One of the big souvenirs in E. Europe is wooden puppets. I thought this shop was particularly well done.
Made a mold and casted from the original. Sanded and further refined. need to fill low areas and make the final mold. All in all I'm pretty happy thus far.

Meg knitted each Tenney kid their very own oven mitt so that they would help out with the cooking from time to time, but they prefered to use them as hand puppets instead. That's what you get for not letting your kids play with the oven.

The most important thing I leaned: practical notes about what works and what doesn't. For one thing, the rods: online tutorials recommended a thin, steel rod; in actual practice, the puppets were so large and their acting so animated that MUCH thicker rods were needed. Also, having that little handle helped the performers know how the hand was positioned when they couldn't see the actual arm/hand.
These finger puppets of Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld (right to left) have had a home on the side of my fridge for many years. The set was called the “Axis of Evil.” For the record, I was not a supporter of George W. Bush’s administration, and I can’t remember if someone gave these little puppets to me as a joke or how on Earth they ended up on my fridge.
