Two prominent peaks of the Alaska range rise above the Chulitna river shortly after dawn. Makes our human frailties and problems seem quite small in comparison when standing here.
Thanks for taking a peak peek!
Big Rock (also known as either Okotoks Erratic or, by the Blackfoot, as Okotok) likely served as a prominent landmark for Indigenous people.
The Okotoks Erratic is a 16,500-tonne (18,200-ton) boulder that lies on the otherwise flat, relatively featureless, surface of the Canadian Prairies in Alberta [An erratic is a rock or boulder that differs from the surrounding rock and is believed to have been brought from a distance by glacial action].
This massive angular boulder, which is broken into two main pieces, measures about 41 by 18 metres and is 9 m high. It consists of thick-bedded, micaceous, feldspathic quartzite that is light grey, pink, to purplish. Besides having been extensively fractured by frost action, it is unweathered. [...]. Wikipedia

A small beautiful finch always seen in groups in the countryside. They are named after the three prominent colors on their bodies. These Munias were busy foraging and collecting nesting materials from the ground.
They are resident birds, usually found throughout the year. Their breeding seasons starts around June / July till Sep end. So come summer end, they are quite visible due to the need to build nests and frequently collect food. As the winter begins, their numbers grow by hundreds. Most photographers I know love shooting these birds - along with the Strawberry finches and they both are found in the same habitats.
Thank you very much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.
Eastern Chipmunk.
Between 8 1/2 to 11 3/4 inches in length. Reddish brown above with a white belly. 1 white stripe bordered by 2 black stripes on sides ending at the rump. 2 white stripes on back much thinner than side stripes. Dark center stripe down the back. Pale facial stripes above and below the eyes. Tail brown on tip and edged with black. Prominent ears.
The Eastern Chipmunk's habitat includes open deciduous woodlands, forest edges, brushy areas, bushes and stone walls in cemeteries and around houses.
They range from southeastern Canada and the north-eastern U.S. east from North Dakota and eastern Oklahoma and south to Missisippi, northwest Carolina and Virginia.

The prominent church in the background is the Christuskirche, a protestant church. Not what you expect given that Mainz was one of the three archdioceses being elector in the Holy Roman Empire. Further in the back is a paper factory in Mainz-Kostheim which actually belongs to Wiesbaden on the other side of the Rhein and which borders the river Main. Lots of 'not-what-you-expects' if you know a thing about Mainz.
...City
While Rome is the Eternal City one might call Berlin the eternal building site. Or The Unfinished City. Construction cranes are as prominently featured in Berlin's skyline as sights. And it can happen that, if you haven't visited a place in a longer while ("easy" in pandemic times), you'll find old, familiar buildings gone, while new buildings seem to pop up out of nowhere everywhere. I've taken this image last week after a visit to the Futurium (a "House of the Future", opened in 2019 – I'll post images from there soon); in the foreground you can see the river Spree, and the glass building on the left is Berlin's Central Station, the Hauptbahnhof (HBF). Noteworthy: The HBF's upper platforms aren't fully roofed, because the Deutsche Bahn (DB; the German Railway Company) wanted to open the HBF in time for the 2006 World Football Championship by all means, and it would have taken until 2008 to finish the roof. The irony: All the construction parts needed to finish the roof were already manufactured. To this date these parts are stored on the premises of Berlin's East Station. Will the roof ever be finished? Who knows... The construction site you see in front of the HBF has nothing to do with the HBF's roof. It is that of the new S 21 suburban railway line, which is scheduled for completion in 2022. Allegedly...
At first, I wanted to process this as a monochrome, because the scene is rather busy. But I liked all these colours. So I thought "embrace the chaos, embrace the construction site and all those cranes", and do it in colour ;) The final image is an HDR made from three images (in HDR Efex), with further processing / sliding steps in Color Efex.
Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, stay safe and healthy, and take care!
The Worthington Glacier sits prominently on this scenic highway as one drives to Valdez AK. It's an easy walk to the toe of this beautiful glacier.
"One of the most visited natural attractions along the Richardson Highway, this four-mile-long glacier descends almost to pavement and is easy to approach on foot. Worthington Glacier—listed as a Natural National Landmark—is kept healthy by the area’s extraordinary snowfall. (Nearby Thompson Pass has been known to experience 80 feet of annual accumulation!)." alaska.org

This shot was taken at the same place as one of the previous posts of this series. I used different focus on prominent spikes and let the landscape in background blurred. This one is not HDR in contrary to previous post and the different software was used to develop RAW file - this time I tried new version of DxO OpticsPro.

