Hello.

My name is Nevereux. Except, most likely, it isn’t.

Profoundly troubled and profoundly untroubled, I’m wearing Deadwool even when I don’t.

I’m the smartphonist who thinks that the world was born with my iPhone.

I’m looking for a world with less labels and more peace, civil rights and efforts for conservation of the natural resources. Except, most likely, it doesn’t exist.

Ppl in power told me that they’d keep us safe and there’d be no more wars with our natural enemies, whether human or non-human. Except, most likely, they lied.

I Googled and I found out that the world outside our skin is as much ourselves as the world inside. But peace can be made only by those who are peaceful, and love can be shown only by those who love. No work of love will flourish out of guilt, fear, or hollowness of heart, just as no valid plans for the future can be made by those who have no capacity for living now.

In fact, where is everybody?

This was my life. Except, most likely, it wasn’t.

Nitroglobus Gallery is having me for the 2nd time with “A Beautiful Collapse”, a new whole aesthetic and postapocalyptic collection about societal unraveling and the sharp decline of our general values. It provides a series of polaroids meant for a supreme entity to understand humankind and what led us to extinction.

There also will be a 3D artwork by Kaiju Kohime in the same spirit, called CRISP, and an opening party tomorrow, @ 12pm SLT, music selection by DJ Ferdy.

I hope to see you in the foreseeable future.

Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday, everyone.

It’s some kind of love

It’s some kind of fire

I’m already up

But you lift me higher

You know I’m not wrong

You know I’m not lyin’

We do it better

Yeah, we do it better, yeah

I don’t mind if the world spins faster

The music’s louder, the waves get stronger

I don’t mind if the world spins faster, faster, faster

Just let me take you to a better place

I’m gonna make you kiss the sky tonight

Yeah, if you let me show the way

I’m so excited to see you excited

I’ll take you to a better place

And baby you can love me on the way

We’re flyin’ up to outer space

I’m so excited to see you excited, yeah

You like the bass down low

I wanna lose control

I wanna dance all night

You like it nice and slow

Don’t want it any other way

Tell all your friends are gonna stay

When we’re together

You know that we do it better

I don’t mind if the world spins faster

The music’s louder, the waves are getting stronger

I don’t mind if the world spins faster, faster, faster, faster

Just let me take you to a better place

I’m gonna make you kiss the sky tonight

Yeah, if you let me show the way (show the way)

I’m so excited to see you excited

I like to see you lose control (ain’t nobody better, we do it better)

I know a place

Say that you’ll go with me,

Sometimes, a single photograph can pull you right into the heart of a place. You don't need a famous landmark or a sweeping panorama. Sometimes, all it takes is a snapshot of an ordinary street, bathed in that unique local light, to perfectly capture a city's essence.

That's the magic of a photo like the one pictured above – a simple, yet profoundly evocative, Lisbon street scene. It feels authentically aged, yet vibrantly alive. Lisbon doesn't hide its wrinkles; it wears them with pride. The faded paint, the worn cobblestones, the slightly crooked lines – they speak of centuries of history, of sailors and poets, Fado and revolution. Yet, this history isn't confined to museums. It lives and breathes alongside a contemporary buzz, a creative energy that you feel in the air. Love it-)))))

Profound contrasts during the sunset at the Longshou Mountains

Sequestered deep in the mountains, isolated from major roads and townships, there is profound mystery, history and culture to the whole Jenolan area and I love to visit when I can.

The famous caves and associated land cover 3,000 hectares situated in the Central Tablelands region, west of the Blue Mountains here in New South Wales.

At 340 million years old, the caves are the most ancient discovered open caves in the world. The word Jenolan is believed to be an indigenous word for 'high place', derived from the Tharawal word, 'genowlan'. Jenolan Caves are within the lands of the Burra Burra people, a clan group of the Gundugurra Nation and this is a sacred space for First Nation communities.

The peaceful Blue Lake seen here, is fed by the River Styx and Jenolan River. The intense and most beautiful colour seen from some angles comes from the refraction of light through the limestone deposits, sediment and bedrock.

There are duck-billed platypus within the vicinity, but I have not been lucky enough to see any during my visits.

The Temple of Heaven is located in southern Beijing. It was first constructed in 1420, the 18th year of the reign of Ming emperor Yongle, and was extended and renovated during the reigns of Ming emperor Jiajing and Qing emperor Qianlong. It was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would worship the god of heaven and pray for good harvest. Covering an area of 273 hectares,it is the largest architectural complex in the world for rituals to pay homage to heaven.

