They then intended to make ''a hermitage, in part of the same Fortress that would not do damage'' ending by asking the future sovereign to build the chapel, committing to pay for the images, altarpiece and other necessary ornaments. The Prince Regent favorably dispatched the petition on November 9th 1672, determining to measure the place and that ''with as little expense as possible'', if the construction was carried out.
However, the order only came to Funchal ten years later, dispatched from Lisbon on October 27th , 1682 and registered in Funchal on January 28th, 1683. It must have finished, with a cistern, in 1687, according to the epigraphic inscription ''This church and cistern was built by Governor and Captain General Pedro de Lima in the year 1687'' There is news that its first chaplain was Father Manuel de Andrade, with an annual salary of 18$. In 1698 its first Constable, Simão Fernandes Forte, was appointed, when it was garrisoned by 12 Artillerymen with a salary of 30 réis a day. The Fortress began to work independently of that of São Lourenço in the last quarter of the 17th century. The 194th Combat Service Support Battalion, 2nd Sustainment Brigade, 2nd Infantry Battalion, participated in the Provider Fury exercise at Warrior Base in Area I during the first week of December. The situational training exercise (STX) lanes trained personnel tactical convoy operations exercise was a culminating event for the battalion, giving soldiers a change to put into action the training they had previously received.
It was a chance for leaders to see what the next steps were for their soldiers, making sure the battalion was ready to provide support that’s second to none.
