The Christianity in South India is very old and if Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the only Basilica in Pondicherry, it's one of the 21 Basilicas all over the India. In recent years it has become one of the famous pilgrimage spots for Christians.

Built during the 17th and 18th century by the French missionaries, Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a splendid example of Gothic architecture. Interiors of this church illustrate the entire life of Jesus Christ through stained glass panels. A unique blend of traditional Indian and French style!
