It's important to revisit the words of Martin Luther King (on all days) but I took a moment this morning to revisit the words of Angela Davis, too.

I love that even in the midst of major concerns about a woman's body being seen as a host and our choice being taken away, you still have a sense of humor. Because, that takes a lot of emotional intelligence that most of our male leaders don't seem to possess. I love that you are still in this country fighting hard for human rights every day even though this country definitely does not deserve you. I love your kind face and wise eyes. I love that you hold your sign up with dignity and I love that you stood up so tall and high so that we could all see it. I love that even if you are afraid, you have other priorities besides cowering. Dear human, I love you and I know this world is better because you're in it.

“This is the moment where we say NO. No more looting, no more stealing, no more billionaires raiding our government while working people struggle to survive.
“On April 5th, we take action. Across the country, thousands of people will march, rally, disrupt, and demand an end to this billionaire power grab. We’ll show up at state capitals, federal buildings, congressional offices, and city centers—anywhere we can make sure they hear us.

This was taken on June 14. This was among many signs I'd see on City Hall steps, and it was not that far after 11:00 AM. Things were just beginning to happen out on the street at this time.
But this was a nice, gentle reminder that just about all of us were descendent from immigrants, whether it was recent or in the last couple of hundred years, or maybe more.
The Resistance continues to rise, due to recent circumstances going on, also in downtown L.A. Just when we thought we had put our signs to rest, Trump returns to the White House, and, to quote Yogi Berra, "It's deja vu all over again!"
And, if you have been looking carefully at the people participating in these rallies and marches, many are senior citizens who are old hands at this sort of thing, going back to the days of the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement, as well as other movements and causes.
Racism: It was 10 years after the first white woman graduated US Army flight school, till they allowed a black woman to graduate.
This photo was also taken after the march around Roybal Center. The sign was well thought out and carefully drawn, carefully lettered, too.
This was among many photos I took of the crowd swelling in front of City Hall before the march down to the Edward Roybal Center. I was still able to find plenty of interesting protest signs.
A museum exhibit hall in Cincinnati, Ohio full of protest signs from anti-Trump demonstrations. The Smithsonian it ain't...
I think it is Gabby Sidibe who marched and sang in the protest--you go girl! You did good. Black lives matter, and if you are not Gabby, you are still beautiful, and you sing great. Carry on sister!
"History repeats itself. That's what's wrong with history." So said the famous defense attorney Clarence Darrow. He was one of the great Americans who both witnessed history and made history.
It is uncertain that cavalry soldiers said "I was just following orders," unless they were facing serious charges in a court martial for slaughtering the Native Americans, and then it was probably something where they had to take the fall for an officer. Those who served in Custer's 7th Cavalry probably would have had more choice things to say about following the orders of their general, but we'll never know that.
The ICE people have probably said this, in a matter-of-fact way to the people arresting them (provided they spoke it in English, or perhaps in a Spanish translation).
However, we know the Germans said it, they said it repeatedly during the Nuremberg Trials. High ranking officers used that "defense" a lot. It didn't work. The vast majority were executed. However, Hermann Goering pulled a fast one on his captors. Thinking he had outsmarted them, he bit down on a cyanide capsule before the guards could escort him to the gallows. That's showing them, right, Hermann?
I don't know if our court system will survive this administration, but I hope I live long enough to hear what the excuse -- I mean, defense -- the ICE people and the ones who actually gave the orders, have to say, even if it is at the Hague.
Remember the photo of the sign that read "Trump Can Oli-Gargle My Balls"? This was on the other side. This was also at Pershing Square on April 5, when everyone was waiting to begin marching towards City Hall.
Personally, I thought it was a mistake to begin the rally at 4:00, but perhaps that was the only time that was permitted. That's a shame, as other large cities began their rallies and marches much earlier in the day. For example, it would be 7:00 PM in New York or Washington, D.C., probably wrapping up their marches while we were just getting started with ours.
I don't know the network this guy was working for, if it was a streaming service, or online, or whatever. He was working alone on the 4th of July. And he was interviewing this woman, who seemed to be a one-woman-band herself, considering her sign. This was only several minutes after 10:00 AM, so the crowd had not yet gathered on the City Hall steps. But they would soon.

