When we came upon this little hidden place, I could have swarn I saw a fairy hide away somewhere down there. Unfourtunately our camera lense just couldn't do this place justice.
This purports to be the very exact spot that MOSES stood and was shown the Promised Land. The landmark indicator shows the various cities of the Holy Land most now in occupied West Bank. Lake Tiberias is the other name for the Sea of Galilee and can only be seen from the northern town of Umm-Qais.
The rays of the Sun shining thru the clouds add to the drama of the place and the lengend of Moses and the Promised Land.
In the 6th century AD, monks constructed a Byzantine monastery on Siyagha, which lasted for almost six centuries. While the building is no longer there, the mosaics from this time period are still visible. The site was abandoned by the 16th century. In 1993, Mount Nebo was purchased by the Franciscans who restored the site. It is an active Franciscan monastery today that is open to visitors.
