Farmers' protest against the government, Frankfurt, 11.01.2024

According to the police, around 500 farmers took part in the protest meeting. 600 tractors were counted, but not all of their drivers were at the meeting. There were also some photographers and cameramen from television and a trade unionist. No Antifa, "Querdenker" or neo-Nazis. But I wasn't there the whole time.

Schoolkids protest. Apparantly they organized themselves through MSN. Good enough for a headline. If they had organized it by phone it would not have been. The result was protest in quite a number of different cities around the country.

Sunday 4 October 20015 saw huge crowds take to the streets of to protest. The event was organised by the TUC.

Greater Manchester Police mounted an operation to ensure people’s right to protest was upheld while ensuring the city could function as normal.

Chief Superintendent John O’Hare, who commanded the operation, said: “Around 60,000 people took part in a demonstration within our city in the spirit of their causes and I would like to thank them for their co-operation.

”The overwhelming majority of people exercised their democratic right to protest with dignity and good grace.

”In those rare instances where individuals sought to cause trouble, our officers acted in a calm and professional manner to ensure that the actions of the few did not compromise the safety, enjoyment and reputation of the majority.

”The fact that only four arrests were made was particularly pleasing.

“I would like to thank the organisers for taking responsibility and ensuring the demonstration was planned and delivered appropriately.”

From Friday 30 August - Monday 2 September 2019 the Extinction Rebellion Protest took place in Manchester city centre.

GMP, with the support of its agency partners, facilitated the space they occupied over the four day period to ensure the safety of both the Extinction Rebellion protesters, but also that of people living, working and visiting the city.

The protesters have now left the Deansgate area, and there is no protest activity taking place in the city centre. All roads have now been reopened and further updates can be found on @GMPCityCentre and @OfficialTFGM.

Whilst GMP is extremely experienced in dealing with large-scale events and protests, this has presented some unique challenges.

We rigorously planned and prepared for this protest in conjunction with all relevant partners, including Manchester City Council, the local authorities of Greater Manchester, Transport for Greater Manchester, British Transport Police and communities and businesses via Cityco within the city centre.

We engaged with the protest group in advance so that we could best understand their intentions.

This enabled us to plan and prepare our response and facilitate a safe protest, resulting in no arrests.

Whilst we respect everyone’s right to peaceful protest, we ask that any protestors in Manchester also respect the right of others to go about their daily business with minimal disruption, and to liaise with the local authorities in advance.

A few days ago, there was a protest in front of city hall to draw attention to a cut in the Housing Subsidy Bonus paid out to the marginally housed. I caught this shot of a protestor putting up his signs and couldn't help but notice the juxtaposition between them and the message on the tree--something he no doubt appreciated too.

a protester is banging a rock on a garbage container in the secluded area of gazi (where a man almost died from a direct gas grenade hit to the head the day before) to show that he is not retreating.

the situation here is very different from the one in beyoglu. the protesters are cut-off from what is happening elsewhere in istanbul, there are many akp supporters and there is no clear front line against the police. hardly anybody outside this part of town knows about what is going on, press coverage was almost non-existant, and i haven't seen a single medical helper. on the other hand, the protesting seems less sophisticated, more destructive and more aggressive.
