In 1942, The Hudson Valley Courier wrote an article about Vassar's physical education program, noting, ''freshmen and sophomores are required to take a course in physical education, and although upperclassmen may forego work in this department, about 50 percent voluntarily take part in some phase of the athletic association program... Most popular sport in the winter season with the students is swimming. Among the sports rapidly gaining favor are badminton, squash and bowling.''

Wounded Warrior Project Bike tour in Israel

Soldier Ride is a program that provides cycling opportunities across the country for wounded warrior. The project cooperate with Friends of the IDF (FIDF), arrives to Israel, and gives a unique opportunity to American and Israeli wounded soldiers to ride together cross Israel.

Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a national nonprofit organization that works to honor and empower wounded soldiers, and to provide them with tangible support so that they can heal both physically and mentally.

Soldier Ride is a program that provides cycling opportunities across the country for wounded warriors. All participants suffering from a disability are provided with the adaptive equipment they need to cycle. The soldiers are able to feel active and have fun, but they are also able to show society how much they have sacrificed for their country and how brave they truly are

Four years ago the WWP and the FIDF started their collaboration, and since then, they have a yearly cycling tour in New York. The joined ride was a symbol of the support and the solidarity between the American and Israeli soldiers, fighting together, in different parts of the world, against terror.

2010 is the first time that the joined ride comes to Israel. At October 13th, 20 wounded soldiers arrived to Israel for an 11 day cycle tour across the country.

Israeli wounded soldiers will escort their American visitors, and will cycle with them.

FILE - In this March 3, 2005, file photo President George W. Bush arrives with CIA Director Porter Goss, left, to talk to reporters after he received an intelligence briefing at Central Intelligence Agency headquarters in Langley, Va., near Washington. In 2004 Goss revived a CIA plan to use the private contractor Blackwater as part of its now-abandoned secret program to kill or capture terrorists in sensitive overseas operations. Blackwater had won the government's confidence by handling security and training operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but the decision to use a private contractor yo implement this secret plan struck some former agency officials as highly unusual. ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- A former U.S. Marine has found a new way to serve his country -- by inspiring students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“I never thought I would leave California, but the opportunity provided to me to manage STEM programs for the Army and Department of Defense allows me to serve my country again in a different capacity,” said Louie Lopez, the education outreach program manager for the science, technology, engineering and mathematics program at the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. “That’s what enticed me to leave home and family in California and move to the East Coast.”
