As this was 'only' an open-to-centre meeting, riders from beyond the Southern Centre ACU specify membership of an appropriate club. Vic Eastwood is with Mortimer, but Dave Curtis - from Bicester - and Chris Horsfield - from Stratford - become members of the organising Reading Ace club. Did they join on the day?

NB [ 1 ] - future sidecar specialist John Turner is number 87 on a 250cc Ariel, no doubt built by dad Bill.

NB [ 2 ] - First race of the day has 43 entries, and they would be lined up across the middle of the top straight, not a separate start area, for a dead engine getaway.

Adverts for Kathleen (hairdressers) of Rook Street, Eric Wilson (painter and decorator) of Florist Street, Stockbridge, and Herbert R. Driver (joiner and undertaker) of Castle Mills, Becks Road.

The Electric Palace (or Picture Palace) on Cavendish Street was opened on 10th December 1910, operated by Walter Pallister. The cinema was later renamed simply The Palace Cinema. In the 1930/40s it was operated by the same independent owners of the town’s Cosy Corner Picture House. In the early 1950’s it was taken over by new owners and was renamed again as Cavendish Cinema. It was closed by 1980 and the building was demolished. The site is now the entrance to the Cavendish Retail Park.

After all the displays ended we travelled down to Longmoor for the last but one open day? A Long and brilliant day out.

I just wish I could find some of the photos I took on the day?