Sonnenberg Gardens, also known as Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park, Canandaigua, New York, USA, at the North end of Canandaigua Lake, in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. The house and gardens are open to the public every day, May through October.
The property was once the summer home of Frederick Ferris Thompson, a prominent banker in New York City, and his wife Mary Clark Thompson, whose father, Myron Holley Clark, was Governor of New York State in 1855. The Clark family was from Canandaigua, NY. Mr. & Mrs. Thompson's main home was in NYC in a large townhouse on Madison Avenue. The Thompsons purchased the Sonnenberg property in 1863, keeping the name, Sonnenberg (which means "sunny hill" in German). In 1887, they replaced the original farmhouse with a forty-room Queen Anne style mansion. The property also had a 100-acre farm to the east. Sonnenberg's gardens were designed and built between 1902–1919, and originally consisted of nine gardens in a variety of styles.

So, has he completely lost it? No, not the driver, me. Well, who refers to oneself in the third person? That may be one indication of losing it. Actually, no to that as well. Now that I have proven to myself that I am capable of using HDR responsibly, I thought I may as well give into the temptation that devil software is throwing at me and apply this process in a manner that results in something completely different. I always wanted to do a minimalist color image without completely giving up on color because I am addicted to it. Quite like the effect “contrast optimizer” has on the bucket loader. That’s why I cropped top and bottom to feature the loader a bit more prominently. The reason the sides are uncropped is because I liked the effect on the fence to the right of the loader and on the faux brick wall to the left of the loader. And no, not to worry, you won’t see too many of these shots going forward. No sense in getting carried away. Less is usually more unless we are dealing with Marzipan which is powerful enough to make me .…
Last August I found a caterpillar of the Pebble Prominent moth. The larva pupated in October and, today, the adult moth emerged. This species of macro moth is a common resident throughout most of Great Britain and Ireland.
The robin features prominently in British folklore and that of northwestern France, but much less so in other parts of Europe. It was held to be a storm-cloud bird and sacred to Thor, the god of thunder, in Norse mythology. But this one was quietly waiting for me in the Jardins de Bagatelle.
The beacon on the moor is situated next to the 17th century Mermaid Inn (no longer an inn) and looks down towards The Roaches. The Roaches is the name given to a prominent rocky ridge situated above the town of Leek and Tittesworth Reservoir in the Peak District of England. The ridge with its spectacular rock formations rises steeply to 505 m.
The shield is the badge (emblem) of Staffordshire Moorlands District. The Stafford Knot is seen above a Curlew which is standing on moorland heather. It is said the during the reign of Queen Elisabeth I, beacons were lit up and down the country warning of the imminent Spanish Armada’s attempted invasion.

The Maple Prominent is a moth of the Notodontidae family. It is found throughout Britain and mainland Europe. The wingspan is 35–40 mm. The moths are on wing from May to July depending on the location. The larvae feed on Acer campestris and sometimes Acer pseudoplatanus.
This moth was found at only five locations in Gloucestershire in 2014 - all on the Cotswold Hills. This 20mm final instar caterpillar was bred from an egg laid by an adult Maple Prominent moth at Thrupp, Gloucestershire, in July 2015.

This beautiful steeple was built of fine bricks, slate roofing on top of Kalker Chapel. Four (golden) clocks are installed, one on each side of the steeple’s base.
The Kalker Chapel was rebuilt between 1948 and 1950 after it was destroyed in the Second World War . It has its origins in the early modern period around 1666/67. The chapel is located in the Kalk district at the junction of the Kalker Hauptstrasse and Kapellenstrasse, which branches off to the southeast in the direction of the Vingst district.

