Romanesque stained glass windows in the Cathedral of Augsburg, dated to the late 11th or the early 12th century. From left to right they feature the prophets Jonah, Daniel, Hosea, King David and Moses.
The windows are about 2.20 m high. The Daniel, Hosea and King David windows are still in their original condition, whereas the Jonah window contains some reworks, and the Moses window is a re-creation of the original dated to the middle of the 16th century.

..is neither an invention of the current situation nor limited to human beings. When I saw these trees on my hiking trip on Friday along river Else I immediately had the words of Khalil Gibran (The prophet / on marriage) in my mind :
Love one another, but make not a bond
of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between
the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from
one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat
not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous,
but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone
though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each
other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain
your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near
together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow
not in each other’s shadow.

At the end of Lower Antelope Canyon in Arizona you can see the head of a figure which could have been carved by an 11th-century romanesque sculptor for some abbey in France or Italy, depicting the prophet Jeremiah or some other Old Testament character. His long hair and beard form fiery waves... Or maybe I'm just seeing things. In short, nature at its most virtuosic.

In a way, these roses speak to me. They are talking about life, beauty, transitoriness, and about our duty not to waste this life we have got. What the prophet says I am not so sure. He has been for years outside in the garden, and nobody listens, it seems. His presence is a reminder nevertheless. Of what?

I am the man that died
As no man should die
As the dark stole my breath
For you
All for you
On the unforgiving cross
So why did you love me
And why did you hate me
What did you see
That tore you in two
That you couldn’t believe in
That you didn’t want to follow
Was too much to digest
Leaving you hollow
Still hungry
Still lost
But the promise remains
If only you would look
If only you would believe me
Because what you are now
What you have become
Is something that lingers
Something that has come undone
Not really living
Because you don’t belong
So who do you place your faith in
Someone or none
What are you inside
Just a shell that holds a heartbreak
One that is crying silently
Over and over
Until it quietly dies

The Eurasian Hoopoe (Upupa epops) is an exotic-looking bird found across Europe, Asia, and North Africa, best known for its "crown" of feathers and unique defense mechanisms.
Appearance and Identification
Distinctive Crest:
It possesses a tall, fan-like crest of cinnamon feathers tipped with black. This crest is typically held closed but is dramatically raised when the bird is excited or has just landed.
Coloration:
Its body is a pinkish-brown or cinnamon color, contrasting sharply with broad, rounded wings and a tail barred with black and white "zebra" stripes.
Long Bill:
It has a long, slender, down-curved bill used for probing soft soil and leaf litter for food.
Butterfly Flight:
Its flight is highly characteristic, featuring an erratic, undulating movement with deep wingbeats that make it resemble a giant butterfly.
Behavior and Diet
Diet:
Primarily insectivorous, it eats larvae, beetles, crickets, and mole crickets. It also occasionally takes small reptiles, frogs, and berries.
Unique Call:
Its name is onomatopoeic, derived from its soft, trisyllabic "oop-oop-oop" or "hoo-poo-poo" call.
Defense Mechanism:
To deter predators, nesting females and chicks produce a foul-smelling liquid from an oil gland that smells like rotting meat. Older chicks can also squirt feces at intruders to defend the nest.
Habitat and Conservation
Range:
It is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Northern populations are migratory, wintering in sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia.
Nesting:
Hoopoes are cavity nesters, using holes in trees, walls, cliffs, or abandoned buildings.
Status:
Listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, though populations are declining in Western Europe due to habitat loss and pesticide use.
Cultural Significance
National Symbol:
It is the National Bird of Israel (selected in 2008).
Religious & Mythological:
The hoopoe is mentioned in the Quran as a messenger for Prophet Solomon and appears in ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Persian literature as a symbol of wisdom or virtue.

The Abrahamic religions acknowledge Ezekiel as a prophet. According to the narrative, Ezekiel prophesied the destruction of Judah's capital city Jerusalem. In 587 BCE, the Neo-Babylonian Empire conquered Jerusalem, destroyed Solomon's Temple, and sent the Judahite upper classes into the Babylonian captivity.
However, Ezekiel also prophesied the eventual restoration of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel. It is believed he died around 570 BCE; Ezekiel's Tomb is a Jewish religious site in Mesopotamia. Three decades later, in 539 BCE, the Persian empire conquered Babylon and the Edict of Cyrus repatriated the exiles.
The name "Ezekiel" means "God is strong" or "God strengthens" in Hebrew.