I can assume the young woman is showing her loyalty to both the U.S. and to Mexico. It's interesting to see her choices for where each flag goes.
I'm not sure of the significance of the butterfly and the running immigrants. Hopefully, someone here can enlighten me on that.

This is the sign I made for our local tea party!

I hadn't really planned to go to the tea party...I went to the tax day tea party and loved it but I have never really considered myself one of the people that marches and gets involved with political matters. Well...ACORN has completely been my tipping point. The media's ignorance of ACORN is also something that has given me pause. Where am I living? How is it that our president and media have no interest in an organization WILLING to use taxpayer resources to commit over-the-top crimes - even involving children?
The response has been to attack the messengers of this information. I'm incredulious at this point. I want to see a different kind of change and apparently I'm not alone. Apparently we are now the majority.
What will happen next?
I pray for our country and for our president...he needs it.
:o)

We got MANY MANY honks today! Corner of Camelback and 24th Street, Phoenix, Arizona. This was next to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, where President Bush stays at often when he is in town. We figured about 1 out of 3 cars honked, and some honked loud and long...
This photo shows a wide variety of signs. The one on the left, with the MLK quote, is probably too much for anyone to read, unless they are participants and can take the time to read while at City Hall.
We had a lot of cars going by and people honking their horns in support. They would not have had the time to read the sign on the left in full.

I couldn't tell if the woman was napping or just had her head down. I was snapping photos pretty quickly, and it was a little difficult to see clearly, what with my sunglasses fogging up if I stood around where there was little to no breeze while keeping my mask on. (That's the only disadvantage for me in wearing one.)
I think most of the signs were made hastily, with not much preparation time, whereas a lot of the signs I would see at protests and marches in downtown L.A. had some really cleverly made up signs, done very carefully and sophisticatedly.
May 30, 2020 protest against police brutality and for racial justice. #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd
As one who has two cats, I can vouch for this statement. In fact, that's what I said to the lady holding the sign. I said, "I have two cats. I know exactly what you mean." I asked to take a photo of her with her sign and she obliged, one cat parent to another.
Several hundred people gathered at Market Square in Bloomsburg, PA to protest police violence and racism.

One can take a look at these people and see that they have a long life of hard work, and not necessarily in the fields, but in offices and places where hard, dirty work is performed. However, if the MAGA crowd feel these same people are taking away jobs from them, they are welcome to take a crack at this work, and for the same low wages. (But we all know that isn't what this is about.)
This photo was taken at Pershing Square -- actually, on Hill Street next to Pershing Square. This is still before people began to march over to City Hall, which was on April 5.
If you like this sign, you'll love what the other side of the sign says.
Several hundred people gathered at Memorial Park in Danville, PA to protest police violence and in support of Black Lives Matter.
Ironically, the Women's March was led by our mayor, Lori Lightfoot who still wouldn't commit to a library, an art teacher, and a music teacher in every school after 11 days of striking....in a profession primarily dominated by women....just a little bit of cognitive dissonance there.

Eugene Police Department estimates between 7,000-10,000 of us marched during a pandemic to denounce racist police violence
You remember Luigi, don't you? He was one half of the Super Mario Brothers. He has also become an inadvertent symbol, due to his first name being the same as Luigi Mangione. No names are given on this sign, but for most people it doesn't matter. They recognize off the bad who he is and who he currently is a symbol for. The fact that Medicaid is currently on the chopping block makes this image more relevant.
This was taken on June 14. I was still standing on the steps of City Hall, and people were already marching.
This home made sign was obviously made with a lot of passion, and quickly as well.