Prominent Physcian in Herkimer, Left to the city.
Herkimer County Historical Society is located in the 1884 Suiter Building, a historic home in Herkimer, Herkimer County, New York. It is a 2 1⁄2-story, wood frame structure with red pressed brick walls laid in black mortar built in 1884. It features a complex pitched roof of slate with a brick corbelled cornice and terra cotta ornament along the roof edge. There is also an octagonal peaked roof above the corner tower. Built originally as a private home, it was unfinished at the time of its builders death in 1925 and given to the Herkimer County Historical Society who occupied it in 1935.[2]
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972
John Yates Chisholm (1849-1918) was a prominent Bloomington businessman and real estate dealer. In 1888, he commissioned architect George H. Miller to design this Victorian Romanesque-style office building in the 200 block of E. Front St.
Miller, whose work has been seen throughout this McLean County series, delighted in the variation of colors and textures. Like many architects of the late 19th century, he was intrigued by the abundance of new ceramic products which were coming to market. The Chisholm building shown here was an early example of the use of terra cotta panels and other ceramics.
Miller believed businessmen wanted their buildings to be distinctive and be clearly distinguished from those of their neighbors. Both the Higgins Marble Works building next door (also designed by Miller and previously featured in this series) and the Chisholm Building are Victorian Romanesque-styles; yet the facades are quite distinct from each other. Today the Chisholm Building is a mixed use property with professional offices on the ground floor, and condominiums above.
The John Y. Chisholm Building is contributing architectural property in the Bloomington Central Business District listed in 1985 in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The district includes roughly twelve square blocks of the city and encompasses 140 buildings, 118 of which are contributing buildings to the district's historic character.
Bloomington is the seat of McLean County. It is adjacent to Normal, and is the more populous of the two principal municipalities of the Bloomington-Normal metropolitan area. Bloomington is home to State Farm Insurance, Country Financial and Beer Nuts. Illinois Wesleyan University is located here, while the neighboring twin city of Normal is home to Illinois State University and Heartland Community College. Bloomington is 135 miles (217 km) southwest of Chicago, and 162 miles (261 km) northeast of St. Louis. The estimated population of Bloomington in 2019 was 77,330, with a metro population of 191,067.
Pioneer Peak is a 6,398 foot mountain in the Chugach Mountains in the Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) Valley. I took this photo of Pioneer Peak from Reflections Lake next to the Knik River. You can see the snow capping the mountain. The snow covering has been expanding as rain comes through, as it snows at the higher elevations, and the coverage has slowly been moving down the mountain as winter approaches. You can see the effect of the wind as it passes the peak, condensing into cloud from the moisture as the snow on the mountain evaporates.
A prominent landmark in the Mat-Su Valley, Pioneer Peak was named for the pioneers of the Matanuska agricultural colony of the mid-1930s.

Catène de Container, Le Havre
"The sculpture, located in a prominent place near the entrance to the port of Le Havre, was created in 2017 by Vincent Ganivet on the occasion of the port's 500th anniversary, and consists of colourful shipping containers arranged in two arches. One of the arches, made up of 21 containers, tall and steep, bridges a smaller flat arch made up of 15. The shape and colour of the containers give the impression of using large building blocks.
The sculpture weighs 288 tons and reaches a height of 28.5 metres. It works without support and uses the chain line principle implemented as early as 1882 by the architect Antoni Gaudí at the Sagrada Família in Barcelona, according to which the forces and tensions of a chain are used for the support of an arch.
The name Catène de Container comes from the Latin word catena (chain) and means chain of containers. This is a double allusion, on the one hand to the principle of the inverted chain used for the construction and, on the other hand, to the supply chain, in which exist the containers and, ultimately, the harbour.
Due to its unusual shape, size and prominent location, the sculpture, inaugurated on May 27, 2017, quickly became one of Le Havre's landmarks."

The Piazza Salimbeni is a prominent square in central Siena, Region of Tuscany, Italy. It is notable for still housing the offices of one of the first banking houses in Europe, the Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena. It is surrounded clockwise starting from north by the following palaces: Palazzo Tantucci Rocca or Palazzo Salimbeni Palazzo Spannocchi The palace facades were harmonized to a neo-gothic-style during the nineteenth century by the architect Giuseppe Partini. American Red Squirrel.
Between 10 5/8 and 15 1/4 inches long. The smallest tree squirrel in its range. Rust-red to grayish red above, brightest on sides; white or grayish-white below. In winter black lines separate reddish back from whitish belly. Tail is similar to back color, but is outlined with broad black band edged with white. In summer its coat is duller. In winter has prominent ear tufts.
They are often abundant in any kind of forest: natural coniferous forests, pine plantations, mixed or hardwood forests; often around buildings.
They range throughout much of Alaska and Canada; in the continental United States south through the Rocky Mountain states and east from Iowa to north Virginia. They are also in the Alleghenies.

Why is the sky pink tonight?
When passing through the evening sky, blue light is scattered more easily because it has a smaller wavelength. Red light on the other hand has a longer wavelength and is less scattered through the clouds. Thus, red light reaches our eyes more and thus the sky looks pink.
Thank-you for all the overwhelming support and many friendships.
