Seal pup from horsey gap in Norfolk

Some people touch your heart, other ones hold it for you... That's the pups... he have the skill to always make me feel that we are in the right place with the right person. I care about this kiddo ♥

A trip back into the archives for this picture of Willow and Schaefer back in 2018. Taken by the railway tracks used once a week by the heritage railway, which have previously featured on this blog with my Canon. I am not sure, in all honesty, whether I took this picture or Samuel did. We did a bit of photography there around that time. I like the colours, which from memory would not have been particularly 'processed'. Schaefer probably also likes the colours, given there is a lot less grey in his coat than these days.

What a difference a day makes… Obi gets groomed.

Taking a quick detour from the Tassie beachscapes to share a simple iPhone snap of Jazzy while walking at our local dog-friendly beach today. She’s pushing 13 now (in human years, she’s ancient… in dog years, she’s just refined). Regardless of age she will always be my “Pup”

Jazzy loves the beach, clearly a trait she inherited from her human dad 😉 Today she was tearing up and down the sand dunes like a pup half her age, thinking it was hilarious to run into me for a pat at the bottom. Then she hit the surf club café with us, hoping to score a few burger scraps. I may have weakened and given her a few.

She wasn’t the only hopeful diner, the seagulls had formed a very photographable line along the railing, telling me "MINE! MINE! MINE!”. I ignored them, it was mine!

I didn't have a camera with me today and the ocean and sky looked so photogenic, but it was nice to just be in the moment. A simple beach walk, some dog joy, and a burger by the sea - that will do me for a happy life.

Hope everyone’s week had a little sunshine in it!

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to comment on my photos, they are greatly appreciated!

Brave scout

After the pups spotted me and vanished into the Willow thicket, I circled around to the other side. Perhaps they came out on that side. No luck with that. Once again I returned to the original spot. Initially there were no pups in sight. Then, after about 10 minutes, this brave pup poked his head out and came into the open. He saw me right away. It was time to give them a rest. I turned walked away.

It seems strange not heading off to the coast to see the seal pups, but sadly this year it isn't to be. Fingers crossed for next year.

Harbour or Common Seal - Phoca vitulina

Norfolk.....

The smaller of our two UK seal species, Common Seals are also known as Harbour Seals. Despite being called "Common", they are actually less common than Grey Seals!

The harbor (or harbour) seal (Phoca vitulina), also known as the common seal, is a true seal found along temperate and Arctic marine coastlines of the Northern Hemisphere. The most widely distributed species of pinniped (walruses, eared seals, and true seals), they are found in coastal waters of the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Baltic and North Seas.

Harbor seals are brown, silvery white, tan, or gray, with distinctive V-shaped nostrils. An adult can attain a length of 1.85 m (6.1 ft) and a mass of 132 kg (290 lb). Blubber under the seal's skin helps to maintain body temperature. Females outlive males (30–35 years versus 20–25 years). Harbor seals stick to familiar resting spots or haulout sites, generally rocky areas (although ice, sand, and mud may also be used) where they are protected from adverse weather conditions and predation, near a foraging area. Males may fight over mates under water and on land. Females bear a single pup after a nine-month gestation, which they care for alone. Pups can weigh up to 16 kg (35 lb) and are able to swim and dive within hours of birth. They develop quickly on their mothers' fat-rich milk, and are weaned after four to six weeks.

The global population of harbor seals is 350,000–500,000, but subspecies in certain habitats are threatened. Once a common practice, sealing is now illegal in many nations within the animal's range.

Herbie enjoying a short rest

Yesterday evening me, Tracey, and Herb had a walk around Towneley park.

Of course Herb did a lot of running about, so here he is having a 10 second speed rest 😀

The day had started off wet, and then became dry but very windy. Not many people were in the park at all… very enjoyable!

Fox pup from a den thats on Main str downtown Breckenridge. It always amazes me how many people pass by without noticing the foxes.

Red foxes are highly adaptable so it's no surprise they set up their dens at playgrounds, green parks or in barns like here. This youngster was so curious but skittish at the same time... just seconds for a shot and off he was...Bavaria, Germany

This pub is located in Mödlareuth, the village shared in GDR times near the German-German Museum

Four Timber Wolf pups are roughhousing at the den (the nose and an ear are all that can be seen in one case).

Last year I spent some time photographing seal pups. This one was just born and still has part of the umbilical cord attached.

Maryland Pig Services' ex-Conrail SW8 returns light to the property after dropping a single mill gondola for the CSS. This pup's sole task is to ferry gondolas between Maryland Pig Services and the CSS interchange located across from 130th Street. Its extremely sporadic schedule and quick round trip make it a difficult engine to shoot.

There were reports of them which I didn't believe since in the last 25 yrs I have not seen one here. I was proven wrong and saw mom with two young pups. Isle Lake Alberta. Happy Canada Day!

Clambering over sea side rocks I found this pup in the perfect spot. Sea Lions have external ears unlike seals.

After the pup with the snake ran off, the others became very alert. They started to look around and eventually spotted me, sizing me up before scurrying off into the Willow thicket.

When I was waiting for my truck to be inspected, the mechanic's pup kept me entertained... :)

Many thanks to those who comment on my photo's and/or add them as favourites.

Gray Squirrel pup awaiting rescue on tthe Bitter Aloe (a.k.a. Red Aloe, Cape Aloe; Aloe ferox) in my garden - The Space Coast of Florida

The Red-shoulder Hawks have been making a ruckus in the neighborhood lately, and this guy winding up in the Bitter Aloe

is likely a result of their activities.

It wasn't there an hour later,

so it was either rescued by it's parents,

or all it's problems are over.

They never looked my way at the same time.

Harbour Seals pup early in the summer as opposed to Grey Seals which pup in October November.

A total of six coyote (Canis latrans) pups emerged from this den, Southern California.

A pic of my sweet pup from January,

We saw this Coyote pup along with its sibling (whose ears you can see at left of frame) foraging in the wet morning grasses. It appeared to us that these two were on their own, no mother in sight. Doing a little reading, it is pretty common that Coyote pups will be on their own by August and we are nearly there now.

Tettegouche State Park MN

I've just spent a fun few days in Norfolk watchng these adorable seal pups. This one had to be my favourite though, the face just reminds me of a pug. We were blessed with some great weather, 2 days of cloud and 2 of mostly sunshine with glorious sunrises and sunsets. Here the sun is just starting to sink behind the dunes giving this pup a golden glow!

Just in case you are wondering I was using a really long lens so I didn't disturb the seals and always made sure I didn't cut off their escape route to the sea. This one was taken at 1000mm full frame equivalent.
