The awa ningyo joruri (阿波人形浄瑠璃) began ~400 years ago in the Kansai area of Japan. It was a form of Bunraku (文楽) that was used by farming communities for entertainment.

A new puppet for a new animation. She will be wearing clothes. A clothed paper puppet, oh yes.

I may choose to not actually do this animation (or I may be forced not to as I did puppets last term), but you can see her monochrome face anyway.

This is also just a rough version of her as I've discovered all my wire is missing, so I won't be able to make a proper puppet of her until Tuesday >.<

My needle felted owl puppet is made from wool. Use your owl puppet to help tell a story or act out a daily event. Adults and educators like to give puppets to children because they stimulate the imagination; children love puppets because they're fun!

Wayang golek are wooden doll puppets that are operated from below by rods connected to the hands and a central control rod that runs through the body to the head. The simple construction of the puppets belies their versatility, expressiveness and aptitude for imitating human dance.

In the 18th century the tradition moved into the mountains of West Java where it eventually was used to tell stories of the Ramayana and the Mahabarata in a tradition now called wayang golek purwa, which can be found in Bandung, Bogor and Jakarta. Wayang golek purwa has become the most popular form of wayang golek today and the most famous puppeteer family is the Sunarya family which has produced several generations of stellar performers.

With the withdrawal of the Poland and Czech Republic missile shield, Barack Obama has officially become Vladamir Putin's puppet. It should come as no surprise, since Obama never met a communist he didn't adore.

The Bach was unintentional. It was just playing at my bench- I didn't really think you'd be able to hear it on the video.

We went to the library in MI with Bruce and Bonnie, picked out some books, and played a while. Evan and another little girl tried out most of the puppets in the library's puppet theater too.

Rajasthani (from the western Indian state of Rajasthan) string puppetry is one of the most vibrant aspects of Indian culture. These handmade wooden puppets are much more than just plaything or decorative dolls. They are a part of the traditional performance of puppetry – narrating an event from history, myths, folklore or legend, complete with music and speech.

The tradition of handmade string puppets of Rajasthan is more than a thousand years old. It is known as ‘Kaathputli’ (‘kaath’ means wood, and ‘putli’ is puppet, i.e. wooden puppet).

“I was watching a soap opera and all of a sudden an earthquake took place,” says Natcharin, a 13-year old girl who lives in Chiang Saen, northern Thailand. “My mum and I hid under the table and bed. If there is a disaster, people in our community will be in trouble."

Natcharin recently attended a 2-day workshop with 29 other children from 4 villages to create characters and stories to use for a shadow puppet show all about disasters.

“In our story, we want to talk about how it isn’t good to ignore flood warnings. I’ll use my knowledge to perform for adults and children so that they know how dangerous disasters can be”.

Shadow puppetry is an effective way for vulnerable children and communities to learn about disaster risk reduction using easy, fun and engaging media. In partnership with Plan Thailand, the organisation Wondering Moon uses shadow theatre to tell stories of disasters.