Merlin
Look into my eyes
And you will know
That I can see both into your future
And back into your past
For I am The Merlin
Wild man, bard, prophet,
And advisor to Kings
I hold Albion in my heart
And Arthur’s spirit in trust
Sleeping under the hollow hill
Waiting for the call
As each time the Holy Hawthorn blossoms
And the Grail bleeds some more
We are one step closer
For Excalibur to rule
All of you who have followed since
Are pale in comparison
Because I am The Merlin
The first and the last of his name

Well my friends and followers, we are nearly there; the next instalment of this painting will be the complete reveal of the whole three by two foot watercolour painting. It was a labour of love, but in showing you the details I hope you have enjoyed seeing those parts of it, and I thank you for all your support and kind comments as I have loaded them up.
Showing you all the complete painting of Merlin, who holds “The Wished For” will herald a new chapter on Flickr for me, as I have been working on my photography film archive, and bringing it to life again has reminded me of just how much it made me the person I am today, not just creatively but also spiritually.
So gradually I will be hoping to share the beauty and wonder of those photographs, and what made me pursue my own spiritual quest to this present day. I walked with Merlin in those lands of eternal summer in the South West of England, and he guided me on the path that I needed to follow, and it has become an inherent part of me.
Whether I am taking images, writing poetry or painting, the Song of Albion runs through me, inspiring me with the legends and myths of the British Isles, and the deep and abiding spirit of the British people who have always responded to our beautiful landscapes in creative ways.
I will continue to show contemporary works on Flickr alongside my archive, which may well end up being interesting in itself, to see the progression of ideas.
My warm regards and deepest thanks to all of you as always, Shelley.
And meanwhile, if you would like to see more of my work, have a look at my website at:
UPDATE 12th March 2026.
Thank you all so much, for commenting, faving and viewing my latest offerings, including this one. I have only just come back on here later today, as Flickr was being 'temperamental' shall we say, and wouldn't load properly. Whether that's just the UK, or more localised I do not know, or just the..erm, Mad Max world we are living in. But it's not a film is it? Or a game.
I have felt a bit rattled, to put it mildly the past few days. I was going to put my latest offerings up on the day that the Middle East was yet again, plunged into conflict. When I went on the net...I just couldn't do it. The Angels had to wait.
But yesterday...the Angels more or less dragged me to my desk and told me to get on with it. This latest batch of work...can you imagine them revolving around the earth in all dimensions?
Do Angels cry? Yes they do. So I put the work up.
I wish everybody would just stop. Life here is so precious, don't waste it, or the seas will be filled with tears and the levels will rise even more.
A quieter revolution is needed, where such stubbornness results in a determination to be a caring human being, as a lot of us are, but we are not listened to. The choice is there though, it just might need an element of courage to walk that path of kindness.
Merlin tells me nothing is new, man will be man, and he is right. But there are moments in such dark times when a shining light refuses to go out, and I am a devotee. That light will always be here in my gallery for you to find.
I will be getting back to you all soon, to catch up, as you know I do. Meanwhile, I am thinking of you all, and holding you all in my heart.
Shelley x
UPDATE 26th March, 2026.
Hello everybody. Just felt like writing something. Anything. I have been so distracted lately - do you all feel the same? I can hardly string two words together, let alone settle down and compose some work. I am way behind with my catching up on here as well. I have tried to do all these things but my mind keeps wandering...I am avoiding the news except for the main points as it is messing with my head. Alright then I thought, I'll do something physical! The garden needs sorting out as Spring is making itself felt and once that races away you are forever chopping it back, especially the ivy, which basically runs amok.
But although that was better, I found it weirdly quiet where I am and that didn't feel natural. I kept thinking that it wasn't quiet elsewhere and some people would welcome the peace, so I shouldn't even mention this. Everything feels 'off' and you feel the weight of 'wrongness'.
Usually in times of uncertainty I can go inward and seek solace there, especially with my work, but I am finding that difficult. The "Weight of Wrongness" is like a cloud cover all around the world; a blanket that does not offer any comfort.
The human race is its own worst enemy...will we ever reach an accord where we an co-exist without bloodshed? It seems an impossible dream. History has been known to judge us...and future chapters will add to this story of our lives at this time in this century. Maybe it will be the same story of bloodshed, because that makes headlines. What the headlines don't show enough of is the quiet stories of care and courage. Would anybody ever have nerve enough to do a 'news paper' of small acts of kindness?
This is where I get a bit strident myself and say I won't ever give up holding my own particular brand of 'Spirit-Light'.
I can't you see, because that is who I am. Without it I am nothing. Something in me will not give up because I know that Light is needed, in this life and the next, and not just for myself.
Friends, Followers, Viewer's, Commentators..do not give up. Let your beautiful, powerful, emotive and gorgeous work change minds. Support each other, reach out with compassion, and let honesty flow, because real change comes from those who are prepared to live with the courage of their convictions.
Well, I wrote something after all. Be well my friends, and be at peace in your heart if you can. I am thinking of you all...

Glory to the queen of the world, to the great prophet of the holier worlds, to the guardian of blissful love -- she sends thee to me -- thou tenderly beloved -- the gracious sun of the Night, -- now am I awake -- for now am I thine and mine -- thou hast made me know the Night -- made of me a man -- consume with spirit-fire my body, that I, turned to finer air, may mingle more closely with thee, and then our bridal night endure forever.

Matthew the Apostle, also known as Saint Matthew and possibly as Levi, was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist, a claim rejected by most biblical scholars, though the "traditional authorship still has its defenders."