In 1918, The Temple of Heaven was turned into a park. After New China was founded in 1949,the central government invested large amounts of capital in the protection and maintenance of the historical and cultural sites inside the temple. In 1998, the Temple of Heaven was inscribed on the World Heritage List by the UNESCO. With its profound cultural connotations and imposing architectural styles, the Temple of Heaven is considered a reflection of the ancient civilization of the Orient.

An abandoned house sits in profound silence as an early winter snowfall swirls down from the featureless sky. A gravel road runs past the property. It is a couple miles to a wider, better-maintained gravel road, and many more miles to the nearest village and supply centre.

Imagine living here in the 1930s. I can't.

The people who settled here were tough, but that didn't matter to the forces of nature and society. In the Great Depression, a lot of farms failed; a lot of good people lost their homes. They are mostly forgotten now. Sometimes it seems to me there is a deep sadness embedded in these fields and disintegrating structures.

The Cantuña Chapel houses a small art collection from the Quito School. It’s shrouded in one of Quito’s most famous legends, that of the indigenous builder Cantuña, who supposedly sold his soul so the devil would help him complete the church on time. Just before midnight on the day of his deadline, Cantuña removed a single stone from the structure, meaning the church was never completed. He duped the devil and saved his soul.

***

From the aesthetic point of view, the Chapel of Cantuña is a small church with a single vaulted nave, with protruding ribs and lunettes. On the presbytery, which with the ship forms a single body, rests a dome with a flashlight through which the light that fills all this space is filtered. In its back is the sacristy and, when entering the ship, a small choir that is reached through a ladder placed to the right of the entrance to the Chapel. Given its structural simplicity, the ambivalence between spatial organization and decoration is evident in Cantuña, which, as in the main church, has undergone profound transformations. The altarpiece of the main altar together with the pulpit constitute the most interesting decorative element of the space. Attributed to Bernardo de Legarda, his factory would be related to the enormous prestige achieved by the Brotherhood of the Virgen de los Dolores in the second half of the 18th century. In this altarpiece, characteristically baroque, there is a clear predominance of decorative elements over images; It is complemented by the magnificent group of Calvary (of which the Virgin of Sorrows is a part) placed in its central niche, also attributed to the master. Legarda carved the columns, cloths, frieze, cornice, arch, auction and dozens of exquisite ornamental elements. The niches and shelves are full of beautiful sculptures that are also his own; He finally completed the set giving the central niche a frame of mirrors and silver.

The Cantuña Chapel also houses Caspicara's works, including one of his masterpieces: the Impression of the San Francisco Sores, a harmonious and transient group of devout sentiment, whose culmination is the admirable expression of the Saint, abyssed in pain and illumination. No less impressive is the effigy of San Pedro de Alcántara, which for a long time was mistakenly attributed to Father Carlos.

I've come to realize lately from your comments that there is a longing to see more ocean, and I've also realized that I don't photograph the ocean nearly enough! I myself, returning from my recent two-day trip, wanted to see the ocean first, even before going home. I actually feel that longing every day.

My title is taken from a Tears for Fears song called Rivers of Mercy:

If by magic, you mean the ocean

If by tragic, you mean the end

I only came across this song a couple of months ago but was immediately struck to the core by those mysterious opening words. Even without any further context - or maybe especially without any other context, I feel these two lines are quite possibly the most beautiful lyrics ever written! They seem to encapsulate a dimension of truth so deep and profound that it makes me tremble inside. I see reflected my own reactions to the sea as well as questions about the whole of humanity.

After deciding that I wanted to post an ocean photo with this title, I went out with my best lens and quickly discovered what a challenge it is to deliberately photograph "the ocean." The play of light, colors, waves is always changing. I literally said out loud to myself: "I could take a picture of the ocean every day and never get that ONE definitive photo!" And so an idea was born. It's time for a new Flickr project: 52 weeks of ocean photos!

It will be my gift to everyone with the hunger to see the ocean, and it will be my own never-ending pursuit trying to capture the magic.

Cherry blossoms (sakura) embody profound and often contrasting meanings. Primarily, they symbolize the fleeting nature of life, as their vibrant beauty peaks briefly before the petals fall and wither. This ephemeral quality also ties them to themes of both life and death: they herald spring’s renewal yet serve as a reminder of mortality.

In Japanese culture, cherry blossoms are deeply symbolic, appearing in art, literature, and film. Historically, they mirrored the short but intense lives of samurai, who adhered to bushido (a code of honor, discipline, and fearlessness). Fallen petals were likened to warriors’ sacrifices. During WWII, kamikaze pilots painted sakura on their planes to represent dying “like falling blossoms” for the emperor.

