I had to take this movie with St George's Wharf coming into view as I was passing it on the bus. How can anyone live in a building where it looks as if the roof is caving in. Worst still, is how can anyone live in a building that resembles the Dreadnought battleship from World War One, all that is missing on St George's Wharf are numerous massive guns.
London's skyline is becoming ruined with these kind of monstrosities, it is fast becoming the ugliest city in Europe as a consequence - soon there will not be much to write on a postcard of London that is aesthetically pleasing - there will be no scenes which will be worthy of any aesthetic note other than London's incredibly garish modern buildings.

I encountered this advertisement when I visited Hong Kong. Central Equity is a major Australian property developer, which focuses on apartment developments in the Melbourne CBD, which are then sold to Asian investors.
With the current rampage against old buildings by property developers , numerous buildings from the forties, fifties, sixties and seventies are disappearing at an alarming rate only to be replaced by the rather unimaginative 'shopping mall' off the peg monstrosities.
This building in Holborn looks like a likely candidate for flattening. Thought I should take this photo.
You need to remember that these buildings were designed that looked towards a possible modern future, it did not quite work out - but they still have vision. The replacements are oh so over designed, ugly and do not point to any future.

An extended Chinese family work together to husk corn outside their new housing development in Tongzhou, in the eastern suburbs of Beijing. Some of the land the family used to own was sold to developers and they got discounted apartments as part of the deal. They still own land, and use the road in front of their apartments to husk and dry corn.

I became extremely saddened to see property developers flatten the Swiss Centre, it was a big focal point on a corner of Leicester Square. I remember first seeing it as a child, it had a fascinating light contraption that would advertise, provide weather forecasts and give brief news summaries; this was replaced by an extremely tacky but enchanting clock with literally loads of bells and whistles, it used to attract numerous people and tourists. The building itself was a fascinating combination of curves and cubes. Sad to see it go - may the buggers who did this get credit crunched big time!
A public sculpture features a pink cow with an orange udder. The piece is part of a sculpture park which is a feature of a new luxury housing complex in Tongzhou, a suburban aera that has seen a recent construction boom in the eastern suburbs of Beijing.