"In order to understand you must stand under", was the last thing the man told me before we shook hands and went about our separate ways. It could have gone so much worse, I realized. After all, I barged into his house, unannounced and unwelcome. An elaborate array of all sorts of detritus washed downstream by the mighty Passaic River had been arranged into various artistic pieces scattered throughout the place. A headless, bare chested mannequin, spray-painted silver stood propped up against an inner stairwell wall. Dozens of assorted paperback books lay scattered across a blanket freshly tossed over the cold concrete floor below. A small basket full with snack-pack sized chips and pretzel bags sits atop a wooden chest of drawers, accented by a table lamp adorned with a purple shade. A bouquet of Foxtail Grass penetrated into the softened white wax inside a glass candle vase, drooped from dehydration. These were just some of the things I noticed before a man unexpectedly entered the room, wearing a white puffy jacket and freshly pressed pants, while carrying a plastic bag bloated with what appeared to be empty single-use water bottles. I suppose we both sort of startled each other. "Visitors!", the strange man exclaimed while simultaneously placing down the sack of plastic bottles and reaching out for a handshake. "You can call me Prophet", the man responded while tightly gripping my hand, as my eyes ran up and down his posture, examining his dapper attire.
It became evident that Prophet is a proud man indeed. Proud of the space he carved out within the godforsaken ruins of the crumbling toxic factory we both stood within. But to say Prophet was a homeless man would be a bold-faced lie. For these ruins were as much his home as a typical house with a white-picket fence is to a suburbanite. Yet Prophet's home was far from typical or generic. Still in a bit of shock that I was greeted as a visitor rather than an intruder, I trusted the man to show my friend and I around his house, as he insisted on taking us for a tour. Prophet did not view anything as trash, but rather as art and an extension of his creative mind. Seemingly random objects washed up from the river or artifacts salvaged from inside the abandoned factory all had some sort of artistic value to Prophet and were on display inside his home as if it were some type of underground art gallery. "We humans must live UNDERNEATH the ground!" Prophet asserted numerous times during his tour and speech. It became increasingly clear that Prophet believed in an idea that humans must live underneath the Earth to allow the natural world to heal and flourish above us. A religious man, I suspect not, yet a man of God, most certainly. My run-in with Prophet is truly an experience that will always stick with me. A pseudo-religious ruins sermon based upon a realm of reality preached by a man just ever so disconnected from society, yet clever enough to escape it and build his own utopia underneath.

Isaiah - one of the biblical prophets, coming from a noble Jewish priestly family, was born in Jerusalem around 765 BC. e. He prophesied in Hebrew. Isaiah is notable primarily for its prophecies about the Messiah.
Aaron - according to Abrahamic religions, he was a prophet, a high priest, and the elder brother of Moses. Knowledge of Aaron, along with his brother Moses, exclusively comes from religious texts, such as the Bible and the Quran.
No, this is not pinhole. But I had to show you this beautiful interior. This church was built in 1885 to replace the old Wesleyan Chapel of the Methodist Church. I have previously shown how it is set on a hill that towers above everything else in the town. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/50334597378/in/album-72...
The window on the left has some beautiful stained glass that dates from 1884. It was a gift by former students of Horton College. This college was run by the church and existed not far down the road. Unfortunately all that is left of it is a single arch. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/50350853282/in/album-72...
The motifs are fascinating and I've never seen this combination of biblical figures together like this before. There is the calling of the young boy Samuel to be a prophet in Israel (1 Samuel 3), and then on the other side is the raising of young Timothy (Paul's apostolic protégé) by his mother Eunice and his grandmother Lois. Timothy went on to become a bishop in the early church.
In the middle is another young man fresh from his Bar Mitzvah who showed wisdom far beyond his years when he debated with the Jewish theologians in the Temple at the age of 12: His name was Yeshua ben Joseph. We know him as Jesus.

From Khalil Gibran's THE PROPHET
And an old priest said, "Speak to us of Religion."
And he said:
Have I spoken this day of aught else?
Is not religion all deeds and all reflection,
And that which is neither deed nor reflection, but a wonder and a surprise ever springing in the soul, even while the hands hew the stone or tend the loom?
Who can separate his faith from his actions, or his belief from his occupations?
Who can spread his hours before him, saying, "This for God and this for myself; This for my soul, and this other for my body?"
All your hours are wings that beat through space from self to self.
He who wears his morality but as his best garment were better naked.
The wind and the sun will tear no holes in his skin.
And he who defines his conduct by ethics imprisons his song-bird in a cage.
The freest song comes not through bars and wires.
And he to whom worshipping is a window, to open but also to shut, has not yet visited the house of his soul whose windows are from dawn to dawn.
Your daily life is your temple and your religion.
Whenever you enter into it take with you your all.
Take the plough and the forge and the mallet and the lute,
The things you have fashioned in necessity or for delight.
For in revery you cannot rise above your achievements nor fall lower than your failures.
And take with you all men:
For in adoration you cannot fly higher than their hopes nor humble yourself lower than their despair.
And if you would know God be not therefore a solver of riddles.
Rather look about you and you shall see Him playing with your children.
And look into space; you shall see Him walking in the cloud, outstretching His arms in the lightning and descending in rain.
You shall see Him smiling in flowers, then rising and waving His hands in trees.
