property,” concluded the road test, calling it a “mettlesome thoroughbred.”
At roughly $5500 with tax, the Series 1 Elite was pricey, but it was gorgeous and fast! Series 2 developments included an improved design of rear suspension, and a better body build by Bristol Aircraft. In 1960, one could option a higher performance, special equipment (SE) Lotus model, like the one seen here. This included a ZF all-synchromesh close-ratio gearbox, two SU carburetors, and a modified exhaust manifold. Altogether, the package developed 85 bhp.
The Lotus Elite offered outstanding performance, but it was expensive to build and nearly bankrupted Lotus. In September 1963, after a mere five years, Elite production came to a halt. Road & Track magazine even ran “An Appreciation and an Obituary” for the elegant little car.

I've always enjoyed studying the gills of mushrooms. The purpose of mushroom gills, also known as lamellae, is to produce and then release spores. When the spores drop to the ground, often they are carried away by the wind.

The sun was waning as the lights came on at this impressive Provincial government center.
"The purpose of the buildings is to serve as the seat of B.C.’s provincial government. It is here that important decisions are made regarding the province on matters such as health, education, transportation, and housing.
The Parliament Buildings are located on the banks of the Inner Harbour in British Columbia’s capital city, Victoria. As one of the dominant features of the downtown core, B.C.’s government buildings are one of Victoria’s must-see sights, teeming with history and culture. They reside on 12.5 acres of lush property. The Empress Hotel is nearby.
Staying in the area until sun sets is highly recommended. The Parliament Buildings will eventually light up with approximately 3500 energy efficient lightbulbs, highlighting the striking outline of the structure, and making for a great photo opportunity.
Incredibly, the original idea for the lightbulbs was first brought to life in 1897 when the buildings were first completed. This was a time when electricity was still a novel phenomenon. While fewer than there are today, the lightbulbs were strung in honour of Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee, as they were supposed to look like diamonds shining brightly in the darkness. The idea was brought back in the 1960s, and since then, the buildings have been lit every single evening at dusk." victoriabc.ca
Kipsala is an island in Daugava river in the middle of Rīga- capital city of Latvia
The island is 2.7 km long and 0.5 km wide. The island has existed and been inhabited for about 300 years, as it was originally formed as a sandbank brought by the river with muddy interlayers
18th century Ships entering Riga needed a place to unload large ballast, and for this purpose the Rāte of Riga established an area in Ķīpsala, where Ballast Dam was formed from the ballast material unloaded over the centuries - Ķīpsala's largest and also the most architecturally rich street. 18th century construction works of the dam took place according to the project of G.E. Veismanis, a century later restoration works were underway. For many years Ballast dam was the only paved street in Ķipsala.
The residential buildings were located on one side of the street, because the opposite side is washed by the Daugava. In order to strengthen the shore along the street, a boulder strengthening structure was built in 1885. On the banks of the Daugava near the Ballast Dam in the 20th century. In the 1930s, a city swimming pool was built.

Backwater Reservoir is a reservoir in north west Angus, Scotland. The reservoir's sole purpose is to provide drinking water, and as such, it supplies Angus, Dundee, and parts of Perth and Kinross. Backwater, together with the smaller Lintrathen Reservoir 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the south, is capable of supplying some 300,000 people with drinking water.
The project was initiated by the Dundee Corporation Waterworks in 1964 and absorbed into the newly created East of Scotland Water Board in 1968, before final completion and the official opening by Queen Elizabeth II on 9 October 1969.
Scottish Water are the present owners and operators of the reservoir, following the amalgamation of the East of Scotland Water Authority with the West of Scotland and North of Scotland Water Authorities to form a single company. Scottish Water is owned by the Scottish Government.
The dam is an embankment type, measuring 42.6 metres high by 570 metres long. The reservoir extends for 3 kilometres behind the dam and has a peak capacity of 24.55 million cubic metres (867×106 cu ft). An unclassified road runs across the spillway and embankment before following the east bank of the reservoir. This road runs for a further 2 kilometres before coming to an end. The dam was the first in Britain to use chemical grouting to create a waterproof barrier below the embankment.
Balfour Beatty constructed the embankment and ancillary works. Soil Mechanics and Bachy Soletanche were responsible for the chemical grouting and for tunnelling work. Consulting engineer was Babtie, Shaw and Morton.
Backwater Reservoir is located within Glen Isla. The reservoir can be reached by taking the B951 turn-off from the A93 (around 5 miles south of Spittal of Glenshee) to the north-west, or from the A926 at Kirriemuir to the south-east. The perimeter of the reservoir forms a popular walking route.

Sometimes I accidentally on purpose trespass a bit. . These beautiful almond trees were literally right alongside of country roads. One click led to many as I wandered around enjoying the beauty and sounds of birds and the moo of cows. One time as I felt eyes upon me and yes, I was a little bit in on the property. I saw an old farmer standing and looking at me and I thought ahoh so I did a quick Namaste. He smiled and nodded, said take as many pictures as you want, and then he disappeared.

The marigold - a pretty, all-purpose plant with a wide range of medicinal effects. All of them made possible by the essential oils and resins trapped in the bright yellow flowers.
The friendly flower's willingness to bloom is undeniable. Because its blossom shone in vibrant yellow and gold every month from June to October, the Romans called it calendula, referring to the first day of the month.
The main medicinal applications of marigold are skin conditions of all kinds, including contusions, bruises and varicose veins. Minor skin injuries and inflammation can also be successfully treated. Marigold ointment promotes wound healing for eczema and sunburns. The fresh flowers must be preserved in olive oil and then stored in a cool and dark place. After three weeks, the filtered oil can be mixed with wax to make the ointment. Decanted into a jar, the ointment can set and will now last several months.

The purpose of my drive yesterday was to locate the Northfield Tunnel of the defunct New York Ontario and Western Railroad. I believe when I took the picture I was practically above the portal. Perhaps just past this ridge. But my wounded feet and legs and my arthritic knees ruled out any bushwhacking. In looking for the tunnel I spotted this 1930's era car bodies rusting away.

The main purpose of this photograph is the expression of change in colors, mood and landscape. Focus is not the perfection of overlay of two photos including shadows,... Both were taken in 4 months difference at about the same handheld position.

Der Josenturm gehört zu einen von damals 50 Türmen die die Stadtmauer gesichert haben, er wurde im 14. Jh. Erbaut, nach einem gewaltigen Stadtbrand wurde er im Jahre 1686 neu erbaut, er diente für zwei Zwecke, als Turm der Kapelle St. Judocus und diente auch als Verstärkung der Stadtmauer selbst, an den Wände sieht man heute noch, dass der ursprünglicher Kapellenturm niedriger war, heute kann dieser auch als Übernachtungen gebucht werden.
The Josenturm is one of 50 towers that secured the city wall at that time, it was built in the 14th century, after a huge city fire it was rebuilt in 1686, it served two purposes, as a tower of the chapel of St. Judocus and also served as a reinforcement for the city wall itself, on the walls you can still see that the original chapel tower was lower, today it can also be booked as an overnight stay.

Utility equipment lines the wall of the alley next to a high-rise apartment building. Who knows the history and purpose of all this stuff? But it gives a nice modern-art-sculpture appearance. Photo taken with "The world's smallest full-frame 35mm camera."
