Separadas por la distancia pero unidas por el corazón, deseando que llegue el verano para estar juntas otra vez....
I am leaving Villahermosa in two days after nearly a year. When I first arrived to this seemingly colorless, modern city I felt really depressed. It wasn't the bright and lively Mexico that I had hoped to encounter.
Then I did a flickr search for Villahermosa and stumbled across the work of Anahita Avalos, one the best photographers I've ever known personally. I contacted her. We would soon become good friends.
Those of you who have been following my stream know Anahita and her stunning work. If you don't, you must see it to understand how she turned my whole experience of this place around within a matter of minutes. Peering into life as she sees it through her camera lens is an incredible gift. Her work is at once surreal, magical and yet incredibly honest and tangible. Because of these traits, you can sink your teeth into her photos and lose yourself in them. Her work embodies the whimsical innocence of a child grounded by years of truthful experience.

Anahita, I've said it a million times already but you'll never know just how much you've helped me grow as a photographer in the short time we've known each other. Work like yours truly depicts the quintessential soul of art--that beauty is always contextualized from within the imagination of the beholder. And the selfless artist humbly shares what he/she sees with the world without judgement.
I'm so glad we'll be connected through this wonderful medium of photography for life!
