Mentors and mentees, from around the world, met for a five day orientation at the U.S. Army Installation Command's College of Installation on Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, January 11-15, 2016. In support of the command's Line of Effort 1, the Headquarters Centralized Mentoring Program is a year-long, professional development opportunity where senior employees help their mentees grow into multi-skilled, adaptive leaders. Brighter Bites is a collaborative effort designed to improve access to healthy, affordable food and provide nutrition education. The University of Texas School of Public Health, KIPP Schools, the Houston Food Bank and Texas Children's Hospital have partnered to offer the 16-week program to third-grade children enrolled at KIPP Explore Academy and their parents. As you can see from the photos, those healthy kale smoothies are a hit!
The first Senior Care communities to earn U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s ENERGY STAR certification were honored at the 2011 Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) Conference and Expo in Orlando, FL, in April, 2011. Approximately 2,000 conference attendees gathered at this 3-day event where Clark Reed, Director of Healthcare Facilities Division for EPA's ENERGY STAR program, presented "Power Down to Power Up: ENERGY STAR Comes to Senior Living" and announced the first 32 ENERGY STAR certified senior care communities from Sunrise Senior Living and Horizon Bay Retirement Living.
“Sunrise Senior Living and Horizon Bay Retirement Communities are the first providers of senior living in the nation to have communities earn the prestigious ENERGY STAR from the EPA,” said Richard P. Grimes, president and CEO of the Assisted Living Federation of America. “ALFA applauds Sunrise, Horizon Bay and other senior living companies who plan to earn their environmental credentials by participating in ENERGY STAR program. Thank you to EPA for taking an interest in seniors housing and managing a program that will help senior living advance business excellence and environmentally friendly programs.”

The European University Cyprus Orientation Program is designed to welcome new students to the University community, facilitating the process of settling into a new and unfamiliar environment. Orientation days are organized every semester, two weeks prior to the beginning of classes. Faculty and staff are on hand to show students around campus, advise on University policies and regulations, and discuss the selection of courses.

The current Vice Director of the Deep South District of the American Rose Society, Paul will speak about selecting and growing roses in Florida. There will be a wide variety of roses on display and attendees can enter for a chance to win free roses.