Rooted in folk beliefs, sakura were once tied to agricultural fertility. The term sakura may derive from sa (rice paddy deity) and kura (a deity’s seat). People believed mountain spirits, later revered as rice gods, dwelled in cherry trees. This led to spring pilgrimages to worship them.

The tradition of Hanami (flower viewing) originated as rituals to pray for bountiful harvests, with offerings made beneath blooming trees. Today, it is a festive spring gathering where people picnic, sing, and celebrate under sakura.

This photo was taken during my first days in Japan, coinciding with the peak of spring blooming — a serendipitous welcome to the country’s iconic season.

Looking at a stunning natural scene fills you with awe and serenity. The colors, the vastness, and the harmony of the environment create a deep sense of wonder. Your breath catches as you feel connected to something larger than yourself, a quiet reminder of life’s beauty and fragility. It’s a mix of peace, gratitude, and inspiration, often accompanied by a desire to linger in the moment, soaking in its profound, calming energy.

You always can. Profoundly changing yourself, that is. Making a totally new start, a new beginning. Dream on. Hang on to the illusion. What you are going to find is probably this: whatever new dress you are wearing, however you "reinvent" yourself, whatever new city you are living in, however much you cling to your new religion, the old ego will come through and squeeze itself to the surface. That is your prison, and it is hard to break free.

Nature teaches so many profound lessons in such a way that even the youngest child can understand! We are all part of a family -- and how wonderful that is!!! But, how equally wonderful that each and every one of us has unique talents, abilities, likes, passions, insights, and individuality. We can all learn from each other and collectively we can create amazing beauty!!!!

NOTE: Thanks so much for your many kind comments, faves, and invites. I especially thank you for your friendship! What a special joy you bring into my life each day!!!!

St Petersburg many canals are one link with Venice.the famous Italian city. But that great swathes of the historic centre, including most of the grand Imperial palaces, were built by Italian architects.

St Petersburg may never have had a large Italian community, but despite this, no other nationality has had such a profound influence on the city’s cultural and artistic heritage.

Italians are bound to feel at home in the city thanks to the huge number of buildings modelled on Italian masterpieces and built by their fellow countrymen, many of whom devoted their whole careers to developing the city. In fact, well into the 19th century, almost every major construction project in St Petersburg was entrusted to an Italian designer.

the light carves a sharp question mark on the old asphalt. he steps into it, a figure caught between the vast, consuming dark and an uncertain path ahead. his gesture is an unspoken plea, a silent weighing of invisible burdens. where the shadows end, and the journey begins anew, he stands. a solitary soul at a crossroads of time and choice, the city's indifferent hum his only witness. it is a moment of profound, quiet decision.

An Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a rugged, imposing flock guardian of ancient lineage. Protective and territorial, but also intelligent, patient, and profoundly loyal, these muscular avengers are prized as working guard dogs without equal. The Anatolian Shepherd Dog stands between 27 and 29 inches at the shoulder and can weigh as much as 150 pounds. Profusely muscled but nimble afoot, Anatolians are more than a match for the predators and harsh terrain of their homeland. Anatolians descend from some of the oldest known domestic-canine bloodlines. This lends the breed a sense of timelessness, a no-frills, untouched quality that takes us back 6,000 years to the Bronze Age. Anatolians are smart, devoted, responsive, and adaptable. They will protect their flock, livestock, children, smaller dogs, even the family cat with intensity. Anatolian owners must be strong leaders, willing and able to handle a dog as dominating and demanding as he is calm and loving.

The dog (Canis familiaris when considered a distinct species or Canis lupus familiaris when considered a subspecies of the wolf) is a domesticated carnivore of the family Canidae. It is part of the wolf-like canids, and is the most widely abundant terrestrial carnivore. The dog and the extant gray wolf are sister taxa as modern wolves are not closely related to the wolves that were first domesticated, which implies that the direct ancestor of the dog is extinct. The dog was the first species to be domesticated, and has been selectively bred over millennia for various behaviors, sensory capabilities, and physical attributes. Their long association with humans has led dogs to be uniquely attuned to human behavior and they are able to thrive on a starch-rich diet that would be inadequate for other canids. Dogs vary widely in shape, size and colors. They perform many roles for humans, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship and, more recently, aiding disabled people and therapeutic roles. This influence on human society has given them the sobriquet of man's best friend. 36470

This image offers a captivating glance at the vibrant dance of fuchsia blossoms, most likely a variety of Canna, as they reach the peak of their blooming cycle. The flowers are painted in deep, vivid shades of pink, a color so lively it seems to pulse with the rhythms of nature. Each petal boasts a soft, velvety texture and is perfectly shaped, curving gracefully toward the sun. The stamens are just visible, hinting at the plant's reproductive heart, while the surrounding foliage provides a contrasting backdrop of lush greenery. Slight blurs of similar blooms in the background suggest a bountiful garden, where these flowers stand as beacons of beauty. The overcast natural lighting amplifies the richness of the colors, making this picture a tribute to the simple, yet profound beauty that can be found in the quiet corners of the world.

