Having noticed on Real Time Trains that a Rail Head Treatment Train was scheduled to run down the Caterham and Tattenham Corner lines on Sunday afternoon, I decided to take a wander to see the train depart Purley for Caterham.

In very gloomy conditions, just before ten to three, a pair of filthy GBRf class 66 locos (lead by 66 741) round the sharp curve after departing Purley as they head onto the Caterham branch.

Wouldn't have bothered normally getting a snap of a very grubby class 66, it was just because it was Sunday afternoon in lockdown and I had nothing better to do!

Go-Ahead's SOE31 waits in Purley prior to a run back to Addington Village on the 359.

Taken on the 29th August, WVL239 is serving on its regular route 127. 239 has since been withdrawn on the 10th October, alongside the other remaining ZF Gemini 1s, being the end of an era.

Whilst WVL204, the last Voith Gemini 1, is at GAL Merton allocated to route 655, the chance of it straying onto the main routes is slim to none.

A view of Freightliner's 59 203 just after 7am, shortly after arrival in Purley Yard. Soon it will draw it's train forward through the Day Aggregates unloading facility.

If only the track, and surrounding areas, on the adjacent main line (and many other lines too) looked as well kept for and relatively weed-free as it does here!

The challenge for Saturday 25th March is triangles. I left it quite late this week, and was beginning to wonder if I was going to get anything, but today offered me an abundance of triangular objects on my outing to my regular Friday lunchtime watering hole, which happens to be in Purley. (Purley? Say no more!) There were of course plenty of triangular road signs, and I noticed some interesting upper windows on a big supermarket, but I settled for this window display in the Cancer Research UK shop in the Brighton Road. It’s always tricky taking photos through shop windows because of the reflections that can intrude into the subject, and indeed there are reflection in this image of shops on the opposite side of the road, and of some vehicles too. What there isn’t, as far as I can see, and rather mysteriously, is any reflection of the photographer? I can only conclude that I’m invisible?

😃 Thank you very much for any 💬s or ⭐️s you might like to give; they’re greatly appreciated!

The vibrant colours of this tree in Purley's Rotary Field caught my eye this morning. One of the pleasures of being up nice and early, as this shot wouldn't be possible later in the morning as the angle of the sun just wouldn't give the same result.

A 'Steam Dreams' charter from Haywards Heath to Oxford (steam worked from Willesden) departed from Purley this morning.

As the scheduled departure time arrived, the electronic display indicated the next train was a charter service, and with no announement to the contrary, there was a lot of anticipation when a locomotive appeared in the distance. All was not as it appeared though, as the approaching train was in fact train 6G10, an engineers working from Hoo Junction to Nunhead, which had run via Maidstone West, Tonbridge and Redhill. The expectant passengers watched as 66 771 'Amanda' and it's train of yellow wagons rumbled past.

All was not lost though, as the charter service duly arrived a few minutes later.
