Utahns Against Hunger, the Utah State Office of Education (USOE) and other community partners kicked off the 2014 Summer Food Service Program at the Salt Lake City downtown library.

Sponsors will run about 200 summer food sites throughout Utah, providing free meals to low-income children ages 18 and younger.

The program is administered at the state level by the USOE. In Utah, about 37 percent of school-age children qualify for free or reduced price meals.

This summer, the downtown public library will be one of the sites serving lunch to children through a partnership with the Salt Lake City School District and the Salt Lake Public Library.

Other community partners in Salt Lake County are: Salt Lake City Mayor’s office, Salt Lake County and Salt Lake Community Action Program and Head Start.

Summer Food sites can be located online at schools.utah.gov/cnp/Summer-Food-Service-Program/Map.aspx.