The sun took a vacation today... and you know, I didn't mind a bit.

location : Kyoto’s Sagano Bamboo Forest

       Kyoto city, Kyoto prefecture,Japan

(CNN) - Kyoto's Sagano Bamboo Forest: One of the most beautiful groves on Earth -

In Japan's Sagano Bamboo Forest, on the outskirts of Kyoto, towering green stalks of the famously versatile plant sway in the wind, creaking eerily they collide and twist, leaves rustling.

The sun filters through the densely packed grove, projecting thin slashes of light onto the dozens of camera-clutching tourists shuffling down the wide trail that cuts through the middle of the forest as they awkwardly angle their shots, attempting to crop human forms out of their frames.

Long gone are the days when you'd get this place to yourself.

If you've ever clicked on a rundown of "places to see before you die" or a compilation of the most beautiful forests in the world, chances are you've seen a photo of Sagano.

Located in the gorgeous Arashiyama district of western Kyoto, the Sagano Bamboo Forest's popularity has expanded in recent years, coinciding with the growing number of Buzzfeed-esque articles that include it on superlative-heavy travel lists.

Though it's the beauty of the bamboo that brings in the masses, those distinct rustling sounds have become an attraction in their own right.

A few years ago the Ministry of Environment included the Sagano Bamboo Forest on its list of "100 Soundscapes of Japan" -- a selection of everyday noises intended to encourage locals to stop and enjoy nature's music.

For the best experience, head out early in the morning or late evening and avoid weekends completely, when Japanese day-trippers descend on the area -- especially in the fall and spring. (There's no admission fee and it's open 24/7.)

Anything Goes 2021: Circles

Mitakon Speedmaster manual lens at F8, double exposure, one daylight LED lamp from below; edited in Fujifilm's raw converter and refined in Luminar. It is difficult not to be sarcastic about the political chaos in the UK. Neither the voters of 2016, nor the Parliament, and certainly not the Government, have shown the necessary political maturity with regard to such a momentous decision as Brexit. I have been living in the UK for almost 30 years and I was aware of how class-ridden the UK society really is and that the furtive notion of 'English' identity was drifting somewhere between D-Day Normandy and the colonial seas. But what we have now is a profound and nation-wide collapse of the social and cultural consensus. It cannot be easily repaired, whatever the outcome of Brexit may be. The self-appointed Brexit Doctors in London are at each others' throat. What about the patient?

Anuncia es una de las mujeres más pequeñas de mi pueblo, yo creo que la más pequeña, pero a su vez una de las de mayor corazón.

Aquí viene de su paseo diario hasta el cementerio, donde tiene enterrados a su marido y algún hijo.

Well, how would you look at Osborne House, the private residence Victoria and Albert had built for themselves around 1850 and in Italianate style on the Isle of Wight? A place of calm where they would recover from the strenuous business of being Queen and representing the royal and quite imperial first family of what then was a world power. I find the boar, this symbol of wilderness and ferociousness (the pig, profoundly unacceptable in some traditions), quite adequate. After all, imperial rule and colonialism were brutal in essence. But then, you would perhaps expect me to say this because I am an old republican. In this matter, one can have many points of view. Fuji X100F.

As I browse through Flickr and other sites, I am at times blown away by the images I see. It can be by a majestic landscape, a subtle expression in a portrait, the frozen action of an athlete, the colors and shapes of an abstract or just the light. My heart will skip a beat, my pulse will quicken, I am moved. I am forced to stop, examine everything a bit closer, to think about how and why the photographer captured the image. It will circle back to my own work and I will try to think about whoever is viewing my images and hope they too will be moved in some way.

Yesterday I listened to a Ted Radio Hour podcast "The Meaning of Work" www.npr.org/podcasts/510298/ted-radio-hour. One of the people telling their stories was Dame Steve Shirley, an inspiring and fascinating woman. One of the things she said was "I have to make my life worth saving, and each day you spend as if it would be your last." I love this so much and it is made more meaningful when you calculate out the days of life expectancy. My 5 year old daughter and I figured out yesterday that one million hours is 114.155251 years and there are 36,524.25 days in 100 years. Some days it feels like our lives will go on forever but when you stop and acknowledge that there is a limit to our existence it can make you view your life in a very different and profound way. Start today and make your life worth saving!
