In 1942, The Hudson Valley Courier wrote an article about Vassar's physical education program, noting, ''freshmen and sophomores are required to take a course in physical education, and although upperclassmen may forego work in this department, about 50 percent voluntarily take part in some phase of the athletic association program... Most popular sport in the winter season with the students is swimming. Among the sports rapidly gaining favor are badminton, squash and bowling.''

FILE - In this March 3, 2005, file photo President George W. Bush arrives with CIA Director Porter Goss, left, to talk to reporters after he received an intelligence briefing at Central Intelligence Agency headquarters in Langley, Va., near Washington. In 2004 Goss revived a CIA plan to use the private contractor Blackwater as part of its now-abandoned secret program to kill or capture terrorists in sensitive overseas operations. Blackwater had won the government's confidence by handling security and training operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, but the decision to use a private contractor yo implement this secret plan struck some former agency officials as highly unusual. A quickly thrown together map showing ranges from the Kerbal Space Center. The "outer" range rings are not accurate as the projection would distort things. The outer rings should be more square-ish. A reasonable quick estimate, though.

In May of 2009 the Science and Human Rights Program of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) undertook a review of satellite imagery acquired of the Sheberghan area in the Jowzjan Province of northern Afghanistan. This review was done at the request of Physicians for Human Rights, who asked AAAS to provide satellite imagery analysis for their investigation of possible mass graves at Dasht-e-Leili, near Sheberghan. According to PHR, the graves had reportedly been created in 2001. Then, at some point during 2006 two large pits were dug and the fill from them taken away. Hoping to clarify the excavation date, PHR requested that AAAS research and acquire available satellite imagery of the area to determine when the two sizeable pits possibly comprising the graves might have first appeared.
Using coordinates provided by PHR, AAAS located and analyzed multiple images of the site acquired by the QuickBird, Ikonos, TopSat, and SPOT-5 satellites.
