This is my final project for my Concepts in Art class. We had to relate a current event to the Prometheus myth. I chose to represent the recession and the daily suffering part of the story.
I am VERY excited about Ridley Scott's upcoming Prometheus film, so I thought it would be fun to create a blu-ray cover, keeping with the style of the other Alien blu-rays. I decided to include HR Giger influence on the right and Moebius influence on the left. Besides the 4 images I captured and manipulated from from the trailer, everything else is all vector (no raster images), the main title font I had to recreate by hand as it is custom.

By Paul Manship (1885-1966)
From Lower Plaza, Rockefeller Center
The Rockefeller Center was sponsored by, and named after, John D Rockefeller Jr. (1874-1960). The development consists of 14 Art Deco buildings, designed by Raymond Mathewson Hood (1881-1934) and constructed between 1930-39, plus 4 International-Style buildings built in the 1960-70s.
The only project employed 40,000 people, and cost an estimated $250m at the time (this included the acquiring the land and demolishing some existing buildings).
Paul Manship's highly recognizable bronze gilded statue of the Greek legend of the Titan Prometheus recumbent, bringing fire to mankind, features prominently in the sunken plaza at the front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The model for Prometheus was Leonardo (Leon) Nole, and the inscription, a paraphrase from Aeschylus, on the granite wall behind, reads: "Prometheus, teacher in every art, brought the fire that hath proved to mortals a means to mighty ends."

"Megyeri Barnabás Prometheus című domborítása a Borsodi Hőerőmű Vállalat főkapujának dísze, 1966-ban helyezték ide, a művész halálának évében."
When I titled this I was thinking to charge off on some metaphorical, mythological, philosophical rambling about how some God gave mankind fire, and do some analogizing about the relationship between human observations of the universe and how they've contributed to our slow intellectual development (or lack thereof) but I'm way too tired to do that now ...
