Paris, France - May 2020: during the COVID-19 lockdown, on the exit allowance time, a muslim man wearing the Taqiyah muslim cap and a catholic nun wearing the veil are walking together in rue Norvins in Montmartre within the allowed 1 km distance from home, close to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Basilique du Sacré-Cœur).

Before escaping the teeming crowds of the Americana, I stopped long enough to get this video shot of the fountain. This time I did it at night, because there was enough illumination coming from the lights to make it work.
And you can see people wearing masks. So not everyone was taking a chance by going without one.
Everyone appears to be nonchalant while waiting in line for their Covid-19 vaccination. Some were there for their first shot; others, like me, were there for the second (more potent) dose.
I didn't have to wait in a long line out on the sidewalk, like when I did on April 9. This time the line moved fast. When I arrived I was inside the parking garage. It didn't take long at all to move right through, check in with an attendant, get the shot, and then wait the required 15 minutes. It was much better this time.

If you're going to cover your face, cover it in style. Nothing like designer masks to inspire people to wear them. Never mind the real need to wear one, whatever matches one's outfit matters more, right?
Oh, well, if this does get people to buy masks, fine. But you can buy the kind I wear for less than ten bucks and get ten of them. Maybe these can be reused, but do we really need to have haute couture names attached to them, as well as a high price tag? It's bad enough this pandemic has been politicized; does emphasizing class differences between mask wearers need to be done as well?

Protesters gathered in the large courtyard of Glendale City Hall on Sunday, June 7. They had marched from Doran Park, north of City Hall. They gathered here and listened to various speakers, which consisted of religious leaders and people whose own personal stories reflected the injustices African Americans face every day by the police in every city across the country.
There was a parking garage next to the courtyard, providing ample space for people to gather and listen while holding their signs. I did my best to maintain some social distancing, using my 75-300mm lens most of the time.

I just wanted to offer up a little levity to this situation. Everyone is going around in public with masks, many wear gloves, too. (I do when I'm out.) Everyone's lives are turned upside down and there aren't clear indications as to when things will let up soon.
Also, how many empty shelves, near-deserted streets, closed stores and restaurants can one get before they all begin to blur together?
There is a 7-11 around the corner from where I live. I went over there in the afternoon and got a 69 cent Big Gulp. No one can go in without a mask. The counters have plexiglass protectors set up. One can still serve themselves coffee or a Big Gulp or a Slurpee. But all the cups are behind the counter and the employee there gives you the size you request. The six foot markers are on the floor, and there are crates placed in front of the counter, so the customer can't get close, having to reach over to set down the items they buy, or to hand over the money. The employees also wear gloves and masks.
At least there is toilet paper and milk available in the store.
This lady was sitting on top of her car, which was parked on Glendale Avenue, directly in front of the City Hall courtyard. Glendale Avenue was blocked off between Broadway and Wilson Streets.
Since it is a little hard to communicate while wearing a mask, I used a series of hand gestures to indicate to the lady I wanted to take a photo of her sign. I pointed to my camera and then pointed to her sign. She nodded and held it up this way. I took the photo, nodded and gave her the thumbs-up sign, and then I went off to find other subjects at the rally.
Not everyone has the time or money to make elaborate or fancy protest signs. This woman simply took part of a cardboard box and wrote her protest on it with a Sharpie. That's conviction. The sign could also suggest that she represents a group of women who don't always get to be heard or properly represented at rallies like this.
A few minutes later, the line looked like this. It was faster than most express lanes one would find at a supermarket. Once people were checked in it didn't take long for the line to move faster. Also, the people administering the shots were doing so with speed and efficiency as well. They had the vaccine ready, it was in the syringe, and once the upper arm was exposed and dabbed with alcohol, it only took a moment to get the shot. And, despite my looking away, I felt nothing.
I can remember as a child (and even some days as an adult) feeling the needle going in the arm (or butt, whichever place the needle needed to be put -- thank goodness we didn't have to have it done that way here!) was noticeable. And it hurt! This time they got it down (literally) to a science. No noticeable pain from the needle. I doubt five minutes passed by after I took this photo before I got my shot.

The guy in the foreground was wearing a mask, but also a cloak that was not particularly flattering to ICE. I'm guessing it wasn't flattering, otherwise why would he be wearing it?
In situations like this, it's hard to tell if people wear masks because of the fear of picking up something contagious, or they are hiding their faces for fear of being picked up by ICE.
